Fashion photo with 'mass grave' shocks Holocaust survivors

Publicist who initiated photo says he wants to warn of Iranian threat and protest Holocaust denial.

By Amiram Barkat and Ilit Mainemer

A photograph of a model standing by what appeared to be an open mass grave raised a public outcry Thursday after a Channel 10 report on it. The photograph of Slovak model Zuzana Gregorova was taken by the creative team preparing Dan Cassidi's summer collection campaign.

The publicist who initiated the photograph, Meir Kadosh, said he wanted to warn of the next holocaust, which could occur if Iran drops a nuclear bomb on Israel, and to protest Holocaust denial. At the same time, he denied using Holocaust motifs and said the huge hole in the ground stood for what could be the mass grave of Tel Aviv's complacent residents.

Kadosh said he got the idea for the story while filming Dan Cassidi's summer fashion campaign, when the 17-year-old model told him she had never heard of the Holocaust.

He said he decided to prepare an article for a local Tel Aviv magazine. The Dan Cassidi chain agreed as long as the company's name appeared in the story, but Kadosh said there was no intention to use the photographs in the advertising campaign.

Holocaust survivors' organizations called on Dan Cassidi and the advertising company Thursday to cancel what they called the "disgraceful advertisement."

"We're shocked by a campaign that uses Holocaust motifs for sales promotion," said Noah Flug, chairman of the Center of Survivor Organizations.

One of the reasons I don't care for Holocaust Revisionists / deniers and I'm not gonna speak for everyone else just myself. Not cause their facts are wrong, their methods are wrong or cause they make such grand fools of themselves. The fact is what leads them to deny the Holocaust is antisemitic and the agenda they wish to serve with their denial is neo-nazism. Either they dislike Jews or they want to apologise for the nazis. It is also very likely they are using the Holocaust as a means to cover up their guilt or as a promotional tool for fame and fortune.

Christians have a right to define what is a Christian and what is not. Just as Jews get to do the same re: a Jew. Christians define a Christian as one who believes that Jesus is Divine (ie, He is God). Yes, there are a few sects that consider themselves Christians even though they do not hold this tenant to be true, but the vast majority of major Christian religions disagree. They hold to the principle that in order to be a Christian one must believe that Jesus is Divine.

I probably should be offended, take it as an insult to my intelligence, but its so ridiculous that i can't get past the comedy factor. First of all, when a Xian talks about 'Jesus' they say he is 'God', and then go even further by stating that 'God' means any of 3 distinct personalities, including the Father, and the son. AND when a Jew talks about "Adonai" the Xian, and all most english writers, automatically change this to "God" as well, since you claim in English, basically, that "God" = "Adonai" and THEN when we see a Muslim shouting "allahuakbar" you guys say that the Muslim is talking about "God" too!! You've gotta be kidding me. I mean, if you can't see the problem with all that by now, then... WOW. YHWH is the author of the torah, and not Allah, not Shiva, not Zeus, not Thor, not ANYONE ELSE just exactly precisely like he said.

I agree that if presented without article, the picture may be shocking to some people. That's exactly why it was done this way. Edgy or offensive, it's just a picture. It was made to get your attention, and did it! I am amazed at how we have become a society that overreacts to everything.

such a comedy; vitriolic rhetoric over use of a term when the term itself has yet to be defined in the discussion. soooo funny. First of all, the term 'G-D' does not even appear in the text. It's an inaccurate and insufficient title at best. the correct term would be selected from a list containing El, Eloahi, Elohim, and Eloah among others, probably other terms as Adeni and Ha-Elyon would be on the list as well. But thats fine, don't think about it, just pull your insufficiently translated mis-defined terminology out of the air and all you guys can yell about it. Nothing on cable at the moment anyway. Some qualified research into specificity of terms will preclude a majority of controversy, but hey, thats not NEARLY as much fun, right?

Why would someone who has chosen to be an agnostic be filled with such vitriol towards a "stupid hick"? If you CHOOSE not to believe, that is your decision. One day, each man will learn the Truth. His name IS Jesus and He IS the TRUTH. The beauty is that He is God, regardless of what we as individuals choose to believe. Kinda like a pistol: when someone points a gun at you, it matters not that you don't believe in guns. When the trigger is pulled................. You know the rest of the analogy. God does not need you to believe in Him. But one day, you will wish you had believe.

Hey na, seems you are as ignorant as anyone else. Christian doctrine does acknowledge Jesus as God, along with the Father & Holy Spirit, triune. Not 2 or 3 Gods but 1 God personified in 3 entities. So Mike isn't violating his own beliefs. One belief I know I have is he can believe and say as he wishes, whether anyone else likes it or not. YOU have taken on the status of the "stupid...zealot" with the mouth-foaming barking of a rabid mutt.

"Jesus is your God too. Believe it or not. Isaiah 9:6" First of all, you're as offensive and ignorant as the idiot who had never heard of the holocaust. Second, while I'm agnostic, I do seem to recall something about there being some christian commandment saying "though shalt have no other god before me". Now, I'm pretty sure the whole zombie jesus guy is god's SON. So are you saying that jesus is a god? So there are two gods? Aren't you violating your own ignorant beliefs? Please keep your mouth shut. You make the rest of Americans look stupid. We're not all ignorant religious zealots who think everyone else has to be exactly like us. You stupid hick.

How can anyone be upset by this? The photo was taken for a magazine article that's going to discuss the possibility of a future holocaust at the hand's of a nuclear armed Iran. How can that be a problem for some people? Obviously, certain people like to think of themselves as victims so much, even when people are on their side, they attack them.

Using the victims of the Holocaust in this way is vile beyond measure. Words fail me, how are we to teach our children about the sanctity of the Holocaust and how we must all work to ensure it never occurs again. If an idiot uses the images which must be held sacrosanct and beyond reproach as a marketing ploy to sell clothes. Hopefully the Israeli legal system can prosecute this guy for Holocaust denial.
