On Tuesday, while Israeli troops were trimming a tree on the border fence between Israel and Lebanon, Lebanese soldiers opened fire at an observation post some 300 meters from the fence in Israeli territory. A senior Israel Defense Forces officer was killed, and another was seriously wounded.
Israel Defense Forces analysts speculated following the event that the sniper fire was ordered by a single Lebanese commander, and that the operation was not coordinated with higher ranks within the Lebanese military.
Army Radio quoted Lebanese newspaper A Nahar as having reported that Israel had approached officials in Lebanon demanding that the commander face trial. The Lebanese paper based its report on "Israeli sources" who reportedly warned that if Lebanon fails to take substantial action against this commander, Israel would target him personally and view the Lebanese soldiers deployed along the border as enemy soldiers.
Israeli officials have so far denied the report.

If israel lets this one go its a sign of weakness both at home and to the world. The IDF soldiers were in Israeli territory when they were attacked by the Lebanese army. This is by definition an act of war between one nation to the other, Israel is handling this maturally and very fairly my simply demanding trail of the commander.
He was probably an Israeli spy!
Its obvious by looking at the picture that Israel needs to take the high ground in this area. It is a matter of security. Just take it and be done with it. If these stupid Lebanese want to go to war then may God have mercy on their souls !
How about investigating the death of the 3 Lebanon’s solders??? Or those don’t count?
Huh! How arrogant? Does Israel think that Lebanon is the Palestinian Authority? Lebanon doesn't need to answer to Israeli dictates.
How would Israel respond to the same demand made by Lebanon?
Seriously! As if the Lebanese army is not already considered an enemy? Hello! you are occupying their land :) so you both are enemies since 1948 :). Love the story though, quite entertaining.
Did any of you anti Israel Jew Baiters actually read the story before you all popped up to post your usual hate filled drivel. This report comes from a Lebanese newspaper and has been denied by Israel. But since when do you let facts confuse your agenda. Never stopped the usual culprits Tony Silver, Logios and Lou Medel before. Tell me what have you three done lately to actually improve the life of the palestinians. Thought so. You do not so much support the palestinian cause as hate the "zionists" and Israel. Dream on. we will be here way after you are all gone.
Boy those Israeli's are hilarious..Demanding that Commander be discharged. Can you imagine the response if the scenario was flipped???
If all IDF commander would face trial for their responsability for the killing of thousands of Palestians, your military court will have a lot of work. But probably IDF is the opinion only others are responsible for unjustified killings and not the soldiers of the army of the God´s chosen people.
What we are seeing is an intentional escallation by Israel. It is clear and on the record now that Israel is the party who is stoking the violence.
It is up to the officers superiors whether they want to discipline him, or more likely promote him. It is not for Israel to say. As for threatening to assassinate him, this opens wide a door that is better left shut. There are lots and lots of soft Jewish targets in the world, especially in America. It is only a matter of time until Israels actions inspire someone to seek those targets out.
This officer must know that his days are numbered. He should enjoy life while he still can...
The report was correct. Israeli leaders have jumped over all red lines. Their arrogance is unpreceded. There is no need for a psychoanalyst to define their mental disorders. Following their way of thinking, then all israeli soldiers including their political leaders are criminals and must be targeted every where.
All is fine, Lebanese military have investigated the incident and found no Lebanese military personnel had any case to answer for.
Just as IDF investigated the attack on Mavi Marmara (without interviewing the perps) and decided Israel did nothing wrong.
enough is enough!
If we end the occupation from the sea to the river we will all be dead and resting in peace
Rightfull OWNER's, like it or not tony. ps you really should worry about how many mineretes going up in your neck of the woods.
When Tony has nothing new to add to his usual anti Israel posts he just cut and pastes the same old nonsense over and over. So now Israel is occupying Lebanon. What occupation are you talking about when an Israeli soldier is shot to death 300m inside Israel. Tony enough is definitely enough when it comes to your ignorant daily rants. You do not even support the palestinians you just hate the Jews.
Some organizations like Hamas view Tel Aviv, Haifa and Acre as occupied territories. To suggest this is all the fault of the occupation and that the lack of peace is due to Israel is laughable at best and a show of great ignorance at worst.
If the Arabs wanted peace there would peace tomorrow. enough is enough!
Israel should not give away its land. Israel had no peace even when the land was occupied by Jordan & Egypt before 1967. So your statement is NOT true.
You must know absolutely nothing about the history of why the occupation is there in the first place. Without the war has been and will be waged on Israeli CITIZENS. They feel it is completely justified to kill Israeli civilians.
Hey Tom, the two most troublesome areas from which there is hostility against Israel is Lebanon and Gaza. Both are areas free from any Israeli presence, and both are areas which are hotbeds of hatred and violence against Israel. Enough is enough of Hypocracy ad hatred of Isreael.
Why dont you end youre occupation of Afghanistan before blaming others!
Israel ended the occupation on Gaza and we see what it brought. And before you begin to moan about the "blockade" remember that Egypt shares a border and controls a border crossing with their Muslim brothers.
So Israel is occupying Lebanon. They are not even occupying Gaza, where hamas has free reign. Whatever Israel does, except self implode, it will never live in peace. Not while there are Arabs and Muslims.
... that there is not one scintilla of evidence that suggests any truth in what you proclaim. And plenty to suggest otherwise.
What occupation???? the IDF left Lebanon several years ago... Where have you benn all this time??
Could you explain ? Waht occupation are you taking about ? The occupation of Lebanon ? the occupation of the left egyptian gaza strip ? the occupation of the arab territories captured after the 1967 israeli launched war .? the Occupation conquered after the lost arab initadted wars or simply the occupation of arab land by the jewish people to finally come back on part of it's land ? My qustion is not stupid because the 1967 war came directly after the continued arab rejection of the jewish state of Israel. You can blame my country for a lot of things but learn (if you're an honnest man) History. Welcome to your world of anti-israelism
Yes and if only we would wing kumbaya all Muslims will accept Jews and neighbors
Tony, Israel has been out of Lebanon for a decade
Tony, Israel has been out of Lebanon for a decade
25 press reporters and "warning shots" that kill senior IDF officers 300m behind fence in Israel. Stop the Jehadi aggression and the world will be a peaceful place
The occupation of southern Lebanon ended a decade ago, Tony. Or are you talking about the occupation of Gaza? That ended five years ago. Or are you talking about the occupation of the West Bank? Do you really believe that pulling out of the West Bank will result in the end of hostilities from Iranian-funded, Syrian armed militants who are openly committed to the destruction of Israel?
Yes, end the occupation. Get Palestinians , Lebanese etc. off our land and they will LIVE. Israel is not leaving. Get used to it, peace or no peace.
the Moslems will never recognize Israeli control over any land that was Moslem-they consider all of previous Moslem land, including Spain, and Israel, to be land that must be returned to Moslem control-in the case of Spain, I have no doubt they will win.
I don't suppose Israel just going ahead with the brush clearing without waiting for the discussions about it with the Lebanese to reach a conclusion would qualify as bad judgment?
because Israel doesn't just almost start a war...
. isrl does not have exclusive rights to self defense or security.
How come I've never noticed you calling for this kind of reaction when IDF military units attacked targets in Lebanon? Just wondering.
one israeli dude died. that dude was a soldier. chill out, man, this is not on the scale of genocide.
You're always crying victim....
Mr. Harari was murdered, and the one who gave the order to murder him to prove Lebanese sovereignty (over a tree) should be brought to justice. From a country that rejoiced in the release of Samar Kuntar, I'm not holding my breathe.
You must be joking. How about extraditing to Gaza the IDF commandos who murdered nine unarmed passengers on board the Mavi Marmara without provocation?
By demanding such things they just promoted him...
The 'logic' behind the 'disciplined' Lebanese army.' They should remove him regardless of Israel's demand as he clearly shows he's an irresponsible commander.
Such incredible arrogance. Go piss into the wind. Salaam/Shalom
Seeing as how he nearly started a war that would kill thousands
Typical arrogance on the part of Israel. Can you imagine the IDF dismissing a company commander for killing Palestinians?
The Lebanese army must conduct its own investigation and its own evaluation of the recent incident. They may decide to punish the Lebanese commander or perhaps they will decide to promote him and give him a medal. Israel cannot unilaterally impose its view on the Lebanese army. Of course, Israel should act towards the Lebanese army according to its own view. But there is no room for threatening that "Israel would target him personally". The man is not a terrorist and is not a civilian, but is a soldier representing his country. He can be killed during another skirmish but not "targeted" out of the blue. Talk about Israeli "hubris". Bullies have a hard time returning to normal behavior.
Your logic fails you.
By the same logic then, Israel should be free to conduct its own investigations about Gaza and about the flotilla, right? How can the nations target this or that Israeli Army officer and desire to bring him to "justice". Its up to Israel to decide about the conduct of each of their own officers, right?
If that were the case, then the family of every IDF soldier who has shot a Palestinian civilian (how may have died well inside the Gaza fence?) would have their family targeted. Sound fair?
That UNIFIL soldiers were eyewitnesses to this event.
If the tables were turned the world would be screaming war crimes - we should extradite the ----------and try him for muder
Tsssss
hope the BABIES will not destroy Lebanon, some Babies love destroyng things!
The lebanese army is different than hezbollah only in their religious beliefs and capabilities.
It seems that Israel wants to lower tenion at all costs... The other side will see this as a sign of weakness.....
trust me...everyone wants lower tensions including you...becuase in the next war, missiles will hit Tel Aviv, you can bet your money on it! Instead of asking your leaders for escalation may be you should ask them to withdraw from shebaa farms and you may get some peace!
How does threatening to assasinate a Lebanese Army Commander lower the tension? Also, the Lebanese Army is deployed in Southern Lebanon at the request of the Israelis and the UN. Don't demand that they deploy troops in Southern Lebanon then threaten to assasinate their Commanders.
