Russia says won't back new Iran sanctions over nuclear program
Iranian army general: Dimona nuclear site could be targeted in response if Israel attacks Iran.

"Any additional sanctions against Iran will be seen in the international community as an instrument for regime change in Iran. That approach is unacceptable to us, and the Russian side does not intend to consider such proposals," Interfax quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov as saying.

Earlier on Wednesday, France said it wanted to convene the UN Security Council and could push for unprecedented sanctions against Iran after an International Atomic Energy Agency report said Iran had worked to develop an atomic bomb design.
"Convening of the UN Security Council is called for," Foreign Minister Alain Juppe told RFI radio.
In a statement, Juppe said diplomatic pressure needed to be ramped up.
"If Iran refuses to conform to the demands of the international community and refuses any serious cooperation, we stand ready to adopt, with other willing countries, sanctions on an unprecedented scale," Juppe said.
Also on Wednesday, an Iranian army general warned Israel that any attack against Iranian nuclear sites would not only be met with the "destruction" of Israel, but would invite a reaction that spread beyond the Middle East.
Deputy armed forces chief Massoud Jazayeri did not further elaborate, but said that the Dimona nuclear site in Israel could be targeted by Iran if Israel attacked it.

See the photo,See the coat that Ahmad is wearing"all crumpled up & messy-looking. Compare that with Putin''s. And you mean to tell us that Iran is building a N.Bomb ! Come on !
Russia also have problems with muslim fanatics killing its citizens. So why crawl on your knees for the mullahs in teheran? Instead Russia should support Israel in every way and get support in return. But Russia is lead by ex KGB/FSB officers still thinking of the cold war. Thats why they cant support anything the US and Israel stands for. Even if its the only truth. Look they also support the butcher in damascus.
Why Russia have to support the facists in Israel?Be happy that Russia 20 years ago let hunderds of thousands Russia jews made immigration to Israel. On that time our NL embassy in Moskou was the proxy for Israel!
Diplomacy and sanctions on israeli nukes is a good start if US were sincere in solving the conflict, but they arent, they just look for regime change.
Read Revelations: China, Russia, etc. do not win.
each nuke requires the refining of 1500kg of uranium u only have dimona operational for 40 years max do the maths yourself
Iran is unlike any other arab army faced by Israel previously. I am led to believe that these iranians are more than a match for Israel, It's proxy last war in Lebanon proved that. I also believe that the USA is unlikely to attack Iran - that leaves Israel on it's own.
should be him the one that has a direct and frank talk with Russians?
US and IAEA must destroy israel dimona facility first before they destroy Iran's parchin
world doesnt want more wars and having a nuclear israel destablize the region, no more double standard. Either Israel give up its nukes or expect a follower. Just like Soviet/USA, INDIA/Pakistan, North korea/South Korea and so forth.
exaclty US/israel doesnt want a solution, they want to bully Iran into submission.
Remember one issue,, Iranian people like Israel and the regime is hostile, but in the arab countries may be the regims are not harmfull to Israel but people hate Israel. This is the difference between persians and arabs. people stay and regimes go.
I can't understand how a once powerful & decent nation has fallen into the hands of thugs & criminals !
The USA said NO to Olmert, NO to Netanyahu. Yet Israel militants pursue a premptive attack on Iran. Good for getting out the vote and saving face, I suppose; but I don't think Netanyahu is such a fool as to initiate a war with Iran. Unfortunately, Israel's theocrats are not so wise as Russian atheists.
If you say you love and desire peace, then support nuclear IMBALANCE.
Here we have a situation in which Israel is threatening to start a war with Iran because Israel has WMDs and for the moment Iran probably does not. Would Israel start such a war if Iran had deliverable WMDs? It may serve an expansionist Israel to have overwhelming military superiority, but another war in the Middle East certainly doesn't serve the world.
All this latest noise from Israel and some quarters in the West was aimed at blackmailing the Russians and Chinese into going along with new round of sanctions. In this game, Israel will threaten and make all the noise for the west to do something or else they'll attack..The US/West responds by threatening or turning on Russia/China to go along with sanctions in order to prevent the Israelis from attacking. The Russians/Chinese, fearing a regional war, somewhat go along with the plan..But now, it seems they've seen through the BS..They know very well Israel cannot attack Iran on their own and the US/West are in no position to launch a new war in the region due to their economies. If this latest move was to get UNSC sanctions, forget it..It won't fly.
Some one please remind me why Israel can have Nukes and Iran cant? Israel should stop whining and offer up a nuke free middle east or except Iran as a member
Israel is a reasonable democratic country, (which does not oppress his own people or crack down on protesters)and part of the Western World, while Iran is a crazy nutty zealous theocrazy, which will do anything unimmaginable to get their religious global vision in place.
The Russian internal and foreign policies are driven by sheer opportunism which is served under the sauce of "geopolitics"and of "Eurasianism". But opportunism never works in the long run. Russia's support for the Iranian repressive and theocratic regime, for its terrorist allies and for its nuclear armament is disgrace which Russia will ultimately pay for.
having israel commit warcrimes against all its neighborus.
i have researched jews and iran, iran has the largest concentration of jews in the middle east outside israel there are no claims of any anti semitism, i have found no evidence of threats against jews, i have found a lot of evidence of threats against the israel establishment and that jews have to be the minority in israel achieved through the right of return, i did not depend on newspaper reports but computer translation from farsi directly, simple facts, unpalatable to the zionist propagandists but facts none the less
In a country that highly regulates the content of all publications, your conclusions are clearly based on unreliable facts. Merely because no complaints of anti-semitism are manifested does not mean the actual anti-semitism exists. Think about it, hot shot
What war did you fight for Israel so far?
Threatening Iran, sanction it, isolate will ONLY give Iran the reason to actually develope a deterrence capacity. Diplomacy, respect and no doublstandard should be applied. With that being said also israel must be sanctioned and forced to sign the NPT.
and then next time it will be more than 6 million. Diplomacy works when dealing with rational beings. If Iran stopped transferring millions of Euros daily to Russia, I am sure that the Russian Dictator...yes, DICTATOR...would side with the West. Then again, the Russians are still trying to rebuild that wall right?
Israel needs a nuclear deterrent as it is surrounded by overwhelming numbers determined to destroy it. Iran is not confronted by such a prospect. Israel does not threaten to destroy another country. The president of Iran has so threatened. Garbo is equating an imperfect country with a barbaric one.
So: Don't sanction Iran, sanction Israel. Luckily, your words hold no weight and nobody can "force" Israel to do anything, except its own people.
Alan, Israel attacks, Iran talks. Which is really the more meaningful threat to peace?
stop the madness and do whats right like palestine state and lasting peace
iran has the advantage of an attack causing russia to lose face, russia are just not going to allow this.
iran has inter continental missiles israel doesnt, hence the panic to test out the jericho last week, the threat to dimona is real
looks like this one has run its course for another year
the russians have clearly spoken this week, it is all over bar the shouting
the big brown bear has spoken, and the iranian makes a good point, suspect the steam is now evaporating out of this one
Boys and Girls we need to dial back the rhetoric and not become carried away with the exuberance of our velocity.
No, they are making nukes- a strategic military target.
Let me see. Israel is allegedly in possession of 400 nukes. Iran might have one or two or conventional missiles. Iran destroys Dimona. Does Iran think that Israels 400 nukes will remain idle or will they be sent express mail to Tehran. Iran talks very stupid and is full of Iranian faschla. A sampson Option will assure Iran of complete and utter destruction on a scale that will make Hiroshima and Nagasaki seem like a pinprick.
Both Russia and China regard lucrative business as usual with Iran as more important than the Regime's human rights violations at home and sovereign nation rights violations abroad. That the stronger Islamic Iran gets the more they're empowered to help their Muslim brethren in Russia & China overcome being lorded over by infidels totally escapes the leaders of these countries as they pursue short term gain for long term pain.
eh?
G-d protects me. No human being protects me and I have no faith in anyone except Him.
Freedom and Democracy always has high price to pay. Just see,for example, the Palestinian struggle for their deserved Independence.
you are, of course, referring to the Palestinians' struggle to "relieve" themselves from corrupt and undemocratic leaders.
Russia doesn't support military action against Iran nor does it support sanctions. "Gog and Magog" anyone?
Is iran who threatens Israel every single day. Russia is just a trouble maker. Always was, always will be
Walt D, I agree 100%. However, the US has available solutions to reduce purchase of foreign oil and rely only on its own, Canada and Mexico. So foreign oil is not survival for the US or for Israel but business as usual. If the Repuclicans were not so horrible I would not vote for Obama. He has turned out to be awful which is one level above horrible.
Actually he said that any missile fired from Cuba at the US would be considered an attack on the US by the Soviet Union.
The Russians could have conveyed this information privately. On the other hand swift delivery of the s300 system would have sent the same message loud and clear, and that at least is a defensive system whilst threatening Dimona is aggressive and plays into USA and Israel’s propaganda games.
But the same point applies to the Iranians, don't play the propaganda game, there's no point.
Since Iran, for all we know, has not yet decided to actually build a nuclear device, there is plenty of time for another round of sanctions to bite. My suggestion: The Security Council should decide that any future supply of nuclear fuel to Iranian power/research plants (by Russians as in Bushehr, or others) should be paid for by an equivalent amount of Iranian Uranium, first enriched and then even raw. Iran does not have much Uranium, and is looking around even TODAY for a seller, so this exchange plan will bring an end to their enrichment program. Problem solved.
