Egypt recalls ambassador to Algeria over soccer game

Egypt loses World Cup qualifying match to Algeria, sparking violence among fans.

Egypt has recalled its ambassador to Algeria for consultations as part of a growing diplomatic row caused by a bitter soccer rivalry between the two Arab nations.

The Egyptian foreign ministry also summoned Algeria's ambassador in Cairo to express to him its extreme dismay over attacks on Egyptian fans in the Sudanese capital Khartoum after a soccer match between the two nations there.

Egypt also complained Thursday about attacks on Egyptian interests in Algeria following a Saturday World Cup qualifying game in Cairo that Egypt won 2-0.

The 2-0 result left Egypt and Algeria level on points and with the same number of goals scored and conceded. The two played a make-or-break match in Khartoum Wednesday that Algeria won 1-0 to advance to the 2010 World Cup.

Egypt's ambassador to Sudan said Thursday that "the Egyptian fans were attacked in the streets. President [Hosni] Mubarak called the Sudanese president and asked him to take action to prevent the deterioration of the delicate situation," Channel 10 reported.

The Algerian government, for its part, issued a statement saying that it was the Algerian fans who were attacked by an angry Egyptian mob, and calling on the international football association to ban the Egyptian team for two years.

Channel 10 further reported that 5 to 10 Algerians have been hurt in street fights on Thursday.

I'm really surprised that Egyptian authorities speak about an attack against Egyptian supporters in Sudan without bringing any evidence. On the other side you can find many videos that show attacks against Algerian supporters and The Algerian football team in Cairo. Here are some videos (some of them were shot by a French TV) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuS2hxWglYk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCAhIicb7W4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5cuHvDNrYc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLiF1tMVYYk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osqm4dc96Cg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKy3Ut7OpSI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-wGncIfENo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw6if6qAGlc That was just a football match, get over it. For once I'm happy that Algerian authorities did nothing and remained silent about this foolishness. Arab people (including Algerian people)grow up and fight for a better life instead of letting your leaders manipulating you

BTW Egyptian Police investigation discovered APS football team accusation against Egyptian fans in Cairo was fause. There were no glass inside APS bus. Instead there was glass outside bus which means Algerians threw rocks at Egyptian fans & fausely accused EGY fans. Then Algerians win the match in Sudan & chase Egyptian fans in Khartoom streets with Knifes. I'm disappointed in Algerians. Why all this hatred from Algerians to Egyptians? This is just a football match. Not war for god sake!

Tarek, Egyptians started it when they stoned the bus with Algerians on it. They injured three players and have the videos to prove it. Man up Tarek and admit when you are wrong. Stop playing the victim all the time. The Algerians are also wrong for attacking the Egyptians in Algeria. But face the truth, Egypt started it.

Unfortunately Egypt thought it is fair&normal football game but Algerians play as well done terrorist way. Part one they poisoned our team in the first game in Algeria 2 months ago but Egypt didn't complain as if we are brothers!!!!! Part two they made a FAKE scenario through pretending their bus is hit in Cairo and three players are hurt which is not true . More then this they made allot of burning strikes inside Europe especially in France . Part three they run a very organized media campaign by acting as if there is algerian fans killed in Egypt and keep saying this in all media channels especially El Jezerah . They put HIGH pressure on the FIFA to let them in their side and fell bad for them . Part three they sent to Sudan where the final game was there on 18/11 they sent Military air plane full with algerians street fighter's armed with knifes and their flags with heavy wooden arm and they used all of this to the Egyptian before and after the game and FIFA say NOTHING Because
