Evacuation orders nixed for controversial East Jerusalem building

Police say they weren't informed of intent to distribute evacuation orders, despite vow from Mayor Barkat.

The Jerusalem Municipality on Monday canceled the distribution of evacuation orders for a residential building erected by nationalist Jews in the heart of an Arab neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat bowed to pressure from legal officials last Wednesday and ordered the municipality to begin preparations for the evacuation and sealing of the building known as "Beit Yonatan."

In a letter to State Prosecutor Moshe Lador, Barkat pledged to enforce the court order to evacuate the structure, though he added that he was doing so under protest.

Inspectors were meant to arrive in the neighborhood of Silwan on Monday to issue the evacuation orders, but police said that this type of activity must be coordinated with them.

"Contrary to reports, there was no coordination Monday between the Jerusalem Municipality and the district police regarding distribution of evacuation orders in Silwan," the statement from Jerusalem Police said. "Any activity of this kind must be coordinated and this one was not coordinated with any police official."

Jerusalem deputy mayor David Harari and city council member Elisha Peleg (Likud) arrived at the house on Monday in a show of support for its residents.

We can't evict the people in this building because Jerusalem is protected by the Keystone Kops..... "Any activity of this kind must be coordinated and this one was not coordinated with any police official." They weren't talkng about jackhammering the building, sunshine. They were talking only about the "distribition of evacuation orders" i.e. the delivery of flyers. Just how much "co-ordination" is needed to pick up the phone to Keystone HQ and say "I'm distributing some flyers today, can I have some cops as escort?" Man, it couldn't take more than 30 minutes to call in enough off-duty grunts. What next? How about: we were really to go - honest! - but every single one of my men called in sick today and, you know, what could I do then?

The correct spelling is "Israelis". Or are you making a pun about Israel's "lies"? That would be understandable.

Is it truth, justice and concern for those least able to help themselves, or is Israel about grabbing as much land as it can at a cost to a defenseless people? Is it not time to assess what Judism should be about rather than reacting to fears and political exploitation?

Between Stockholm and Tehran, Israel of today is much closer to Tehran. From birth to death, from circumcision to funeral, from the establishment of the state to the establishment of the last of the illegal settlements and outposts in the West Bank - Israel is operating in the shadow of the commandments of religion. Israelis should be honest with themselves and admit it already: The country is too religious and its going to be like Saudi Arabia

Well, thank you, Mr. Lary. I'm sure you felt better after getting all that off your chest. This guy Havilio must be amazingly powerful, and I can sympathise with your feeling really small and insignificant when you see someone with such massive wealth and power, with millions of well-armed people at his command. At some point you will doubtless explain to us what the connection is with the story.

The parks and green area of Silwan was marked out legally planned and codified many years ago. Despite that proper process squatters illegally built on land set aside for public usage. Those illegal structures need and must be torn down and the green belt, parks and archeological parks developed;they benefit all residents of the city, tourism , have economic, recreational and educational value for all. Odd some blatantly ignore basic fact of illegality of private taking of public land. These lands in the public domain will make Jerusalem a more beautiful city as well as for better quality of living environment

Swiss gold coins made from dental gold -documented clearly as such due to its mercury content which is a dental gold alloy - is not silly, but joyously used for fun and other silliness in Switzerland. How are your minarets growing ?

Havilio to blame for troubles in Yemenite Village -Shiloach

On Havilio's head will be the eviction of Jews from Kfar HaTeimanim. On Havilio's head will be the demolition of tens of illegally built Arab homes. On Havilio's head will be the riots, demonstrations and expected Arab violence in the area. Havilio's pride and leftist ideology to rid parts of Jerusalem of Jews is driving all of us to a tragedy. We have "elected" officials to run the city and not some 'non-elected' legal advisor with an agenda of division and discrimination. Even Meretz Margalit stands with Mayor Barkat against Havilio. Havilio is the only one who won't get off his high horse or climb down the tree that he planted. Wow to all of us because of Havilio. Maybe the time has come for Havilio to get the message and go out to pasture !!!
