Lieberman has said many times that the conflict between Jews and Arabs is not religious or territorial, but IDEOLOGICAL. Two different nations with very different religions and ways of life will be much better living in separate countries. This has been proven in Cyprus, because there has been peace since the territorial separation. Lieberman's party promotes the idea of territorial swap: a) the major settlements will become part of Israel, and b) the territories primarily populated by Arabs will be passed to the future Palestinian state. This is the fair and peaceful solution. Everyone will be happy - no population transfers, just an honest exchange.

Just look at a map to see how dishonest such a suggestion is.

The freeze matters most in East Jerusalem which under international law and consensus, is Palestinian occupied territory. Israel refuses to stop judaizing the area, promoting jewish expansion and bringing arab construction to a halt. There is an interesting point there. Living there is clearly illegal under GC IV, but it's not so clear about building. So, so long as it is done legally (under Jordanian law rather than Israeli law, by the way), building may be OK. Anyone know anything about Jordanian building law?

The US says that all settlements are illigetimate but that doesn't means that the US govt will take any action regarding them. Lieberman should just keep quiet...and you should to...the land being built is barren and empty. As for its legal status, that's a matter of dispute, which will eventually be resolved. It may not be wise, but it's not thievery.

It is occupied erea. Acording international law any building and colonization in occupied territories by the occupying state is illegal. It is total bigotry when jews think they are above the law.
