So according to this article, Baskin said that Jabari received "a draft of a permanent peace agreement" only "hours before he died." Left unanswered were the following: 1) Isn't RECEIVING such a draft far different than agreeing to one? There have zero indications that anyone in the Hamas leadership is anywhere close to accepting any sort of a PERMANENT peace with Israel. 2) What were the details/conditions of this agreement that Jabari "received"....what did it say about the so-called right of return? About Hamas' ability to continue to rearm itself with ever longer range missiles during this supposed permanent truce? If Baskin has seriously addressed these issues I am unaware of it. But what I am aware of is Hamas' continuing - and deeply held - commitment to "liberate" ALL of "Palestine." Why this is such a difficult concept for people like Baskin to comprehend is beyond me.

the violence in southern Israel and Gaza won't resolve anything and can't be ignored either. If Israel has approached the PA recently with provisional borders, etc. which is a staged process, why are they not utilizing the mechanisms with Hamas and factions in a staged process - a start with a permanent truce agreement would have achieve this. What's happening is another cycle of warfare against one another. The problem is that Hamas has to be included indirectly with these negotiations because they're not going away.

If what Baskin says is really true, then the Hamas leadership that was preparing for a permanent truce agreement made the strategic mistake of supporting the firing of more than 80 missiles into Israeli territory over the last few weeks. They could have spared many of these same lives by ceasing the missiles while they considered drafts of this truce by reducing their violence, which lead to the Israeli response.
