The Israeli, whose name was not revealed, was arrested by Ukrainian police along with 12 other people.
According to the report, the network operated for over three years and recruited donors via the internet. Most of the donors were young women who agreed to sell a kidney for $10,000.
The organs were then allegedly transferred to Israelis in need of a kidney transplant, which cost over $200,000, said the head of the Ukrainian organization for combating human trafficking during a press conference following the arrests.
Ukrainian police estimated that the network made a gross sum of $40 million.
The facility in which the alleged operations for extracting the kidneys took place denied the allegations.

The majority of Israelis are Jewish in one form or another and most Jews because of their Religious beliefs do not believe in Organ Donation. Jewish People who believe this way are not the only people who believe this way for Religious reasons by a long way however, Israel does have a large concentration of Jews as you would of course expect and that is exactly why it is problem. Having said that, I do not think that gives unscrupilious organ harvesters, doctors, or any other participants, Jewish or any other religion the right to go out and buy an organ for $10,000 from a poor man to sell to a rich one for $200,000 for the gift of life. Do you think you would look better bring the poor man to Israel and his family well, pay him the his, travel costs, his health care, make sure he is healthy when he leaves and pay him $100,000 to face his future in his homeland with one less kidney. How good both Israel and the Jewish Person who needed that Kidney would look. No longer would Israelis be organ traffickers, but a Country who truly cared not only for its own Jewish People, but for non-Jewish People willing to come to Israel to supply the organ to save an Israeli and Israel will see it is done safely and as humanely and kindly and with as much dignity to both people as possible.
Most of the world does not think a rich person should have the right to buy more years of their lives from a poor person who would then lose those years. Certainly it would be best if they were paid better, but I think the entire world still looks at it as a terrible, criminal thing to do.
If that's the case, it's a wonder they even have kidneys at all. I mean how many thousand s of years of existential angst can a kidney handle before it gives up? Their hearts have devolved to little lumps of coal, that much is certain..
It gives us Jews a bad name, many Jews are still facing criminal charges in New York for this, we have to stick to other form of trade this doesn't go well with public here in USA,
Weren't we all "anti-Semites" the last time Israelis got sprung for doing this?
Strange how this topic keeps coming up in Israel.

deemed to be kosher? Does the donor need to pass a "Jewishness test?"
People in israel have contacted me that are in desperate need of a kidney. If you want to donate a kidney alturistically, please feel free to contact me. I donated a kidney to a stranger in 2005. Since my kidney donation, I have been wanting to do more - so I now have a project to help others in need of a kidney. I don't get paid for this and don't charge a fee. My brother donated a kidney as well - to someone on my list of people in need of a kidney. this problem is a world-wide problem. a very big market are arabs in the gulf area which have one of the highest diabetes rate in the world , hence the a very high kidney failure rate. egypt was and probably still is a popular oragan market for these arabs. poor egyptians would sell a kidney not for 10 000 but for 2000 dollars. illegal clinics perform transplantations which are frequently lethal for donors and recipients. thte same is true for turkey and india, people selling organs for little money.but hardly anyone ever mentions these countries and their organ trade, it is as usually the "bad israel". :(
i agree with you and many other newspapers worldwide are also publishing similar stories about other countries not just Israel , it goes to show that these things also occurs in Israel....like most crimes that happens in other countries also happens in Israel...what do you think?
for absolutely every and any transplant it must be registered 1- the donor 2-the doctor and institution where the organ came from 3-the transport facilities 4-the final operation Doctor and establishment. 5-any and every infracton shoul be severly punished. there is no choice, once and for all we must erase this antropofagian crime
Did this traffickers had any good intention...i doubt it. Did they save hundreds of Lives....most certainly. Did they caused harm to anybody.... absolutely but i guess that the people that sold their organs were aware of the involved risks and agreed to the deal. 10,000 $ can also do a lot of good in a poor country and maybe even save some lives to. I am sure the people involved will be punished harshly but imagine you or one of your children is in need for a kidney..would you refuse it when it comes from the Ukraine or anywhere else ?
even begin to legitimize your statements. They were greedy bastards (no race viewed) who made over $40 million.
Many children lives are bettered by their parents robbing banks or committing other criminal actions, but that does not make it less of a crime.
...if the Israeli government will now try and deport some of the receiving patient's in Israel because they are now slightly less than 100% Jewish.
About lifestyles that end up with kidney disease. Or maybe its just the tension and energy expense that comes of constantly feeling surrounded and misunderstood.
all of whom are obviously irrelevant
each one of us should know that we are responsible for each other and our actions reflect to all jews.
None of this is reflective of all Jews.
No, they don't. They reflect upon the actor, not the collective.
it should not change be reflected upon Israel's government or existence. A lot of Arabs jumped on this story a while and falsely alledged that it was Israel's or IDF's policy to do that. However, as it was shown here, it was an individual's act. Israel's police and investigative authorities are the one that should handle it. It's very unfortunate.
Does this rule also apply to Germans?
Ben, why should it be that Israel's police be the ones to handle this, he was working from Ukraine, so he should be charged/tried in Ukraine.
Oh, so you're saying don't blame a whole group of people for the actions of a few? You're joking, right?
You're right Tam, again slime balls come in all shapes and sizes and no country can claim the moral highground on this issue.#
It has been admitted by the IDF and by Prof Hiss that organs have been removed from Palestinians and also by the way even Palestinians who have been killed by the IDF's families have allowed donations of their organs to be donated to at least two Jewish children that I know of over the years, free of charge in life-saving operations. So I think we should stop pointing fingers and start trying to stop the hatred and start realizing that we need each other to live here in all aspects of life.
These stories are more damaging for Israel than a thousand Grad rockets
These are individuals, it doesn't reflect the Israeli society as a whole or anthing. Sure the fact that there seems to be very little investigation of the origin of the organs seems like an Israeli problem.
That organ theft and trafficking is wholly an Israeli issue and/or it is dominant there compared to other states, are you? Cause I have a bridge I can sell you. Should he have been a British citizen in an article on BBC would you say "these stories damage Britain" ? Regardless if he's found guilty I hope he rots in jail for the rest of his life
Criminals are found in every society. I criticize Israel when it starts a bloody war not when Israeli criminals get caught.
Of course it reflect the Israeli society as a whole. Israel has the lowest rate of donors for transplants in the world! Supply and demand, that´s what creates this problem!
"O" just not understand the meaning of the word "society" in the context of Israeli. Do not bother, it is sad, I know.
Is this related to last January's arrest of a Jewish organ harvester? Did he rat out the other members of his organization?
Rat out? I'm glad he did. Organ trafficking has to stop. This is despicable. I hope all of them are arrested. Do it legally by people who have the free will to choose to donate organs, instead of preying on victims of economic hardships who have no choice but donating. choic
