Jerusalem mufti faces harsh Israeli criticism for incitement against Jews
Mufti Mohammed Hussein says his remarks at a Fatah rally last week were taken out of context.
By The Associated Press Tags: Palestinians Islam Benjamin NetanyahuThe Palestinians' top Muslim cleric is facing harsh Israeli criticism for quoting a religious text that includes passages about killing Jews.
Mufti Mohammed Hussein said his remarks at a rally for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement last week were taken out of context and that he didn't incite people to kill Jews.
The comments from the rally were posted to YouTube by an Israeli watchdog group tracking incitement.
In the video, the mufti cited a hadith, or saying attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, that the Earth's end of days will not happen until Muslims kill Jews in a religious battle.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday condemned the comments as "heinous."

Mohammed hussein and other mufties, like the one who backed hitler, are those who will rule the pretended Palestinian state?
hyper religion is killing all of us.
Like a certain rabbi in Israel.
How so many Israelis excuse influential Shas party members who incite for the killing of goy, yet condemn this man.
If he says he was misinterpreted, just what did he mean to say?
Mufti Mohammed Hussein & Rabbi Ovadia Yosef should be put in ajoining padded cells.
radical statements by radical rabbis are condemned b normative Judaism quickly and explicitly. try to find ONE Palestinian rep who will condemn this statement...
when Rav ovadia Yossef delivers such statements, the response is like a knee jerk reaction from those who have a back bone. Apparently , some people who I assume lean towards the left in this forum are too afraid to speak up and act the same way the religious public does when asked to criticize a rabbi.
nope.
Jews and Arabs are more alike than not. Both have their extremists and their moderates. In making comparisons it should be like against like and you will see this is true.
I went shopping yesterday, and had to decide whether to buy apples or oranges. The comparison had to take place, and was actually not as difficult as some people seem to believe. Life is full of much more difficult comparisons that nevertheless have to be made - e.g time against money when deciding whether to fly or take the train.
... to have assumed that the PA, PLO and their spiritual leaders have any desire other than to kill the Jews. But we can take comfort in knowing that while Jews are at the top of the Muslim murder list, next come all the other infidels. European liberal Jew haters will not get a free pass.
a link to the FULL speech would be useful so we can judge ourselves......
When Mufti learns to love his children & his people more than he hates Israel then maybe we will have peace. He should promote peace not hate.
Spewing out threadbare sound bites from discredited politicians does not, will not and cannot move the dialogue forward in any meaningful way. I can only conclude that you believe the current status quo is dependent on movement from ones side alone, a bit arrogant isn't it?
Of more interest is how all will deal with the Ten Commandments - if they are "religious"
