December 7, 1962: Imad Mughniyeh is born in a Shiite village in southern Lebanon.

April 1983: Involved in a car bombing in the American embassy in Beirut. 63 people are killed.

October 1983: Mughniyeh suspected to be the mastermind behind the attack on the U.S. Marine’s and French military barracks in Beirut that killed 241 Americans and 58 French troops.

June 1985: Involved in the hijacking of a TWA flight on its way from Rome to Athens, leaving one U.S. Navy commander dead.

1980s: Mughniyeh involved in kidnapping, torture and execution of Westerners residing in Lebanon.

February 1992: The Israel Defense Forces kill Hezbollah’s Secretary General Abbas Masawi. Mughniyeh begins organizing underground terror cells across the world.

March 1992: Mughniyeh said to be mastermind behind bombing in the Israeli embassy in Argentina which killed 29 people.

July 1994: Suicide bombing in the Buenos Aires Community Center kills 85 people; Mughniyeh said to be behind attack.

October 2000: Involved in the kidnapping of three IDF soldiers in the northern part of Israel, as well as the kidnapping of Israeli businessman Elhanan Tenenbaum.

October 2001: The FBI lists Mughniyeh on its “Wanted List,” putting a $5 million price on his head.

March 2002: Involved in the infiltration of Hezbollah militants into Kibbutz Metzuva, which left six Israelis dead.

July 2006: Mughniyeh behind the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers, Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, on the Israeli border with Lebanon.

February 12, 2008: Mughniyeh assassinated in a car bomb explosion in the Kfar Suseh neighborhood of Damascus. Israeli embassies put on high alert.

January 2010: Hezbollah involved in attack on Israeli convoy in Jordan in attempt to avenge Mughniyeh’s death.

February 2011: Israeli embassies throughout world receive several suspected terror threats that coincide with the third anniversary of Mughniyah's death. The threat is believed to be directed at embassies in Africa, Southeast Asia and Caucasus.

January 13, 2011: Thai authorities arrest Hezbollah affiliate after the U.S. embassy warns of a possible attack in Bangkok, Thailand.

January 23, 2011: Three men detained after planning to attack two Israelis employed by a Jewish school in Baku, Azerbaijan.
