PM Netanyahu is almost surely right; there's a key and if he could just find it, he might be able to make this over. But for the first time, I'm not absolutely sure. The dispute is really about disrespect that Turkey experienced from Israel's actions. That doesn't mean there was always intent. But there was some. It's being fought through the Mavi Marmara narrative, which isn't a bad one, because that situation was a mess and the implications of the facts were always unclear. So there's wiggle room. But it is hard to argue PM Erdogan has not stepped with two feet over the disrespect line himself. So Turkey's moral entitlement has pretty much evaporated. In fact, this is absurd. Does anyone doubt Israel "is sorry." Well, sorry it's having this problem, but surely by now sorry about the deaths, too. Netanyahu's actions are way beyond what's needed to communicate that. Another fair question under the circumstances: Would Turkey ever think anything was enough? If not, watching Israel twist is purely sadistic. That's not Turkey. It's too easy to say, "Erdogan is intransigent," because he actually wouldn't be backing down. How frustrating!!

What sort of mediation can be brought between turkey and israel when turkey is occupying north cyprus? Cyprus wants both the british and the turkish army to go out of cyprus. They have oil fields and are closer to israel. So if england is really interested in peace it should help cyprus and israel by throwing out the turkish army from cyprus. It should also drive out china from spratly islands.

America has already given Turkey four Predator drones. The beach resorts in southern Turkey are doing great business with Europeans (and some Jews). Israel has already tried to ger the American congress to act against Turkey. Not only did the congress not act, they did not even make a peep. This is because they know what Israel apparently does not know. If you burn your bridges with Turkey it is not so easy to rebuild them.

Actually, counting from the first rumblings, the rift started more than five years ago. Something fundamental must be at play. You can't solve that with benign diplomacy and a quaint formula of apology. And what is that bit about improvement in relationship helping to stabilize the region? Sounds ominous.
