Lieberman: If Gaza rocket fire does not stop, there will be consequences
Foreign Minister says Israel does not want confrontation with Palestinians but will not tolerate repeated attacks on its territory; Netanyahu to hold conference call with Defense Minister, IDF chief on escalation in south.

"Israel is not seeking a confrontation with the Palestinians and does not want to escalate the current situation, but it will not tolerate barrage after barrage without retaliating," Lieberman said during a press conference with the president of Republika Srpska on Saturday.

"I hope that already tonight neighboring countries and the international community will intervene to put a stop to the rocket fire," he said. "If the rocket fire does not stop, there will be immediate consequences in the coming days."
A barrage of rockets hit southern Israel on Saturday evening, lightly wounding two people.
The rocket attack came hours after an IDF strike on the Gaza Strip that killed five Islamic Jihad militants.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to hold a conference call with Defense Minister Ehud Barak and IDF chief Benny Gantz to discuss the escalation in the south.
The Foreign Ministry Director-General Rafael Barak instructed Israel's envoy to the United Nations, Ron Prosor, to submit a complaint to UN chief Ban Ki-moon demanding the UN strongly condemn the rocket fire from Gaza into southern Israel.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman said a similar demand was made of key countries in the European Union and the Mideast Quartet.

Any Israeli who was foreign minister would now be saying the same thing. It is just a tragedy it is Lieberman, rather then someone who can command some respect beyond an extremist constituency.

Lieberman does not control the IDF, which Barak does, nor even the Shin Bet or Mossad which answer to Netanyahu. Thus, Lieberman cannot issue threats on his own. It is true that Lieberman has influence in the government, but his influence is mostly in the area of what steps should NOT be taken rather than on what steps should be taken (since everybody knows his ideas are just too brute). So as Lieberman's teacher, Stalin said: no divisions, no power to his threats.
But think how many price tagger's he has at his disposal, not forgetting the embeded ultra's in the ranks of the IDF
It appears that the IAF started this round by assassinating a group inside Gaza. That is never done with impunity. That invites rocket fire every time. So why did the Israeli government choose now to invite a round of retaliatory strikes?

Israel attacked a group of Islamic Jihad militants planning more rocket attacks on Israeli cities, Israel attacked as a retaliation for rockets that fell into Israel on Thursday, so if you want to begin an "Israel started it" type thing maybe get your facts straight first. Whoever "started it", it should not continue as many civilians will die or be hurt as a result of an escalation.
The international community could not intervene to stop settlement expansion. If they could that that may also stop the rocket fire. Israel provides a continual provocation with settlement expansion. They should not be surprised to encounter sporadic resistance. They should count their blessings that the resistance is so feeble rather than make threats.
