Amazing graze: Israeli farm faces closure despite innovative herding technique to prevent forest fires
Bar and Avshalom Ya'aran practice a form of goat herding that has been encouraged by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority and the Jewish National Fund. But that's not enough to keep their farm near Jerusalem running.
Every day, Bar and Avshalom Ya’aran take their herd of goats out to graze on the hillside overlooking the stunning Nahal Sorek. Afterward they return to the small farm they built in the heart of the forest, where they make cheeses from the goats’ milk.
