Dozens of leftists, settlers arrested in fresh West Bank unrest
Israel Police make arrests at three separate incidents across the West Bank over the weekend.
By Chaim Levinson Tags: Israel news West Bank Palestinians Israel settlersThe Israel Police arrested dozens of people, including settlers, left-wing activists and Palestinians, during three separate incidents across the West Bank over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, left-wing activists traveled to the illegal outpost of Mitzpe Asael, in the south Hebron Hills, in order to protest what they called "the settler takeover of private Palestinian land."
A pro-settler human rights group accused police of not stopping the leftists, claiming that the Palestinians trespassed on Jewish land. A police force arrested five leftists and three Palestinians at the site, all of whom were taken away for questioning.
During the second incident, 40 right-wing activists rallied at the outpost of Reches Sela, outside Nablus, to call for the continuation of Jewish settlement at the site. According to the rightists, 30 Palestinians from a nearby village subsequently approached the group and began to throw stones at them.
"An Israel Defense Forces and Border Police force took [the settlers] down from the hill, while using extreme violence instead of dealing with the Palestinian rioters," one of the rightists said.
The army, however, said the rightists actually began the clash by hurling rocks at the Palestinians, after which troops had to intercede. The IDF added that the rightists had violated an order, which they had been shown, listing the area as a closed military zone.
Three settlers were arrested and two Palestinians were wounded in the incident.
In a further incident, police arrested three left-wing activists in the West Bank city of Hebron on Friday night, after they attempted to erect an "outpost." They did this in order to protest "the powerlessness of the law-enforcement authorities to deal with the outpost of Hazon David," one said, referring to a site on the outskirts of Hebron.
The activists erected the outpost in agreement with the Palestinian landowner who owned the property; nonetheless, police later declared the site a closed military zone and arrested the activists. They were subsequently released.

knows you cannot sustain a situation where all those people are under occupation. israel has a homeland, now stay in it and get out of the west bank. these settlers are ruing any chance of an eventual two state solution. unless israel wants anothe few decades of this madness they have to learn how to reel in their own, not keep promoting expansion at the expense of peace. wake up israel! i support you becoming a normal part of the global society respecting human rights and the great jewish tradition of social justice.
being a rightist I guess you would have fought on the side of the Kings and kept us all serfs in our rightful position. Maybe you could bring back the good old days of torture on the rack and death sentences like being hanged, drawn and quartered..... IF DISAGREEING WITH YOU MAKES ONE LEFT THEN CALL ME A PROUD LEFTIST! ...................PEACE EVER?
and using God's name in vain.
They are violent trouble makers always fighting on Muslim side using every pretext to attack and demonize Israel and the West. Lefties are not interested in peace between Palestinians and Israel, all they want and look for is a confrontation. The peace can come with Obama's help and negotiation.Never with lefties.
The irony that the police can't seem to shut down outposts set up without the permission of the landowner, but had no problem arresting those setting up on with said permission seems lost on many people.
usa, try to put this on the E-forum of an Arabic newspaper... and wait a long, long, time before your comment is published.
Drove them to Judea. Then threw rocks at them. That's the story, eh lefties?
... time to move out of there and leave the Pals in peace... we have caused them enough suffering already, at the expense of every settler whim...
You need to read the Article again. The violence was caused by the right wing, not the left. The Settlers will bring Israel down. call me a fool, call me a "Goy" and tell me Arabs are not human beings deserving of a decent life but you fail to see what's in front of you. G-d won't help you, he's too busy making new planets to worry about who's wearing tzitzis and who's not.How many of the Settlers speak with an American or Eastern European accent I ask you? BTW I come here as a Jew,like many of the millions of Jews both in Israel and in the Diaspora who are being torn in two by Israel's Policy of Expansion.
I can't even begin to imagine putting up with all of this BS from fanatical settler Jews (armed to the teeth, nontheless).
I take pride in what you call "leftists". These are critical Israeli citizens, opponents of the current government, who seek hand-shaking peace, cooperation and compromise with the Palestinians. They know that Israel is not all good, and Palestine is not all evil. We need to learn to respect each other in terms of nationality, religion, culture and language. There is a lot in common and a lot to learn from each other, but not by means of occupation and ruling over a majority which is not Jewish. I am therefore in full accordance with the "Leftists"
Throw the book at them. They are going to land that they claim isn't theirs and causing violence.
