Palestinian teen spends 21 days behind bars on false charges

Prosecution ditches case against Beit Hanina youth after CCTV footage proves his innocence.

The Prosecutor's Office declared on Tuesday that it would cancel all charges against a Beit Hanina youth who was held in custody for three weeks on false charges of aggravated assault, after closed-circuit television footage proved that two Border Police officers lied to the court from the start.

It seems like this behavior is universal. We have the same problems here in the US with police sometimes getting over enthusiastic. I have been to Israel and lived there and can only say, it is us Jews who are setting a bad example.

... to film state instituted lying criminals attacking innocent citizens. If a Palestinian minor is taken three weeks into custody on these charges and we now have evidence that border police militia men are guilty of that same crime, will Staff Sgt. Aviv Peretz and Staff Sgt. Yehiel Uziel also be taken into custody? (apart from the elaborate lying to the court) Well, we all know the answer to that question. They will be charged with minor offenses and will spend the entire court procedure in complete freedom, probably won't even be suspended during the criminal hearing and they will be punished with something trivial, like a formal warning. They might even be demoted! Oy-va-voy, that would be really a harsh punishment! How wonderful it is to see so clearly this apartheid system at work. This time hasbara, organised lying in court and blurring of the circumstances by the security services is useless. Let's be honest: if that camera wasn't there, how many years of false imprisonment would Biomi have gotten? How many Palestinians are innocently in prison or just randomly beaten up by those tugs of the border militia men? I advise all Palestinians to put more CCTV in place, to have their film cameras ready when they walk in the streets, ready to film these criminals and to show it to the entire whole world how violent, illegal occupation and apartheid works. The video camera should be the main Palestinian weapon in fighting the occupation. It´s non/violent and doesn´t leave any doubt who the aggressor is and the victim.

  Imagine if the team who raided the Mavi Marmara had been careless enough to let such footage not be filtered through the IDF, it would have been impossible to sell the line about it being self-defence. Even if not officially prosecuted for their carelessness in not following protocol, the message will go out to all the troops, SEIZE THE FOOTAGE

  Prosecutors don't file perjury charges against police. I worked in the DA office in California. They never do!! Even with solid evidence. So sad, but true.
