By Barak Ravid Tags: Benjamin Netanyahu Palestinians Mahmoud Abbas HamasPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented Sunday on the recent moves by Fatah and Hamas to set up a unity government, saying that Israel would not negotiate with the Palestinians should such a government be established.
"If Hamas joins the Palestinian government we will not hold negotiations with the Palestinian Authority," said Netanyahu in a speech at a conference for Israeli ambassadors.

He added that he is ready to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas anytime, anywhere, in order to renew negotiations.
"The peace process can only advance while maintaining security arrangements, which is becoming more difficult in light of the current situation in the region," Netanyahu added.
Last week, Abbas met with Hamas leader Khaled Meshal in Cairo and set the ground for Hamas to join the Palestine Liberation Organization. During the discussions, Hamas and Fatah decided to form a unity government by the end of January 2012, and that the Palestinian parliament, including both Fatah and Hamas legislators, will begin operating in February.

Why is it that Israel can't negotiate with militaristic Hamas but Palestinians HAVE TO negotiate with militaristic Israel? This is war, how is one the good guy and bad guy? They're both the bad guy. What makes Israel think it's any better than Hamas? If we look at the statistics, more Palestinians have been killed by Israelis than Israelis killed by Palestinians (excluding wars;ie terrorist attacks, airstrikes, small military ops). So would should be weary of negotiating with who.....Who is living in constant poverty and impeccable fear across the entire land of being killed? Israel has to worry about mortar attacks. Palestinians have to worry about hellfire attacks. Which is more precise? Israeli soldiers have to worry about stone throwers and peaceful protesters. Palestinians have to worry about radical settlers and rouge soldiers. Israel is aloud to entice and attack Palestinians but Palestinians aren't aloud to resist occupation and misery? Are all men (but Palestinians) not aloud to the pursuit of happiness? Does it not say in my constitution, that if a government is failing to provide the security for you and your people, that it is your sole duty to overthrow them and replace them with something more suitable? I guess democracy just doesn't exist in some parts of the world. Well, I'm gonna be real right now. There is no such thing as democracy. Most of our congressmen have served 40+ years, and that's where the power resides. The president can't pass anything without the consent of congress. And we have the tenacity to call Assad and Gadhafi dictators. Remember, when you point your finger, there's always 3 pointing right back at you. I'm sure Haaretz won't publish this, and I just wasted 10 minutes of my life that I will never get back <_<. I could have been reading a book...

Hello Dago
dont mess it up....
Netanyahu has stated many times that he would not negotiate with only one faction of the Palestinians and now will not negotiate with a Palestinian goverment containing duly elected Hamas. In other words, he will NEVER negotiate.
they don't negotiate now.
dude give it up
For Israel Hamas is the perfect "terrorist". They hardly do anything at all except sporadic rocket launches that land in the desert. They barely qualify as a resistance. Israel can take this "resistance" to the bank over and over again, getting money and concessions from America, the EU, and the UN. Hamas has long ago renounced suicide bombings and they have, one several occassions, indicated that they would support a peace based on the 1967 borders. I am sure that Israel must be giving money to Hamas in order that they roleplay as a "terrorist" group in order to benefit Israel. This would also explain how Israel does not go after the top echelon of Hamas, except those that may be getting antsy with the arrangement.
Bibi seems to be sleeping. He is already refusing negotiations with Abbas even without Hamas in the government. I think he's being stupid to say that because he just looks like the little spoiled baby who wants to invent any excuses to avoid doing what he should do that is peace. His statement also reminds us of what has happened 4 or 5 years ago when Hamas won the elections. Israel simply rejected Hamas and tried to impose its power to override the power of the people. Gaza war, the siege, the killing, etc..is all Israel's fault because they simply rejected democratic Palestinian elections. Since Hamas and Fatah are making good progress in their talks for conciliation and Hamas is likely to join the PLO and the PA: are we going to witness a new war by Israel against, this time, both the westbank and Gaza? How would the region react? and what would the world do about it? My firm belief is that Bibi and Liberman are not interested in peace. period. I also don't think that they will be "extra" arrogant and decide to launch a war like the recent war. They, I believe, realize well what happens in the region. People are revolts now. Their governments are volatile. Would Israel does something bad; I am not sure. I hope they dont and I hope that both Bibi and Liberman will be out soon and there will be a "chance" for peace!
one does not negotiate with terrorists
you wont be callin the shots when we talk to the plo
you will again
count my words
