Transcontinental missiles are generally thought of as missiles with ranges of about 5,000 miles.
The Guardian also reported that Israel is also striving to improve and expand the capabilities of its cruise missiles, designed to be launched from submarines. Israel currently has three submarines and two more are under construction in Germany. Israel and Germany are holding talks about the construction of a sixth submarine.
According to foreign media reports, Israel's submarines are meant to give Israel a "second strike" nuclear option, meaning that Israel can strike back with nuclear weapons from submarines at hidden locations at sea even if its nuclear weapons stored on land are harmed in an enemy nuclear strike.
According to the report in the Guardian, the world's nuclear states are planning to spend more than $800 billion in the coming years to modernize and upgrade their nuclear arsenals. The United States itself will spend $700 billion dollars on such projects. Other countries that will reportedly invest in upgrading their nuclear arsenals are Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Israel, France and Britain.

The Guardian is not Israel friendly, quite the opposite.
It's better to be prepared than to be surprised.
Subs were already an option since the world has decided not to deal with Iran and let it develop it's own nuclear missiles. Israel is simply taking the extra step ahead by making sure it can respond even after receiving a nuke on it's head. Long range missiles can prevent countries like Pakistan to threaten Israel with anything as well.
Tick Tick Tick the Doomsday Clock ticks closer to midnight! Never ending war in the nuclear age with Dr Strangelove leaders has no other ending! Stop the madness now before its too late!
if it does, why not allow inspectors?if israel does have nuclear weapons can they object to others having them? should not be there a law which is fair for all? or does the world walk on two weights and two measures?
it is about teh survival of the state of israel in an area where its neighboiurs dont want it around, It has nothing to do with Israel attacking its neighbours unlike Israels neighbors attacking it
"Nuclear powers plan weapons spending spree, report finds," reads the headline. The 'leak' is intended to justify replacing the Trident System. Britain has undergone immense defense cuts, and whether the Trident should be replaced has been under debate for years. The single sentence mentioning Israel is just the penultimate boogyman used as a 'threat'.
what a joke and all these countries speak of peace.
You need nukes like you need a hole in your head, just ask the people of Japan.
I see, the Guardian is left wing, therefore it must be talking rubbihs? Engage your brain before spouting off, my friend. The Guardian's report covers all nuclear arms power countries; Israel gets about 3 lines in the whole article - http://tinyurl.com/6jjpdxd . The Guardian also is merely reporting the source of ths information: British American Security Information Council (BASIC) www.basicint.org . But, I suppose, according to you, they must be talking rubbish too; after all they were quoted by the Guardian (Oh! shock! horror!).
1st the Guardian publishes only the best in articles that debase and show hatred towards Israel. 2nd they love anything that is anti-Joo. 3rd If they only state 3 lines as you say why is Haaretz making it a headline story?
