Netanyahu: Current Iran sanctions won't curb its nuclear program
PM says further, more effective sanctions must be implemented against Iran's central bank and oil industry; remarks made days after he said Iran beginning to fold in face of pressure.
By Jonathan Lis Tags: Benjamin Netanyahu Iran nuclearPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that the current sanctions imposed on Iran were not effective enough to stop its nuclear program, and called for further sanctions on the Islamic Republic's central bank and oil industry.
"As long as there will not be effective sanctions on Iran's central bank and oil industry, there won’t be any effect on its nuclear program," Netanyahu said during a discussion in the Knesset's Defense and Foreign Affairs committee.

He also warned against Iran's advance into Iraq. "There is a lack of stability and under these circumstances we must strengthen our defense capabilities against aerial and ground attacks," he said.
Netanyahu's statement comes after he actually praised the current sanctions on Iran last week in an interview with The Weekend Australian. In that interview, he said Iran is beginning to fold due to the combination of sanctions and threats of military action on its nuclear facilities.
European officials have worked for several months on banning the purchase of Iranian oil, and are expected to agree to the measures at a meeting of foreign ministers on January 23.
Netanyahu also commented on the current talks with the Palestinians, saying he is prepared to drive to Ramallah and engage in talks with Abbas, but the Palestinian president refuses.
He blamed Erekat for breaking the agreement not to discuss the contents of the talks that have been taking place in Amman in recent weeks, and for raising additional conditions.
"Erekat wants to abandon the January 26 talks, but the Quartet scheduled 90 days for talks," Netanyahu said. "We served Erekat with a 21-point document that anyone would agree to… but Erekat continues to pose conditions."

this, that & the other. He wants a war with Iran, but he cannot control his own country. Half of Israel on strike, cyber attacks, settlers running amok, a third World education system, price tags, what on earth makes him think he can take on Iran?
The good news is that all non-Israelis enjoy it immensely.
occupation, annexation, peace-rejectionism, civilian killings, warmongering etc
since 1947 israel have started some 15 wars. stop this regime now!
Solve the Palestine conflict and abolish Israels WoMD
last week, he said they were working. What a liar.
The sanctions will not work. I never thought i will agree with BB.
Do your war alone, warmonger if you can
Ask the question. "Would Israel be willing to evacuate a major part of the settlements to make way for a Palestinians state?". This question would never be answered by Bibi or any right wing Israeli (except Lieberman). The reason for this is because Israel's actual position on peace is that they are not willing to withdraw from even one major settlement. If settlements were on the table for real, then this Israeli government would immediately fall apart. There would be a settler uprising. There would be many "price tag" attacks. Peace fakery is meant to placate both sides of the issue. The quartet and the leftists are supposed to be happy that peace talks are taking place. The Israeli government and the settlers are supposed to be happy because those talks produce nothing. Not even the smallest iota of peace progress. It is all fakery and everybody knows it is fakery.
The Mullahs in Iran realise they have nothing left to lose so fire off a volley of missiles towards Israel to improve their standing within the Iranian Population. Think General Galtieri's decision to invade the Falklands which you are so keen to remind us about at every opportunity
Machavelian Israel can't live without nukes but all other M.E. countries must do without . And if they try he will bomb them. Sanctions are being targeted at the wrong country to say the least! A FAIR PEACE EVER?
but knowing that he has no US support for military action, it's his second-best plan B.
that in a western ddemocracy Politicians serve the people not the other way around. And as a consequence any Prime Minister openly declaring a war on behalf of Israel will mean the end of their political careers at the next electuion
Israel's policy should have been sanctionned so man times and Bibi has the guts to tell the word what to do ? you wonder why the world despises you ? here's your answer. But you just love to grow that feeling don't you Bibi ? you need it.
Everyone who follows these things knew that Netanyahu's sudden embrace of sanctions and their effect on Iran was fake. As it turns out he was chastized by Obama and forced to utter the abominable words. It is nice to know that he is back in his real self and blasting Obama again. The 21 point agreement , according to Amira Hass, is nothing more than security assurances that israel demands. First among those is total control of the Jordan Valley.
after he said thaat the Iranian thingie was under control and decided that the Israeli civilian population were not sufficiently scared and cowed hence this news article in which he states something which has been blindingly obvious for years. Once the Americans and the British lft Iraq, Iran was always going to increase it's influence by supporting Iraq's shia population. In fact I have stated that the consequence of the invasion of Iraq (done on Israel's behalf incidentally to stop Hussein sponsoring suicide bombings in Israel) that it would create a Shia Caliphate from the Gulf to the Mediterranean. So well done Netanyahu for stating the blindingly obvious as if it is all your own work.
You think you can do a better job ?
To get Bahrein "back" at least, if not "their" whole so well oiled pond.
