The Israel Defense Forces on Monday released footage of its naval commandos storming a Turkish-flagged ship carrying international activists carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

At least nine of the activists were killed and several more wounded in the clashes that broke out after the troops intercepted the ship just after 4 A.M. Eight Israel Defense Forces troops were wounded as well, two of them seriously.

The troops said they were forced to open fire after the activists attacked them as they boarded the ship. Israel has expressed regret over the loss of life, but defended the troops' actions.
