Iranian aid ships are due to set sail to Gaza by the end of the week, according to a report in the Sunday Times.

The Iranian Red Crescent decided to send the vessels, which will carry food, medications, and medical equipment, following a meeting with the foreign ministry,

“One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers. The ships will be sent to Gaza by end of this week,” Iranian Red Crescent director Abdolrauf Adibzadeh told the IRNA news agency.

On Sunday, a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards are ready to provide a military escort to cargo ships trying to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

"Iran's Revolutionary Guards naval forces are fully prepared to escort the peace and freedom convoys to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities," Ali Shirazi, Khamenei's representative inside the Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Israel Navy commandos last Monday killed nine activists in clashes on board the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara in a convoy trying to deliver aid to Gaza. The incident sparked international outrage, especially in Muslim countries and in Turkey, which threatened to cut its long-standing ties with Israel.

Israeli troops boarded another ship on Saturday and pro-Palestinian activists have promised more as they challenge the blockade imposed four years ago with the stated aim of stopping arms getting to Hamas.

Now you know what an Iran with BOMBS (made with German and Russian technology) will do. Thanks to China and Russia, and the impotence and stupidity of Europe, the world will look differently quite soon. Tant pis! At least America will suffer later if at all. We'll vacation in New Zeeland.

    Gaza via Rafah

The goods will be transported to Gaza via the Rafah crossing. The revolutionary guards are prepared to escort IF Khamenei issue that order. See for all this iranian presstv.ir today. Be careful, It will be an clear israeli act of war to attack aid ships without or with military escort in international waters heading to Egypt instead of Gaza. Egypt has to handle this, not Israel.

Ahmadinejad's idiotic idea to exploit the flottila issue for his own purposes will seriously backfire. This won't help the Gaza people at all in their demand to get rid of the inhumane blockade, but instead will give Israel an excuse to claim that the flotilla activists are in bed with Iran. And Iran won't gain anything from this. So, what is this nonsense good for? Grr.

I guess it will be between Egypt and Iran. This from PressTV web site: "The aid consists of food and medical supplies, which will be transported into Gaza via the Rafah border in Egypt before the week is through," the country's Red Crescent Director Abdolraoof Adibzadeh said. The Rafah border crossing is the only escape route from Gaza that does not lead to Israel.

The hypocritical Turkish government trying to break the blockade with military escorts, now the Iranians treatening to do the same with armed escorts. This is a DELIBRATE confrontation in the making, to what end, a war? Was this planned by Edrogen Assad and Iranian Mullahs? Why are the Peace Activists not calling for dialogue and doing things in a different way instead of trying to break this blockade?

There will be an iranian military escort and te ship will hold iranian commandos. the Iranians figure that they can only win no matter what happens.

Any Red Crescent ship will be completely unarmed.

      • 07.06.10
      • 11:27

And if the Iranians are smart they will (a) escort them with Iranian warships even as they (b) invite the Israeli navy to inspect the Red Crescent ships even as they (c) loudly point out that any Israeli attempt to seize control of the ships will bring the escort into play. After all, piracy on the high seas can't be tolerated..... What does Israel do then, Ron? Inspect the ships and then let them pass when they get a clean bill of health? Or assault those humanitarian ships and start a war?

Hi helen! great to see you back on the net after your recent "setback". Always good to see 89 year old people feeling spry. Tell me please: What of the Israelis who do not come from Eastern Europe and Germany and US? To where would you like them to go? Should Afro-Americans also return to whence they came? What about Mexican-Americans? Should they also return? We eagerly await your answer.

Hamas depends on Iran to keep it in power and Iran wants a port on the Mediterranean. The Arab world does not want an Iranian proxy in their midst. Therefore the Arab League must encourage Gaza to vote against Hamas and rejoin the West Bank in building an Arab League state of Palestine. Israel must move into the background as far as possible.

This is Iran's way of provoking Israel into the first action in a war mongered scenarion. Don't fall for it Israel, destroy their propellors and leave them stranded in the sea until their own people come and rescue them. Iran wants to proovoke israel into throwing the first punch anf thenn the whole ME is going to be dragged into an unwanted war

Israel is wanting to start a war. Either the tugs on Mavi Marmara were following the orders of Israeli Govt and that is a declaration of war against Turkey or they were criminals that should be offered to turkey according to international law. Israel is the one flaunting the international law, israel is the one doing illegal occupation of palestinian territories, israel is one starving and terrorizing the population of Gaza and West Bank. And you dare to call others standing up to these crimes for wanting a war when its israel in the wrong and it refuses to step back?

Israel's blockade of Gaza can be deemed an act of war. So after 4 years of jail, the World is starting to think that perhaps Israel has no right to declare who and what can come and go from Gaza. Just remember that free and democratic elections of the Palestinian population that voted for Hamas over Fatah started this incarceration!!!!

There must be other ways of keeping arms from entering Gaza and restoring PA Pres Abbas and holding free elections for the PA as a whole. The West Bank moves towards autonomy and Gaza should have the right to decide if it wants to be part of the emerging PA state or a pawn of Iran.
