U.S., EU to present Mideast peace plan in last push to prevent Palestinian UN bid
Mideast Quartet to hold summit in Washington on July 11 and present new international peace plan as alternative to the Palestinian move.
By Barak Ravid Tags: Palestinian state Middle East peaceIn a last-minute effort to stop the Palestinians from seeking unilateral recognition at the United Nations in September, the Mideast Quartet is planning to present a new international peace plan at a summit in Washington on July 11, senior Israeli and European officials said Tuesday.
The Quartet's envoys - representing the United States, the European Union, the United Nations, and Russia – will be mapping out a peace plan based on U.S. President Barack Obama's Mideast speech on May 19, which is supposed to present an alternative to the Palestinian move at the UN.

The summit will be taking place at a very critical time – only four days before the appointed date that the Palestinians set to officially appeal to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and to send him Palestine's request for full membership at the UN.
The Palestinians must appeal to the UN chief on July 15 if they wish to have sufficient time to suggest the subject for a vote during the UN General Assembly session in mid-September.
The Quartet summit will convene following heavy pressure on the U.S. government by the EU, in particular by Germany, France, and Britain, to present an international peace plan.
Due to European pressure, the U.S. agreed to host the summit, but the Obama administration is still trying to stop the Palestinian move by other means.
U.S. envoys Dennis Ross and David Hale conducted two rounds of talks in recent weeks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in an effort to draw up a formula for a compromise which will be used to invite both sides to engage in direct negotiations in the United States.

Right before September. How convenient!
Heaven forbid an official international consensus on the solution to the Palestinian Question.... Israel only wants to have long, drawn out, fake negotiations that lead nowhere, and nothing else. The US is anxious to avoid being forced to veto any move at the UN that leads to an international consensus. The US would rather not veto, but they are forced to by the Jewish Lobby, which only cares about israeli interests. If the "plan" is very clear, fair, specifies borders...great....if it is another Bush style roadmap to nowhere, forget about it.
wait & see. (U.S. Europe to present peace plan) Didn't we hear that before ?)
The world should become aware that the US is biased and hypocrite in whatever has to do with this conflict. US will pay the bill next time it wants to pass some resolution at the security council.
ENOUGH WITH THIS USELESS QUARTET PLANS, STEARING WATER WILL NOT CONVERT IT TO WINE.

stop israeli plots
the only rational course of events is negotiation. declaring a state that is in limbo is cuckoo. the problems are hard, and both sides will have to comprimise with their rigid ideals, but if the US can be close to Japan and Germany after a murderous war, the cousin semites can find a way. worst stumbling block is Hamas and Shalitts imprisonment. hope the US and Europe succeed and bibi and abbas agree to start talking.
makes no sense..
The U.S absolutely despises the Palestinians and Europe, lacking any backbone, sheepishly follows suit. It's all smoke and mirrors, there will never be peace. Mark my words, this is just another vengeful attempt by the dishonest broker (the U.S) to scupper the Palestinian's appeal to the General Assembly. America and the E.U's foreign policy, pertaining to the Arab-Israeli conflict, is dictated by what Israel tells them to do.

Israel will always choose settlement expansion over peace. Unless this new peace plan will be forced upon Israel somehow, then it will be as useless as all the previous peace plans. We don't need more plans. All we need is the will to make peace. Israel will never have the will as long as Israel profits by avoiding peace.
But Obama and the EU doesn't know is that one should never spit into the wind.
Israel is a problem for the mideast, the EU and America. Their solution is to avoid rocking the boat long ehough to pass the problem on to the next generation. This will work for a while. These people know that water runs downhill, but they think it will never reach bottom. Actually, it will reach bottom. It is only a matter of time.
to claim what is legally theirs. it is crazy. do not stop the machine no matter what. i am curious to see what they will do.they are trying way too much to stop justice from being served. they never worked so much to "sort out" the issue before. what a disgraceful bunch.
No more phony talks while settlements expand and refugees suffer
It seems that the US is more concerned about the PA move more than Israel itself.
The possibility of a Palestinian state has the Israeli government in a panic. For Israel, a Palestinian state means a helt to settlement construction and to greater Israel. It means that Israel will have defined borders. Israel is desperate to avoid this. Obama is falling all over himself to do Israel's bidding. Anyone who thought that America was a fair proker for mideast peace is learning some harsh facts. Israel wants expansion, not peace. America wants whatever Israel wants, although they do their best to hide it. Obama already cast a vote at the UN in favor of settlements. He doesn't want to cast a vote against a Palestiian state the same year. Obama will turn out the be the most pro-settlement president ever. Who woulda thought?
Unlike their previous efforts, this plan is not a plan to fake peace. It is a plan to preempt peace. Peace is a condition made between two nations. Once the Palestinians have their state, they can negotiate on equal terms with Israel. The plan to preempt a Palestinian state is a vote for the status quo of fake peace and expanding settlements.
Far better that the Palestinians start off with a state and then work on peace.
Israel should not submit to their blackmail.
A fourth grade response. Think its a bit more complex than that.
