According to the report, thousands of Egyptian soldiers were deployed along the Suez Canal guarding the ships' passage, which included a U.S. aircraft carrier.

The Suez Canal is a strategic Egyptian waterway which connects between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.

According to eyewitnesses, the U.S. battleships were the largest to have crossed the Canal in many years, Al-Quds reported.

Egyptian opposition members have criticized the government for cooperating with the U.S. and Israeli forces and allowing the ships' passage through Egyptian territorial waters.

They said they viewed the event as Egyptian participation in an international scandal, and added that the opposition would not sit with its arms crossed while the country allowed a fleet of  U.S. and Israeli military ships to cross.

Probably Iranian vessel inspections. But if this is the start of The Attack : The bunker busters have arrived in Diego Garcia, but be aware there can' t be an attack on Iran without missiles falling all over Israel.Iran will resort to assymetric warfare;naval : swarms of small vessel loaded with missiles and subsonic torpedoes (these travel in a airpocket blown out of the nose cone). land : Hezbollah will launch their stuff. Also expect large numbers of Iranian missiles. Israel can not fly over Turkey since the Turks already installed their patriots to avoid that.

The CVN Truman is headed to the Persian Gulf to replace the CVN Eisenhower. This is a regular rotation of the ships both of which are based in Norfolk Virginia. "According to eyewitnesses, the U.S. battleships were the largest to have crossed the Canal in many years, Al-Quds reported." - Jack Kohury Twaddle, US CVNs of the Nimitz Class regularly transit the Suez Canal. Carrier Strike Group 10 includes; the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75; Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3; Destroyer Squadron (CDS) 26; the guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60), and guided-missile destroyers USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79), USS Ross (DDG 71) and German Frigate FGS Hessen (F221).

    Just a warning to Iran

I take this show of force to be a warning to Iran following the passage of the UNSC sanctions resolution. The bad news: It is only US and Israel; should have included NATO ships or, at least. "coalition of the willing". Perhaps this show was a payment to Netanyahu who desires to "link" and "condition" the peace process with the Palestinians to some action against Iran. In this case, perhaps we will see some progress in the peace process since the US did its share. But I bet Netanyahu will find some excuse not to proceed.

This shows how dangerous Islamist extremists can be. Blocking the Suez Canal, especially to a nation you have diplomatic relations with, is a violation of international law.

there are laws that govern the passage of ships in the canal. all ships may pass except from countries with which egypt is at war. so iranian ships are passing through the canal even as us and israeli military ships are passing through. this is a total non-story.

Are you perchance suggesting that Iran has even the faintest possibility of millitarily overcoming Egypt? I seriously doubt this exists within the realm of possibilities. Egypt is armed with some of the best weapons of the west. Iran has a surfeit of missiles, and little else.

    • 14:12

Should the situation played out the other way, like when Iranian ships want to enter into the Suez Canal heading towards Gaza, then suddenly the Egyptian opposition would say "it's international waters" and look the other way, right? The double standard only works for Egyptian opposition, nobody else.

I suspect they are on their way to position themselves near to Iran. Won't do them much good. Even if the bomb Iran will continue to build a bomb which is oviovious they are doing. Meanwhile Hezbollah will draw Israel in to yet another leabanon war with even more advance weapons. Meanwhile gaza will become an even bigger issue as the world and their dog will send flotillas and helicopters to drop aid into gaza.

Are the US and Israel saber rattling and trying to whip up a little fear, or are they preparing to attack someone? Far too much testosterone from these two countries. The US is already involved in two wars, how many do they think they can do at once? Israel is used to beating the pants off everyone, but this time they're taking on bigger boys. Everyone should back it down a notch.

Just a routine show of force to further empower the latest international sanctions against Iran. Would not be surprised if Israel's Navy sent its ship just to give an impression of US Israel collaboration in this show. Best strtaegy to stop Israel from attacking Iran.
