Report: Iran ready to begin immediate nuclear fuel swap talks

Russia expected to begin loading nuclear fuel into the reactor of Iran's first atomic power station on August 21, despite U.S. sanctions.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Friday his country was ready for immediate talks with world powers over a nuclear fuel swap deal, AFP reported.

According to AFP, Ahmadinejad said Iran was "ready to resume in late August or in early September" talks with the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council over an exchange of enriched uranium.

The United States, the European Union and the UN Security Council have imposed sanctions on Iran over a nuclear program the West suspects is aimed at developing atomic weapons.

Last week, Russia said it will begin loading nuclear fuel into the reactor of Iran's first atomic power station on August 21, an irreversible step marking the start-up of the Bushehr plant after nearly 40 years of delays.

Russia agreed in 1995 to build the Bushehr plant on the site of a project begun in the 1970s by German company Siemens, but delays have haunted the e1 billion project and diplomats say Moscow has used it as a lever in relations with Tehran.

Despite U.S. criticism of the plan, Russia's nuclear chief said Thursday that the startup of Iran's first nuclear power plant will demonstrate that Iran is entitled to peaceful use of nuclear energy under international supervision.

Earlier this week, former U.S. envoy to the United Nations John Bolton told the Fox Business Network that Israel was unlikely to attack Iran's nuclear reactor in Bushehr, which will soon be online, adding that the Russian-built facility represents a major step forward for Iran's nuclear weapons aspirations.

    IRAN REACTOR START UP

As this reactor is starting up, I am realizing that I hate Obama more than Hitler and Ahmadinejad. I never felt a hatred toward an American president before. Please Israel, bomb Iran now, take over the country and don't give the USA one drop of oil - not one.

Iran IS a member of the NPT unlike Israel which REFUSES to join...

What is Israel afraid of ? And why does it REFUSE to join? Because then it TOO will have to comply with IAEA inspections... Time to join the 21st century and join the NPT... Unless they feel comfortable being in the company of other rogue nations like N.Korea, Pakistan, & India which also REFUSE to sign the Nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty... Obviously, they are not really serious about stopping Nuclear Proliferation...

If Iran wants nuclear weapons then they should get them....I wish that North Korea or China would just give them the “bomb" .....and get it over with....no more bla bla bla over this bs.... then the US and israel can go back to bully all the other third world nations

No one is permitted to make nuclear weapons. Not being an NPT member does not mean certain attack. Look at Israel, North Korea, India, and Pakistan; no one attacks their nuke sites. No war is ever justified. People create wars to satisfy their own agenda.

Why Israel will never get any traction on this issue

Israel has a semi-secret nuclear arsenal. They are also expanding outside their borders. In the past four years, Israel has killed more than 2000 Arab civilians. The international community has objected to this behavior and criticized Israel over the years but nobody has the will to take action against Israel. A nuclear Iran will provide a middle east balance of power which is necessary to curb Israels expansionist and aggressive behavior. Although, as a general rule, nobody welcomes another nation gaining nuclear arms. In this case however, this will solve a larger problem which has stymied the world for many years.

Russia can solve the Iranian problem

There is something self-contradictory in Russia's behavior. On the one hand she objects to Iran enriching Uranium even to the low 3.5% level for power plants, and on the other hand supplies Iran with such processed product which allows Iran to keep her stock of Uranium. A good solution for the contradiction would have been for Russia to demand from Iran partial payment "in kind", that is, pay for the fuel bars by giving to Russia the enriched Uranium used to produce them. This should have been acceptable to Iran, after all, they claim that their Uranium is enriched to serve as fuel. The fact is that Iran does not have enough Uranium to run many power plants, so they will run out of the stuff soon enough. Problem solved.

Whether It's A Few Months Or A Year Or More Away, The Boisterous Iranian Regime Is Hyperventilating Over Their Success In Progressing Relatively Quickly On The Two Fronts Of Nuclear & Missile Development, Despite Crippling Sanctions
    • Lavi - Seattle

The Iranian Regime with its growing, abusive military bite over its citizens at home, needs more prominent canines when dealing with international bodies, and having a nuclear arsenal with the associated long-range delivery systems in their diplomatic makeup is the proud profile they will feel most dignified in during any negotiations. Topping their foreign policy agenda is the eradication of the Jewish State by proxy war initially and later with backup by the Iranian motherland, if necessary. Israel is the first slated to face their wrath with others to follow so it is all Israel that should be praying fervently for wisdom and G-d's favor to disrupt and neutralize the evil designs of its enemies.

Or Sign up your kids. Mine, daughter and sons have been in the Persian Gulf repeatedly since 2001. Time for you and the others who have been there by desktop only to make your commitment. You haven't paid a dime in taxes for all the US efforts, nobody has. So it's time to put your bodies on the line. The IDF and French Foreign Legion beckon. Steinitz, the dopey French minister is looking for a few hundred thousand volunteers. France has flattops and airplanes and everything you need to invade. Count on a multi-decade occupation. Between you and your kids, the Israeli right wing and the Swedes and Germans, you should be able to recruit a million troops plus support staff. Good luck getting China's financing.

    The bluff that failed
    • Mark Lincoln
    • 20.08.10
    • 16:28

Last fall, Iran chose to bluff. It announced that it was going to enrich it's own fuel for the Tehran Research Reactor. A single cascade at the Natanz Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant was put to work enriching 3.5% fuel to the 19.75% necessary for the Tehran Research Reactor. The last IAEA report (GOV/2010) details the small amount of Uranium enriched. Even though a second cascade has been brought on line, production is still too low to refuel the Tehran Research Reactor the fuel of which is just about burned out. The bluff, the weakness of which was apparent at the time it was made, failed to work and now Iran is facing a serious shortage of industrial and medical isotopes.

the reactor is a diversion to Irans nuclear program
    • zionist forever
    • 20.08.10
    • 16:10

The reactor will produce plutonium as a by product but the real threat comes from the centrefuges which can enrich uranium to a high enough degree to create a good old fashioned A Bomb. We also have no idea how much uranium has been enriched to weapons grade already. This is nothing but another Iranian delaying tactic. Irans political future is dependent on it getting nuclear weapons to bully its neighbors and the west and after the billions of dollars worth of investment in the program, the sanctions and tough talk we have seen for the past 6 years there is no reason at all to take Iran seriously now. Tell Obama and the west things they want to hear but in reality do nothing but talk nice and act tough.

Yes, Iran will obtain nuclear weapons, even if the mullahs are overthrown. Having spent about a quarter of the nations GDP on obtaining credible nuclear weapons capability, do you really think any Iranian regime would simply throw it all in the trash? Israel has illegally nuclear weapons, so Iran has also right to have nuclear arms to stop Israel.
