Major General (res.) Yair Naveh named next IDF deputy chief
Naveh, who last served as GOC Central Command in 2007, will replace Major General Benny Gantz.
Major General (res.) Yair Naveh has been named the Israel's Defense Forces next deputy chief of staff.
Naveh met Sunday with Defense Minister Ehud Barak and accepted in principle the offer to serve as assistant to the army's new chief, Yoav Gallant.
A formal announcement on his appointment will be issued this weekend.
Neveh retired from the IDF in 2008, after serving in his last position as GOC Central Command. Prior to that, he had overseen the army's Home Front Command, and as a commander of both the Gaza formation and the Givati Brigade.
Neveh is currently the director-general of Jerusalem's light-rail project. As deputy chief of staff, he will replace Major General Benny Gantz, who is planning to retire from his military career in 2011.
