Turkey joins international criticism of Israeli construction in Jerusalem
Turkish FM calls Gilo construction plans 'a flagrant violation of international law'; says settlement building justifies Palestinian UN statehood bid.
By Haaretz and News Agencies Tags: Jerusalem East Jerusalem Israel settlements Israel Turkey Palestinian state Benjamin NetanyahuTurkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Thursday sharply criticized Israel's plans to construct 1,100 new homes in the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem, calling those plans "a flagrant violation of international law", Army Radio reported.
Gilo is located on land annexed by Israel after it took control of East Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War.

"The plan raises doubt about Israel's sincerity and true intention to solve the conflict," Davutoglu said.
Davutoglu added that continued settlement construction proved that the Palestinian attempt to gain United Nations recognition of statehood was both justified and timely.
The United States, Europe and Arab states have said that the announcement of new construction in Gilo would complicate efforts to renew peace talks and defuse the crisis over the Palestinian UN statehood bid.
Britain and the European Union called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reverse the decision, and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said new settlement building would be "counter-productive."
On Wednesday, Netanyahu rejected criticism of the planned construction plans.
"Gilo is not a settlement nor an outpost. It is a neighborhood in the very heart of Jerusalem about five minutes from the center of town," Netanyahu's spokesman Mark Regev said.
In every peace plan on the table in the past 18 years Gilo "stays part of Jerusalem and therefore this planning decision in no way contradicts" the current Israel government's desire for peace based on two states for the two peoples, Regev added.

a neighborhood of Jerusalem of some 50,000 Israelis, clean, neat and beautiful, overlooking Betlehem . In the past there was terror coming from Betlehem , but now it is quiet and peacefull. The addition of 1100 units will increase the population by about 10% ,- nothing dramatic......
Turkey on this issue is extremely justified.Because; As usual, Israel is violating international law.U.S,EU and UN in spite of all the opposition continues to build illegal settlements. At the same time,Netanyahu's speech shows that the contrast in UN.Israel is an indication of being hypocritical.
She knows that criticism of Russia would be brushed aside and Turkey would suffer. .
Regev is the kind of mythomaniac of the Hasbarah department that only Netanyahu could compete with. I suggest any person unfamiliar with Jerusalem open GoogleEarth, Jerusalem. The fact is Gilo is the furthermost urban satellite incorporated in the municipal limits of the city, isolated by stretch of wastelands and Palestinian villages. To be sure, the municipal boundaries were extended to incorporate this outpost. So Regev, ask your political geography challenged colleagues from American Congress to swallow that kind of cynically overt fabrication.
There are no villages between Gilo and Jerusalem. Your stretch of wasteland might be a couple square kms of undeveloped land
that Netanyahu cites as the basis for further illegalities, issues discussed in previous negotiations. So, does merely discusing them gives legitimacy to them? I've no doubt Right of Return, Green Line and East Jeruslem were also hotly discussed issues by the Pals. for the last 18 yrs as well but applying Net logic, they now are "facts".
act one enter man with thick moldavian accent uncle sam and the goyim always complaining, definately anti semitism, we have created a nice beach/ seaside resort for the pals in gaza, and made it totally secure in return for this worthless land oy veh!!
Maybe the UN need to review the case
check the history of cyprus.
Which half are they talking about. Oh I get it no half just Jerusalem, all Israel.
Whether or not they realize it, the present Israeli administration is running a great PR Campaign for Palestinian statehood. Every new home built (or approved), every Palestinian child killed or maimed by a tear gas canister, every olive grove burned, and each mosque destroyed is a PR coup for the Palestinian cause. The Palestinians don't need to take any action against Israel, as its administration is effectively seeking ruin from within. Approve 1000 homes or 5000 homes and once again demonstrate to the world that you are a greedy child who wants to "hog all of the candies in the bowl." Don't cry when you get yanked by your ear and bent over for that long-deserved arse-paddling, as you do know it is coming.
is this israeli government and jews who support it. no more comment is necessary anymore.
there are major antisemites in the west.chris patten now at the bbc and the financial times in london are not the least of our enemies.
I like to go there and have a L'chaim with my friends.
they have unemployment stagnation their banks are demolished but gilo is important for them
let us increase the numbers in judea by 50% and there would be no more talk from the clintons of this world.
I think it just confirms what everyone already knew - Israel has no interest in peace.
Turkey should mind it's own business and concern itself with Cyprus and ending their illegal occupation there.
that their land is not to be trifiled with at the will of foreigners.we will make sure all our land will have jewish towns and jewish homess. clinton obama and the rest can scream till they have exhausted themselves
International isolation is increasing day by day. I hope this coalition dissolves and israeli people call for an election.
"All hope abandon ye who enter here"
Additional urban land-theft at Gilo, davka at this sensitive time, should be more than sufficient reason to earn Israel a strong UN reprimand... difficult to understand why Obama does not voice a clear reprimand...
Little things please little minds. My advice to Ahmet Davutoglu If you don't like the heat get out of the kitchen.
Are these turks living on a different planet? their transgressions are such that any association of the words 'turkey' and 'international law' can only be embarrassing for the proponent. One would expect that the turks would simply shut up so as not to attract attention to their dismal record.
One does'nt negate the other
This is the same Turkey who saved tenths of Jews from the hands of Nazis in the Second World War
Must mean treaties Israeli governments signed in the past, like Geneva IV.
Turkey should, instead of criticizing Israel for contined construction in the occupied territories, vehemently argue and request the UN security council to force israel to accept all palestinians, including those living in different countries as refugees as Israel's first class citizens. There is no territory left for palestine to become an independant state. The only and just solution is one state solution. Bring back the refugees to Israel.
We get it. The enemies of Israel are attempting to turn Israel into a ghetto and box us in. An example of this is the malicious outcry regarding a Jerusalem neighborhood called Gilo. Next they will be saying we cannot pave certain streets in Tel Aviv and Haifa.
All states are "boxed" in as you put it, the confines of the box being the borders. But of course Israel has an aversion to borders doesn't it? In fact Israel is the only internationally recognised state that doesn’t have defined borders. Poor poor Israel, persecuted by the whole world! Give it up sunshine it's worn thin and you sound pathetic.
Too many around the world get into some kind of hysterical obsession, wild hypocrisy and political fashion when it comes to apartments in an area that is a natural part of Jerusalem. If the PA leaders want peace, then they should negotiate with us about, for example, the borders. But as long as the very same PA leaders are trying to circumvent us, then we should build in Jerusalem and tell the world to calm down.
Thats why it is important to force the Palestinians and Israeli to talk. As long as they don't talk it has to be forbidden to do trade with both groups and stop all international banktransactions untill the problem is solved.
And all those subsequent wars, and who won them, are irrelevant, as the right of conquest was abolished BEFORE Israel gained its independence. Therefore the borders of Israel are the once it's had from the start, with no changes. Simple as that.
San remo conference of League of Nations give legitimacy to Usraeli claims over disputed territory
... of the Romans allegedly expelling the Jews? Of the Inquisition expelling the Jews from Spain? etc etc... Dung happens, so stay put with it and go reform along these lines all the centuries-old Jewish nationalist narrative.
Of what happens to any of you, honestly. But, stupid rhetoric annoys me to a degree. Jews claim Jerusalem on ancestral heritage basis dating hundreds if not thousands years ago, but they can say to others that they should accept the dynamic of history!!
Constantinopolis becoming Istanbul, Anatolia becoming homeland for Turks coming from Asia, North Cyprus becomes little Turkish state. So if you have rights on these lands because you waged war to get it, so did Israel won the land by war. Mentioning the heritage to the land is just the make up.
if you adopt that point of view, then I take it that you would have no objection if Isarel is taken away from you again by way of war?
No friends that I know of.
ANY MORE ENEMIES WITH FRIENDS LIKE ISRAEL
Build homes/settlements for Jews, Demolish homes of Arabs. This is Israel's policy. This how apartheid works!
