Report: Egypt rounds up terror cell plotting attacks on Israel
At least 25 arrested in latest in a series of raids against Islamist groups operating in Sinai Peninsula.
Egyptian security forces arrested Thursday a cell of over 25 people suspected of being part of a radical Islamic group that planned to attack Israeli tourists visiting the Sinai peninsula, Palestinian News agency Maan reported.
According to the report, several of the El Arish residents confessed to belonging to the organization.
In recent months Egyptian forces have made dozens of arrests and uncovered large caches of arms apparently destined for terrorist activities against Israelis.
A series of raids across the Sinai Peninsula, which borders Hamas-controlled Gaza, troops also netted machine guns, ammunition, anti-aircraft shells, artillery shells, anti-tank landmines and large quantities of high explosive.
