Thousands of Israelis turned out at the Givat Shaul cemetery in Jerusalem on Sunday for the funerals of five members of the same family killed Friday night in a brutal attack in their home at the West Bank settlement of Itamar.

The Fogel family - father Udi, 37, mother Ruth, 36, 10-year-old Yoav, four-year-old Elad, and three-month-old Hadas - were all stabbed to death in their home. Two other children in the house at the time, were not hurt in the attack.

The family's 12-year-old daughter, who was at a youth group event, returned home at approximately midnight but could not gain access to the house. With the help of a neighbor, they managed to open the door and discovered the bodies of the five.

Vice Premier and Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Yaalon spoke during the funeral, saying the Itamar terror attack highlights an existential threat to Israel.

"This murder reminds everyone that the struggle and conflict is not about Israel's borders or about independence of a repressed nation but a struggle for our existence. Therefore, we cannot continue speaking about security while the essence is neglected – the essence which is Israel's right to its land," said Yaalon.

"Whoever gives up this right won't have security either. In this difficult hour we must rise from the rubble and do the most natural thing – continue building and developing Israel," Yaalon continued.

Motti Fogel, brother of Udi Fogel, eulogized his younger brother but warned that his death cannot be used as a tool in a national struggle.

"All of the slogans we hear are trying to efface the simple fact that you're dead, and nothing can efface that. This funeral has to be a private affair," Fogel said, adding: "A man dies to himself, to his children. Udi, you are no a national event. You're horrible death mustn't make your life into a tool."

"Udi, my young brother, you made me wake up today at 6:15 in the morning, and you know how hard that is for me. Everything I could say would be a cliché. If I could, I'd chase out everyone who came here and whisper to you, 'Udi, let's go play soccer.'"

Tzila, Udi's mother, also addressed the funeral crowd, saying: "We shall try to be strong, to strengthen the children and each other."

"They are martyrs murdered by vicious animals. We shall neither forger or forgive. Another victim and another victim, and everyone continues with their daily lives," Fogel said, adding: "When will the people rise up and tell the government: 'enough'? When will repay our enemies?"

Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger also spoke during the funeral saying, "These murderers did not succeed in breaking us, they succeeded in uniting us. Today there is not left or right, there is no person that can remain apathetic."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, visiting relatives of the victims of the Itamar terror attack following the funeral, said security forces were doing their utmost to locate the perpetrator's of Friday's attacks, referring to the cabinet's decision to approve new West Bank homes by saying: "They shoot, and we build."

"They say Eretz Yisrael is built in suffering, but we never thought the suffering would be so great," the premier said, adding that Friday's "criminal act prompted us all to come here and say 'enough.'"

The prime minister said that security forces "were doing their best to detain the murderers," adding: "These aren’t people, their monsters."

Netanyahu told his cabinet on Sunday that Palestinian Authority incitement against Israel was instrumental in causing the attack.

"We bare witness to horrific things," Netanyahu said. "A soccer game will soon be named after a suicide bomber who murdered dozens of people on Yafo Street in Jerusalem. The Palestinian Authority grants scholarships to the families of murderers and names squares in their honor. This does not show the PA is educating toward peace."

This was a peaceful loving couple trying their best to raise their family in the spirit of Judaism. There is no way to bring them back. Please do a mitzva in their name as often as you can. And do what you can to support the remaining children. The years ahead will not be easy for them. Stop this political posturing and focus on what can heal........

The deaths are regrettable. There is no evidence yet that it was a Palestinian. It could have been someone else with easy access to the settlement. Israel fails to protect its citizen by allowing them to settle land that is not their's. Why don't then stay in Telavive where they have better protection. What's this obsession with someone else's land. The tragedy should make us think that settlements are not a wise solution. I say this with a heavy heart for the children, the parents and the sister who's lives and wil have to live with this tragedy for the rest of her life. Let's strive for peace for crying out loud. Enough is enough. How many should die and how many should you kill before you reach a solution. Let the souls of the dead children be the light that brings peace to the whole region. Don't let them die in vain. The murderer will meet his fate no doubt. The curse of this ugly crime shall haunt him for the rest of his life.

"Blood vengeance against children - even Satan hasn't devised". How true. If there was death penalty in Israel, this despicable and cowardly crime is definitely a reason to prevent the evil perpetrator (and I don't care how many proofs of insanity his future lawyers might produce) from ever waking-up in the morning. This having been said, and in absolutely no way of defending, excusing or explaining the inhuman act, the defunct parents had no business being there to begin with. As for Ya'alon demagogic contention that a murder of a family is an "existential" threat to Israel, it will probably bring him a few votes that he would have garnered in any case but definitely disqualified him from being in any responsible position in a democratic government. This is a murder. A murder of the worst kind (if one can distinguish between one premeditated murder and another) but a murder. Not a weapon of mass destruction waiting to fall on the country.

As a Palestinian neighbour, I and all the people I know deeply condemn this brutal action, and hope that it will not lead to further escalation. And to the fanatics who are helding all the Pals responsible for this disgusting action I say that this is the same twisted blind logic which held a 3 month old baby responsible for illeagal settlement construction.

The purpose of punishing offenders is not only to have justice, but to deter other crimes. Well, the settlers already took care of the latter reason by attacking Arabs and their property. Now we can let the wheels of justice turn at their normal pace. Note that as long as the murderers are not caught, there is always the fear that they may try again. Such fear is not a negative factor. The Itamar settlers are deep into Samaria, and will have to leave their settlement once a peace deal is signed, even according to Netanyahu. So this fear may help softening them up and perhaps even induce new settlers not to come there. In short, a bonanza for all forward thinking Israelis. Notice that this consideration applies AFTER the killing and does not justify it. The question is :how to prevent more such killings in the future.

I first console the victims' families and condemn such a criminal deed. What 's striking is what Netanyahu proceeded to. Instead of sympathizing with the incident and investigating the murder case, the man directly improvised- which is not a novelty- by expressing a desire or let me say decision to stop peace negociations. A retaliation to the crime came in the form of burning cars of Palestenians. It's really shameful to hear this. Whoever is respnsible about the crime is guilty. But the worst is to avenge from people who have no hand in the murder because this in itself is a crime.

We have had Tathir Square and Pearl Square now its time for Rabin Square. The jews must gather in their thousands at Kikar Rabin send a message to the world we will not accept children being stabbed in their beds and lets build new jewish homes with pride as an act of defiance. Let Obama condemn it we can show him pictures of the dead children and let him know if he wants anything from Israel he needs to start putting the squeeze on Abbas and turn a blind eye to his lack of desire to talk but then blame it all on Bibi. Lets also tell the entire world know the more jews murdered the more settlements that will be built. Before this Bibi was starting to talk tough with settlers and remove illegal outposts now permission has been given to build 500 new homes as a retaliation. The arabs have just encouraged further settlement building.

Your notion of building houses in the West Bank in "retaliation" amounts to providing an after-the-horrific-murder justification for a policy that didn't have one, besides religious fervor of a supremacist kind. Give your natural revulsion at this horrendous crime another vent-out. If gut rules over reason and heart, then we will justify a collective punishment out of our desperation. Let the shiva be, and let the revulsion have its natural course outside politics. Ose shalom bimromav, hu yaase shalom aleinu, veal kol Israel, veimru amen.
