Mortar shell from Gaza explodes between two day-care centers in south

Shell, fired from Gaza, causes no injuries and only light property damage; early warning system fails to alert of incoming shell.

A mortar shell fired from the Gaza Strip exploded between two day-care centers in a community in the southern region of Sha'ar Hanegev on Wednesday morning. No one was hurt but some property damage was reported.

Witnesses reported that there were no children in the buildings when the shell exploded, only teachers. The early warning system in the community failed to alert of the incoming shell, channel 10 reported.

On Saturday, Gaza militants fired a Qassam rocket into southern Israel. The projectile exploded in an open area in the Western Negev. No injuries or damage were reported.

These attacks came after a long period of calm, amid U.S.-sponsored efforts to relaunch direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, to which the Islamist Palestinian group Hamas objects. Hamas rules the Gaza Strip.

Israelis must first defeat Barak and drive him from office before they can be safe. His inept and irresponsible leadership is a threat to Israel's security. The first priority should be ending this coward's career. This man is a loser and Israelis should not tolerate a loser, especially to protect them !

The longer Bibi delays the decision of whether or not to deal honestly with Abbas, the more arrogant terrorists will become. Just as the Israeli right loathes and fear peace, Palestinian terrorists know that the creation of a Palestinian state would destroy all credibility they have amongst Palestinians. Those on both sides who want it all are the enemies of everyone else.

Once this is done and there is a terrorist attack on Isralel, I will support Israel to retaliate against such attacks 100 times more aggressive then cast lead. State against state is fair and israel will have the moral high ground.

Golan Heights must East Jerusalem also be returned. As for right of return, that is a big question. I would like to see all refugees have the right of return and compensation but that will not happen (this is the big problem) What I would do is the following All Palestinians who had property and lost it with the property absentee laws should be compensated with money and/or property in israel. They can chose which one. The refugees who take the property in israel should have to pledge loyalty to Israel and serve in the IDF. Current arab isralis should not have to pledge an oath as they are Israeli and but should have to serve in the IDF Jews in the Westbank that decide to stay should also have to pledge an oath to Palestinian and serve in the Palestinians defense force. Arabs in Israel and jews in the Westbank who chose not to serve there respective country or make trouble should be incarcerated with the option to leave the counrty

Once there is no more occupation and a peace agreement that is fair to the Palestinians (the only fair thing that Israel needs in return is security) Once this is in place Israel should have the right to defend itself by all means necessary, Hopefully this is not needed and the two countries can work together for the betterment of both people. The only real obstacle are hamas and the settlers. I would send them to North korea

as an American, I don't understand this at all. A rocket lands between two daycares and Israel either doesn't respond or in response, hits a few empty buildings. If this were Cuba firing a rocket that landed between two daycares in Miami, we'd wipe Cuba out before they could load another rocket. So would any European country...why is Israel held to a different standard? And please don't bring up the alleged "occupation"....children in daycares are not responsible for it.

Gaza would be a parking lot before the end of the week. I know of no new mother of father who would let any elected official have a moment's peace when a genocidal violent extremist group was launching mortars ONCE at facilities where toddlers and pre-school aged children spent their days. There would be no excuses, no wringing of hands, no worries about collateral damage. Instead there would be a huge communal outrcry about the threat that this group made to the children, and its eradication would be demanded, period, end of story. There wouldn't be a second chance for these people. In the United States, baby killers and those who seek to become baby killers are put at the top of the wanted list, and their lives are forfeit.

    • Natallie Durson
    • 08.09.10
    • 14:11

Israel wants expansion, not peace. The problem for Israel is that to be able to continue expansion, they must appear to favor peace but then have the talks fail. This is all that's needed. The strategy has been used before. Simply ignore Hamasand "make peace" with Fatah. This guarantees increased Hamas attacks, and viola, peace talks collapse. Of course, the timing is important. The ideal outcome for Israel is if Hamas actually kills or injures some Israeli. This would prompt a major IDF strike on Gaza and lead to the collapse of the talks. None of this is complicated. Israel is jut playing the goyim. The goyim are allowingthemselves to be played because they are too weak and stupid to force Israel into a sincere peace process.

So what's your take on this? That anything the IDF does, including the sort of massacres that talkbackers here regularly call for, is OK? That the IDF can slaughter civilians without end? Or do you accept that just maybe there are some rules? Killing the perpetrators of this attack is one thing; killing a few Gaza civilians who happen to be available is indeed a crime. It's the same everywhere else in the world - should it be different for the IDF?

your own grandchildren were the subject of a mortar attack near Lewiston. It's so easy to knee-jerk blame Israel about how the IDF will "oblige" rather than realize that an attack on two day-care centers is as heinous an act as their is. You sit here and navel gaze about the "randomness" of the attack and how "Happy" the right wing will be. Such a disgusting attitude. You simply negate the humanity of Israeli children and their right to live without the threat of being turned into pink mist while attending nursery school. This is not about politics, but about protecting one's children, and there isn't a parent alive that would willingly see their kids dragged into a war zone by a racist genocidal terrorist group, which is exactly what HAMAS is.

Would that be justified if another Israeli soldier, like Eden Natan-Zeda, did something similar. Would killing random Israelis then be justified? Maybe it would. That is exactly the logic you both use. In this case, fortunately, nobody got killed. But by your logic, random killing in return is OK.

What is this.? Has the Taliban taken over Gaza.? Or has Hamas decided to follow the rules of engagement so well defined by the Taliban/Al Qaeda.? A word of advice to Hamas, when the Taliban strike, they then quickly disappear into the hills at night. Hamas, has a house and street number, unlike the Taliban. Do not try and kill nursery children, for the wrath of ZAHAL will not be limited to bombing a warehouse less so some tunnels. It appears that rage over the peace talks has no limits. Maybe, some folks are correct in assuming that Hamas must be included in the process, not to believe what certain PA Officials have stated that Hamas can be reigned into the talks at some later stage. Confusing.? Sure.! Good day from cool Swiss Alps.
