Netanyahu: Palestinians not interested in solution based on 1967 borders
Prime minister says the events of Sunday, when Syrian protesters attempted to break through the border with Israel, prove that Palestinians are instead interested in a return to 1948 borders.
By Barak Ravid and Natasha Mozgovaya Tags: Naksa Day Syria 1967 bordersThe violent clashes on the border with Syria prove that the Palestinians are not interested in a solution based on 1967 borders, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.
Rather, they are interested in a solution based on 1948 borders, Netanyahu said during a special closed meeting held with the Defense Minister and Israel Defense Forces chief in order to discuss the situation on the border with Syria.
A reported 20 Syrian protesters were killed during demonstrations held on the border to mark Naksa Day, the anniversary of Israel's victory in the 1967 Six-Day War.
The United States State Department responded to the violence by saying that Israel "like any other sovereign nation, has the right to defend itself.”

“We are deeply troubled by the event that took place today at the Golan Heights that resulted in injury and loss of life," the statement said. "We call for all sides to exercise restraint. Provocative actions like this should be avoided."
Netanyahu said that Palestinians are trying to "flood Israel with refugees."
"At the same time, the small Israel absorbed hundreds of thousands of Jewish refugees in 1948. Arab countries have not done a thing in order to absorb and help Palestinians."
Senior officials in Jerusalem placed the responsibility for Sunday's violence on the Syrian police.
"Syria is trying to divert attention from the massacre that [Syria] is carrying out against its citizens with the provocation on the border," a senior official said. "We sent messages in recent days to both Syria and Lebanon. Lebanon prevented the protests, but Syria decided to carry out a provocation."
Hundreds of protesters in Syria attempted to break through the border with Israel near the Druze town of Majdal Shams. Syrian TV reported that up to 20 protesters had been killed by IDF fire and more than 300 wounded in the violent clashes.

The so-called want only one border: no Israel border anywhere! Therefore they will go to the UN and Israel must then annect the whole territories once and for ever. The population will be able to chose to stay and have an Israel Passport or leave for wheeever they wish (at best to Gaza)..
I think Israel deserve very much the 1967 border. Me as an afghan will accept the wright of a secure Israel to exist beside a peaceful Palestine. You both nations are brother. You guys are the children of ISAC & ISMAEL. Just make peace not War. God bless both of you with peace & Love.
For the left, it's not a matter of simple. It supports the underdog and wants to give the Palestinian primitives a state in any case to soothe their conscious and enhance their feelings of humanistic superiority. They are gullible targets of the Palestinian con game to get it all.
as an american citizen and as a jewish person, i like mr netanyahu and israel government understand, the land of israel belong to jews, stop negotiating over jewish land which god gave us, israel was much larger ay the time of king david than today, we want all of our land back fro the bastereds who stole it from us, stop giving away whats not yours, mr netanyahu, the arabs will always ask for more till there is no israel, don't be lame,
Do they mean the 1967 borders before or after the six day war?
What the hell is this buffoon talking about...Syrian and Palestinian refugees which probably make up 5% of the Palestinian population decide this??
who belives this desperate man?
Who is attacking whom? It is not Israel that attacked in 1948, in 1967 and in 1973 and through the years with rockets, suicide bombers, kidnappers, etc. Where and why the desperation? It seems to me that the Palestinians are desperate Netanyahu is telling it the way he sees it but he is not attacking. In contrast the Palestinians are running to the UN, that worthless, impotent body.
Given that the Palestinians are not at all interested in a settlement based on the 1967 borders, despite repeatedly saying so in public, it would be a major Israeli PR-win if Israel were to accept the 1967 borders and the Palestinians then turn this down. Otherwise, given that you (Bibi) take any chance that you can get to tell anyone who will listen that you can never accept the 1967 borders, one might be tricked into thinking that it is Bibi and Israel that does not want a solution based on those borders. Wouldn't that be silly?
that leaves the state of Israel in tact and Jews left alive in it. Any one who doesn't realize that a state is only their first step is blind or agrees with their self-professed aims. The Hamas charter spells it out, word for word. Dan the Israel left read??
Netanyahu is starting to remind me of him.
Good one! Now that you mention it, I get that same vibe.
The only thing the Palestinians and Arabs are interested in is a middle east free of Jews.
so they have settled for a practical solution, and if Israel is smart and quick it would clinch it with them and make it stick
If Netanyahu doesn't come around soon to 67 borders that's what it will be. Still a fair deal for Israel. 50/50 rather than 80/20. The idiocy of Likud is beyond belief. As Obama said: the world is changing quickly.Indeed it is. Message to Israel: change or be left in the dust
I think we must push for Jordan/Palestine to be liberated and made part of the Jewish state as originally was promised and intended.

Perhaps it never occurred to Bibi that this is the shortest route to the Palestinians' homes?
Bibi got a very good point, I wish all the best for the Israeli people , hope that Bibi of yours can stay strong ! dont give my people a finger please as they want the whole hand. keep Strong Israeli please
You are an elaborate zionist troll intended to give the impression that Arabs have any good will towards the zionist entity. or, you are a self hating Arab. which is it?
He makes it sound like he wants the 67 borders as bases for negotiations, but the Pals don't want that.
