Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview on the al-Arabiya television network on Wednesday that Israel is not involved in the unrest currently roiling Syria but that Israel is concerned about the events transpiring in that country.

Netanyahu also said that Israel hopes to establish peace with Syria and that he believes that the young people of Syria deserve a better future.

The regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad is currently attempting to suppress a four-month-old uprising. The Assad family has ruled Syria for four decades.

According to human rights groups, more than 1,600 people have been killed in the crackdown by the Assad regime.
