Egypt minister says 'world's Jews' cost him top UNESCO post

Cairo's culture minister, Farouk Hosny, lost out to a Bulgarian diplomat in race to lead UN agency.

Egypt's culture minister says a Western conspiracy "cooked up in New York" prevented him from becoming the next head of the UN's agency for culture and education.

Farouk Hosny says "European countries and the world's Jews" wanted him to lose.

He spoke to reporters at the Cairo airport Wednesday upon his return from Paris.

A Bulgarian diplomat on Tuesday became the first woman to lead UNESCO, beating out Hosny in a close race.

For months, Hosny had been considered the favorite, but critics raised Egypt's record of cultural censorship and highlighted the minister's threat last year to burn Israeli books - a comment he later apologized for.

Irina Bokova's candidacy took off late in the race as delegates sought a consensus figure.

Isn't it pathetic that the Egyptian Culture Minister cannot admit that his own past caught up to him. As the old adage goes, what goes around, comes around. Farouk Hosny lost face and reverts to the time honored tradition of blaming it on the world's Jews. Somehow, I'm responsible for his failure. I'm sick of this anti-Semitism and lack of accountability by our Arab brothers. Do they not have any integrity or honor? It comes across like sour grapes, the whining loser. Thank goodness people chose someone who will not resort epithets and vulgar racism. Hosny must be shunned.

I may as well confess. I run the UN from my sweets shop in Broadway. I never thought I would be found out, but what can I do. Like Saddam Hussein's 99% election win and Ahmidinerjad's [ O.K. so I can't spell] recent re-election this too was fixed. Really he only got one vote, but we gave him a few more to avoid embarrassment.

Give him the portfolio for sportsmanship! In which 'normal' country could a loser of an election blame it on Jewish control? And Arabs think we Jews are parnoid !

    So Jews control the UN?

Is this a conspiracy theory or what? A good plot for a novel? This guy is showing his true colours. So the UN is controlled by NY Jews? I am glad at least there has been a happy ending.

The secret Jewish plan to topple Farouk Hosny become head of UNESCO was spelled out completely in each of the Israeli books he was prepared to burn.

But of course the fact that he declared that he would burn books himself has nothing to do with not getting the highest position in the world organization for CULTURE.

Think Savanarola in 15th century Florence or Hitler (yimach sh'mo vezichro). Let Hosny rant all he wants, since it only proves just how dangerous he could have been. For a change, the UN did something right.

We had nothing better to do today in our march for world domination, so we figured lets eliminate this paranoid, anti-semitic loser. I figured I'd beat the mob who will make this accusation later on. :))

Based on his comments it is clear why he was not selected. It is his intolerance and propensity to censor that produced the result. I think a little critical self examination is in order. Much easier though to blame the "world's jews" and some sort of grand conspiracy - as if the "world's jews" can control or even influence anything at the UN.

If people were looking for a reason Hosny was truly unsuited, he just supplied it. Blaming international Jewry is a classic excuse, only the members of the voting body were representatives of the broader community and knew Hosny's severe bias and intellectual limitations for the post. This time the UN got it right.

Hosny who? Well, I didn't even known that this "minister" was a candidate for the UNESCO position. But, if as a Jew I had such power to make him loose, then I am glad I did. It would have been interesting to have a censor and book burner as head of a cultural and educational organization that serves the world regardless of background, religion, nationality, etc. Please, do not be ridiculous!

It is very good signal that anti-Semitism is not only condemned theoretically, but has actually consequences at the UN too.

As the "minister of culture", he can get his revenge by publishing an extended new hardcover edition of the Protocols, a best seller in Egypt.
