Sources: Barak to okay panel for Gaza flotilla probe
Defense Ministry officials tell Army Radio that Ehud Barak will agree to creation of investigatory committee; State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss to open probe of decision-making process that led to raid.
By Jonathan Lis, Tomer Zarchin and Haaretz Service Tags: Israel news Gaza flotilla Ehud Barak IDFDefense Minister Ehud Barak will agree to the formation of an investigatory committee to look into the events surrounding the Israel Defense Forces' interception of the Gaza-bound "Freedom Flotilla" earlier this week, Army Radio reported on Saturday.
Nine pro-Palestinian activists were killed when Israeli naval commandos took control of the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara ship, one of six vessels intercepted on Monday morning.
Defense Ministry officials told Army Radio that Barak would agree to the creation of the committee on the condition that IDF officers and soldiers would not be investigated.
The officials said Barak would also agree to the participation of an international observer on the committee, if necessary.
Also, State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss is likely to open an investigation into Israel's decision-making process that led to the raid on the flotilla. Lindenstrauss is expected to take part in a meeting of the Knesset's State Control Committee this week
"I don't want the soldiers who were involved to have to appear before an international inquiry commission," said MK Nir Hasson (Kadima), head of the State Control Committee. "The start of an inquiry by the State Comptroller will demonstrate that Israel has begun a serious internal investigation into what happened, which will lessen the motivation for an external probe."

The world rightly does not trust Israel. There must be an Independent International Inquiry. Too little. Too late. Too bad.
Fine, Now which "idependant" group is going to investigate what occurred befor the ships set sail, whether violence was their plan and the conduct of the "activists" when the IDF boarded the ship?
If not, you got something to hide.
Why not let murderers investigate themselves to see if they are guilty or innocent as this is what is happening here. Pigs will fly before Israel is able to conduct a fair investigation.
That it was a PR stunt by Palestinian supporters to provoke violence from the IDF and use the Media play to give Israel a PR black-eye. It forces the the Pro Pals to face up to the fact that they see everything regarding Israel through a bias prism of anti-Israel thinking. Every video...with the exception of Al-Jazeera's laughable reporting referring to the passengers as "woman, children and the elderly"... clearly shows they intentionally lied in their report from the ship. Because as we all saw here in the free world the multiple and deadly attacks on the IDF soldiers...immediately and before they boarded, by large groups (between 7-10) of MEN, not "children, woman and the elderly" as Al-Jazeera claimed. Fortunately besides the IDF video's which totally exonerates Israel, the so called "peace activists"...over 50 turned out to be Jihadist with direct links to terrorist groups... forgot to disable or were unaware that the ships own security video cameras were rolling, revealing clearly them (peace activists) preparing to provoke the IDF for a violent confrontation before the IDF ever boarded the ship. Marks Findings: Another staged and fabricated Pallywood story used to trick the world into giving undeserved world sympathy for the Palestinians and their non-existent crisis in Gaza. BUSTED AGAIN.
The politicians blundered by not involving themselves in the intricate details of the raid, but is that really their job? Aside from that, it was a military foul up from beginning to end. If IDF members will not participate, then forget about it.
Israel must have money to burn. What a waste of time. Israel investigating itself. Verdict: We're innocent victims. The flotilla are evil terrorists. We kill whoever we want and there is nothing the world can do about it...... or maybe there is. I hear a boat of European Jewish human rights activists are coming to break the Gaza siege in mid-July. Why doesn't Israel just end the siege?
Ambush? I don tink so. If even one of the 600 people aboard was armed with an AK-47, or even one had had a suicide vest on, the casualty count would not have been so lopsided.
Let it prove that the boat of hate planned to attack our worthy soldiers. Let the probe prove that the al-Qaida people on the boat used terror wheelchairs to attack our troops. Let it prove that Israel committed no wrong in protecting its population against the deadly rockets of Gaza.
Israel has nothing to hide.
Without the soldiers there is no need for an investigation. This just points to another coverup.
so, the accused is to put himself on a trial where he is the accused, the jury, and the judge...LOL that is absolutely phenomenal to hear this!!!!
