"If an agreement is not reached, Palestinians will never know the pride and dignity that comes with their own state. Israelis will never know the certainty and security that comes with sovereign and stable neighbors who are committed to co-existence," Obama will tell the UN General Assembly, according to excerpts released ahead of his planned speech on Thursday.
"The hard realities of demography will take hold. More blood will be shed. This Holy Land will remain a symbol of our differences, instead of our common humanity."
Obama expressed deep hope in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and the imminent establishment of a Palestinian state.
"When we come back here next year, we [could] have an agreement that will lead to a new member of the United Nations – an independent state of Palestine, living in peace with Israel."
The U.S. president defended Israel's right to exist, and expressed the United States' support for its ally.
"Those who long to see an independent Palestine rise must stop trying to tear Israel down," Obama said.
"Israel’s existence must not be a subject for debate. Israel is a sovereign state, and the historic homeland of the Jewish people," Obama said. "It should be clear to all that efforts to chip away at Israel’s legitimacy will only be met by the unshakeable opposition of the United States."
Obama condemned the bloodshed surrounding the conflict, and lauded Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas for engaging in talks instead of violence.
"And efforts to threaten or kill Israelis will do nothing to help the Palestinian people – the slaughter of innocent Israelis is not resistance, it is injustice. Make no mistake: the courage of a man like President Abbas – who stands up for his people in front of the world – is far greater than those who fire rockets at innocent women and children."
"The conflict between Israelis and Arabs is as old as this institution… We can waste more time by carrying forward an argument that will not help a single Israeli or Palestinian child achieve a better life…Or, we can say that this time will be different."
Obama is scheduled to deliver his speech to the UN General Assembly at 4 P.M. local time (10 A.M. EDT).

I mean I do not. Nice words about Israel, but some perfid intentions behind. I do remeber his Words about indevied Jerusalem, and then I remeber his deeds the last two years
No way?
I wonder how a man like Obama can make such a one sided and factually incorrect speech, does he not read the worlds press? Did he not read of the Palestinian gunned down in his own home by the Israeli army, did he not read of the Palestinian gunned down by a settler yesterday, did he not read of the many Palestinians killed by Israeli fighter planes/bombers in the last 2 weeks. did he not read of 17 Palestinians being kidnapped from their homes in the dead of night by the Israeli army of occupation? Where is this man comming from no mention of a secure Palestinian state and unlike when Iraq invaded Kuwait Iraq was ordered to retreat or be bombed-out of Kuwait. Why these 'peace' talks ? No country in the world recognises Israels occupation of Palestine. Why no ultimatum to Israel?
...DEMAND of the Muslim-Arabs - not Christian-Arabs, not Druze-Arabs - to accept Israel's RIGHT to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people instead of refusing to do so on ANY parcel of land between the River and the Sea. But Obama must face reality first instead of approaching the matter from a theoretical American-centrist perspective...!! Can he....??!!
"....in accordance with democratic principles, whereby its inhabitants will enjoy complete equality before the law, [and whereby] minorities will be assured of all the guarantees recognised in democratic constitutional countries, and [whereby] the holy places will be preserved and the right of access thereto guaranteed" From the Declaration on the Invasion of Palestine (Israel had just Declared itself no longer a part of Palestine) http://wp.me/pDB7k-ki#democracy-equal-rights
Good, now you can move your embassy to our historical capital Jerusalem.
Israel has never legally annexed ANY territories it's Sovereign boundaries are the same today as when they were Declared May 14th 1948 “…. within frontiers approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations in its Resolution of November 29, 1947, "
Israel was, a long time ago, the homeland of the Hebrews... they have disappeared. Only their faith has managed to spread which is why you have "Russian Jews", "Ashkenazi Jews", US Jews, Yemeni Jews, North African Jews, Ethiopian Jews (seriously, do these have something in common except faith with their "Russian compatriots"!?)... Admit it, there is nothing wrong in believing in Judaism, it is a religion like others, but don't claim you are a "People"... it takes more than faith to form a people... The Russians of Israel are a good proof I find...
in disobedience to all UN resolutions. When Israel pulls back to the Green Line as ordered, then foreign embassies will open in Jerusalem - not one minute before. And quite right too, we can't have one maverick state disobeying the unanimous decisions of the world community. That was how Mussolini started his glorious career (Abysinnia v the league) and look where that breakdown in international authority led us to.
An entity can only declare itself independent when it IS independent. It's why the Declaration of a Jewish State only came into effect AFTER the British Mandate (occupation) ended. " The Act of Independence will become effective at one minute after six o’clock on the evening of 14 May 1948, Washington time" http://wp.me/pDB7k-sa
Too bad that others, who hate the idea of peace, have a stronger voice in the scheme of things.
