By Haaretz Service Tags: Israel news IranIsrael is helping an exiled Arab sheikh to plot a bloodless coup in the Gulf emirate of Ras al-Khaimeh, the Britain's Guardian newspaper reported on Wednesday.
According to the Guardian report, Sheikh Khalid bin-Saqr al-Qasimi - the exiled crown prince of Ras al-Khaimeh - met with Israel's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ron Prosor in March. The Sheikh reportedly asked then for Israeli support in his attempt to seize control of the emirate from his dying father, Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qassimi, and the current crown prince Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr al-Qasimi.
Israel has subsequently provided wider assistance and advice, the Guardian said.

Ras al-Khaimeh, one of the seven sheikhdoms of the United Arab Emirates, is located directly across the Persian Gulf from Iran. According to the Guardian, Khalid has claimed that Ras al-Khaimeh currently serves as a nexus for the smuggling of nuclear technology to Iran.
Sheikh Saqr, 92, is reported to be in a hospital on the verge of death.
Sheikh Khalid was exiled by his father in 2003. Since then, Sheikh Khalid has launched a multi-million dollar public relations to boost his image amongst American officials and the pro-Israel lobby in the U.S., the Guardian reported.
A spokeswoman for the Israeli embassy in London declined to comment on the matter to the Guardian.

Could there be anything more insane than Israel following up the Dubai assassination with a coup in the Gulf? Before we reject the concept as lunacy, we must remember that Netanyahu and Lieberman are running Israel. Would they be that crazy?
so that's what the noble British press has devolved into. Among all the countries to turn to for advice and "aid" he turns to the Arab arch-enemy, Israel? Not MI6, not the CIA. Is today Apri 1st??? Well at least it's not as malign as the organ harvesting canard or draining blood for Passover matzehs, etc., etc, etc, Now that this trash has infected the "legitimate" media with it's bia, I guess just can't trust anybody anymore. Next thing you know, it'll even show up in the NY Times.
Israel and US have been helping Iranian enemies since revolution of Iran and even right now are present on all Iranian boarders. Maybe Iranians do not have the media to make their voice heard to US and Israeli citizens, but it does not change the reality and the consequence of this action to both nations. So it may helpful for Jewish people to understand what is the real motivation of Iran for helping Hezbollah and Hamas and do not attribute everything to anti-Semitism. If you want peace, you should at first stop your government of plotting for other nations. There are actions which whoever commits against another nation, it would reply, either they are Jewish or Christian or Muslim. The same is true about the Iranians. Unfortunately they are now so engaged in game that is difficult to say which party is the main cause of conflicts.
that the only assistance Israel promised was to sell the rebelious sheik a few boxes of cereal and a carton of condensed milk. True to form, the Guardian blows thing out of proportion.
ARAB SHEIKH, for money, women and power expect any thing from any whare and any one at any cost. they dot have head
Hey, if the Persians can set up defacto states in Hamastan and Southern Lebanon, let's give them a taste of their own medicine - especially if this pile of sand is now an Iranian puppet state. Let's hope it proves successful'
The last country an arab sheik wanting to commit a coup is Israel. the arabs all hate Israel and there is no benefit at all from gaining recognition from the country the arabs hate more than any other in the world. Israel is in not an economic power so there is no profit, Israel is not on his doorstep to provide military support, Israel is not a political power. He needs Arab League recognition and Israel is not a member of the Arab League. Israel has nothing that would be of any use if this guy wants to carry our a coup. Come on Guardian if this story is true how about releasing your source or is this just another work of fiction to sell newspapers?
The guardian replaced the pravda as the most used tissue in the european out-houses...but you would be very surprized to know how many times Israel helped an arab country to survive...It helped jordan's abdullah against the plo, it helped him again against syria,it helped the lebanese christians against the plo and in many other occasions there was an Israeli covert help...
Is that STILL surprising to hear?
From his own rivals to make sure he wont set a foot there.
These days any news that include the name Israel creating big news. Most of these stories are false. Like the spy stories from Lebanon. I would not beliave a word.
If the news comes out of the 'Guardian' it's probably fabricated. The British never stop interfering in other peoples affairs.
PS: the leak is not new BTW, it become public in March 2010.
I am not surprised to know that Israel is involved. Who else with the right mind will do such stupid dirt job. I just love our leaders. They think for today only and hell with tomorow and that's why our image is tainted across the whole world and including our very few friends.
What . You believe everything you read ? And especially something coming out of that paper ! You're being hoodwinked. The Scottish people have a wonderful saying: "Believe none of what you hear,& only half of what you see"
Hmm? :-)
I know ,because I keep a very intelligent bird. It goes to places where no man can go, & whispers the latest news in my ears !
Often seen in a certain place, with plenty of bodyguards. Upon asking who he was, there was just that he is the exiled son of some Sheik that had been offended by certain deeds. Seeking help from Israel.? Doubtful, then again where there is smoke, surely a little candle is burning. Today its snowing, unbelievable in July, more than 80 centimetres, with more to come. So, lets not disbelieve that strange events are in the making. Good day from snowy Swiss Alps.
Sounds like they are trying to make it into an Arabs v's Israel affair Just as Sadaam did, bombing Israel after he invaded Kuwait. Who could they blame for their endless fratricide if they did not have Israel to blame for everything?
They wrote an article about the different conditions on both sides of the wall one time. The Israeli embassy and various high profile Israeli supporters were apoplectic and demanded a meeting with the editor of the Guardian. I guess it's this kind of intimidation and bullying which makes many Western papers be very careful what they report about the Israeli/ Palestinian conflict.
The besmirched reputation of Israel in such matters precludes nothing.
UAE is a joke of a country. Country on paper with a lose bunch of sheikhdoms that call themselves a federation. They cant even find themselves in an empty room if they try to do things on their own. Bunch of hypocrites who are after money and positions.
You forgot to mention what the Guardian actually wrote as opposed to reality. Not unlike when the vast majority is fence calling it a wall. Explains why you like the Guardian "Went apoplectic" could you send a photo?
being beaten by Jordanian police during attempt to demonstrate against Russia because of Tchetchnya..
of Stability in the Middle East. Not the first one to introduce nucelar weapons although has 200 of them , Never interfere with internal affairs of neighbors like the spy scandals in lebanon , never occupy others land , like Shab3a farms , Never assasinate like Mabhouh etc. , never destabilize countries like ras El Kheimeh...Stability indeed....
then follow up with terror attacks, refuse borders then announce the upcoming destruction of Israel Then have the Arab league declare. No peace No negotiations No recognition Acquire weapons of mass destruction Send spies from Lebanon into Israel Then cry innocent victim.
of Stability in the WORLD. Not the first one to introduce nucelar weapons although BLASTED JAPAN, Never interfere with internal affairs of neighbors like CUBA, never occupy others land , IRAQ, VIETNAM, AFGHAN...(shall I go on?) , Never assasinate like anything on WikiLeaks. , never destabilize countries like WHERE SHALL WE START?...Stability indeed.... Not much of a hypocrite, are we Joe?
When you send 7 armies bent on genocide then start several more wars, declare there'd be no peace with the three No's, build up chemical weapons and use terrorist suicide bombers and train your children to hate and carry AK-47s.
How ABSOLUTELY beautiful is Ras El Kheimah. The place is a perfect delight, and were I able I'd move to either of two beautiful places. 1) Israel - without doubt, and 2). Ras El Kheimeh in the Emirates.
Not even worth the bandwidth to disseminate it with.
in Emirates and exert power through the Chosen Ones to Govern. Must have irked them immensely they are not the only game in town ,not even in their own town ,London.
this man has no chance of coming to power - if this story is true, which i dout.
