UN seeks to clearly mark Israel-Lebanon border, after deadly clash
Border clash earlier this month erupted when Israeli soldiers pruned a tree both Lebanon and Israel claimed was on their side of the border.
By The Associated Press Tags: Israel news Lebanon UNThe United Nations peacekeeping force in south Lebanon says it wants to clearly mark the boundary between Israel and Lebanon after a border dispute led to deadly violence earlier this month.
UNIFIL force commander Maj. Gen. Alberto Asarta Cuevas said Thursday he met with representatives of the Lebanese and Israeli armies to discuss the UN-drawn Blue Line boundary.
An exchange of fire between Lebanese and Israeli troops on Aug. 3 killed an Israeli officer, two Lebanese soldiers and a journalist. The violence broke out after Israel tried to cut down a tree that both sides claimed was on their side of the border. The UN later established it was in Israel.
The Blue Line is not marked clearly. A fence Israel erected to separate the countries does not always match the official boundary.

Will the UN include Shebaa farms (Har Dov) in Lebanon?
and will stay that way, like it or NOT !!!
and there is still that area of Lebanon that Israel refuses to withdraw from, using the fig leaf of an old competing claim by the Syrians, that has been effectively (though not definitively) dropped by Syria as its excuse.
The UN doesn't find the headshot fired by the Lebanese army to be problematic at all?
The UN was informed of the exact location. The UN and UNIFIL should be aware of where the fence is in relation to the border. With that advance notice, the UN/UNIFIL should have informed Lebanon, and they admit that they did. Demarcating a border is crap, the UN messed up, had soldiers on the scene and did not want to take responsibility in either preventing it or blaming Lebanon afterwards, instead claiming the border area is not clear.
bein a smarty and using a crane that stretches across the border
(and we all know that Israel's not very good at building fences along its "border.")
Ask all US Presidents excluding Obama.
Next time u will be facing Hezbollah if ur stinky feet will step on our land ... the era of 70's and 80's has finished with no return .. free free Palestine!
Palestine should be none of your business. You Lebanese have no claim to the lands of Palestine, not to the Jewish part that we proudly call Israel, and not to the Palestinian territories that may be a new Palestinian State some day. Look at yourselves and come clean of your own mess.
Do you think Jahiliyyah(non Muslims) have a right to land ownership on Earth?
all land up to the litani river for "greater israel". FYI lebanon is mostly a christian country.
In the 80's militants in Lebanon didn't have to sleep in bunkers.
it was murder. if you are looking for trouble and hisbollah stops hiding you will get it. you will whine and cry before the world as you did before when you murdered IDF troops in 2006 and ghoulishly kept the bodies. Lebanon is now a terrorist state.
