Israeli official: Report of Mossad agents posing as CIA spies 'absolute nonsense'
Senior Israeli government official issues complete denial of Foreign Policy report that Mossad agents posed as CIA officers to recruit Pakistani terrorists to carry out attacks in Iran.
By Amir Oren Tags: Iran nuclear Israel spy Israel US Jonathan PollardA senior Israeli government official has called "absolute nonsense" a Friday report in Foreign Policy that Mossad agents posed as CIA officers in order to recruit members of a Pakistani terror group to carry out assassinations and attacks against the regime in Iran.
Quoting U.S. intelligence memos, Foreign Policy's Mark Perry reported that the Mossad operation was carried out in 2007-2008, behind the back of the U.S. government, and infuriated then U.S. President George W. Bush.
Perry quoted a number of American intelligence officials and claimed that the Mossad agents used American dollars and U.S. passports to pose as CIA spies to try to recruit members of Jundallah, a Pakistan-based Sunni extremist organization that has carried out a series of attacks in Iran and assassinations of government officials.
Israel generally refrains for responding to reports on alleged Mossad activities. However, in the wake of Perry's report as well as the official U.S. condemnation of the killing of an Iranian nuclear scientist in Tehran earlier this week, Israeli officials were quick to issue a complete denial of the report.
The concern was that leaving Perry's report without a response would revive tensions that existed between the U.S. and Israeli intelligence communities following the Jonathan Pollard affair in the 1980s. Pollard was sentenced to life in a U.S. prison after being convicted of spying for Israel.
The senior Israeli government official said that if there were any truth the claims in Perry's report, Meir Dagan, the head of the Mossad at the time of the alleged operation, would have been declared a persona non grata in the U.S. and that "Dagan's foot would not have walked again in Washington".

It doesn´t make any difference. Both are twine naughty brothers who love to play the same game.
It takes only to read his blog to get whay he fabricated this. Israel has officially denied it, because it's better not to leave this kind of slander unanswered.
Does this report border on truth or fiction. Believe me I am 100% behind the Mossad for all the protection they afford Israel. A close study of Mark Perry does show a hint of bias based on the fact he was a close advisor to Arafat and his slight obsession with Israel.
Israel would never lie to the rest of the world, right? ROTFLMAO Remind me again, how long did they deny Pollard was a spy?
Who else is supporting Jundullah then? lol too rich!
Let me tell you all here this: NO POINT ACCUSING MOSSAD.Why? Because they are all working hand in hand ...MI5 , CIA,, Deuxième Bureau ...ALL OF THEM DO IT.Read the last paragraph The US is keeping MUM why is that? Because it goes with the job of ESPIONAGE.. If Israel is NOW denying it of course.Does anyone think Haaretz knows the REAL intricacy of espionage....NO, they merely write what is news worthy & convenient.
that's what I expected to hear.....that's what I would say too if I were a goverment official
These are exactly the kinds of things that the Mossad is paid to do. If they don't do these things then what good are they? Is the automatic denial of Israel's supporters due to the large percentage of blunders resulting from Mossad activity?
Like when a soccer club denies a player is on the transfer list then he goes the next week. The fact he felt moved to issue a denial means it is most likely true, otherwise say nothing.
An official from some nation accuses the Mossad of this or that. Israel's right wing talkback support immediately issues denials, as if they actually had a cllue. We have seen this pattern many times. Is this an automatic conditioned response, like Pavlov's dogs? I have never seen a right wing Israel supporter admit that something appears to be a Mossad effort. It is as if the Mossad never budges from their chairs. As for Pavlov's dogs, do they think to have any credibility except to other dogs?
Its about your colonial policies, and the beginning of the end
to have those information spread, for example. Then you can name it antisemitism.
I wonder if it would sadden American politicians to know that their great love and dedication for Israel was not returned.
Easy enough. The report is obviously true. First, given the past modis operandi of the Mossad, this falls right in line. Second, the fact that an Israeli official denied it makes the validity of the report very credible. And third, every Israeli official and government leader is a liar. Case closed.
Mossad agents: "Hi, there! We are US spies! Don't believe? Look at our passports and see how much bucks we have!" Jundallah: "You are welcomed, brethen!"
The problem with Israel is not simply that it is a problem. Lots of nations are problems. The problem with Israel is that it has always been a problem from day one and it will always be a problem. Now that's a problem!
You know that the Obama administration is about to hit Israel with something bad when they start "softening" the target to muster public opinion and support. The shallowness and duplicity, and total disregard for the truth, turns the stomach. Watch the other hand. Israel has no friend in Obama but Jews will still vote for him as if voting for a party that does not have "democratic" in its name is like selling ones soul to the devil. Hello ....Obama is nothing close to a democrat.
Afterall they still deny using fake British Passports for the purposes of murder in Dubai. Of course they are going to deny using fake US passports to recruit people to murder people in Iran
they thought if they came out and categorically denied that the us was not involved in the demise of the nuclear scientist, they would achieve two goals: one, get brownie points from iran, and two, deflect the blame on israel. these two have failed miserably. iran, being evil but not stupid, claims that their scientist was killed by the cia/us. had these two kept quiet, nothing much would have happened. but wanting to be so very smart, much harm has been done to the us, to israel, and who knows who else. arrogance never pays.
well as a staunch pro-Israel supporter that's one trait you're fairly familiar with isn't it?
I cannot believe that Haaretz, which used to be a reliable newspaper, is lowering itself to this level. According to all these "experts", Mossad is responsible for every crime on the planet which includes the trained sharks from 2010 and the vulture-spy which was captured over Saudia Arabia last year. Believe me - the Mossad is good but so is the CIA and every other secret service unit in the west. Everyone has a finger in the pie and the CIA has more fingers than most. It saddens me that Haaretz has lowered its standards to this level of gossip mongering.
The only observation I have, is that the CIA is not as good in humint as European agencies or the Mossad. It's leading people are insular, and have a chronic lack of natural knowledge of other cultures, while a childish expectation to find refuge in their own one, when overseas.
Thank you for your service
both love to create crimes and kill many innocent people in the World. What goes around, comes around!
Peter, you obviously don't know what you're talking about! Laurence of Arabia? The bloke who helped create Israel through lies and treachery used/aided Arab Muslims to kill other Muslims!! There are plenty of other examples. I never liked your posts but they did contain some genuine arguments however the one above is just plain ole BS!
There was no such things before the existance of the zionist entity. All Muslims ills today is zionist conspiracy. Divide and Rules policy works well in troublemaker israel.
judging by your previous posts.
What funny little games they play!
create terror in the World and kill innocent people just to please their love to bloodshed. They have no moral or human feelings.
in 2008 bush signed a secret order authorosing covert operations in iran. hundreds of millions of dollars were allocated for this covert war. read article by sy hirsch in the new yorker, 2008.
If you do it,I promise to show the proofs that murders of Iranian scientists was an inside job executed by those who are worried about the future of their country if crazy Ahmadinejad gets nukes.I know full well it was an inside job, che.Believe me.:))) Fool :-/
Why doesn't Haaretz publish his background?
unnamed cia sours is what the story based on. probably not true.
Do your duty
perry's claim that the mossad, acting as cia officers, recruited jundallah terrorists mostly in london is patently untrue. jundallah, a sunni radical group, is pakistani and their members live in pakistan. indeed, the terror attacks attributed to jundallah are in the nature of the usual terror attacks carried out by such terror groups, such as blowing up shia mosques, kidnapping iranian border guards, etc...israel would not be interested in such activities which would not harm iran's nuclear capabilities. other countries, who might have a broader interest in destabalising iran, might use jundallah, though this is not proven. perry specifically stated that there is no evidence whatever that mossad was involved in the sabotage and killings in iran of late. yet he still attempted to point the finger at israel. since perry admits that there is no evidence pointing to israel, he should retract his article. the question is whether mark perry acted on his sole initiative when he wrote this article in foreign policy magazine, or whether others had encouraged him to do so. this last question is the most important one. if perry acted alone, then he is a rogue operator. however, if perry was induced to write this article by third parties, then there is a larger conspiracy to undermine israel's national security and to besmirch her intelligence services.
I enjoyed your non-denial as premised on which groups harm Iran in which ways and how those injuries are beyond Israeli interests.
whether he did so freely or under duress, is not known.
Waterboarding is humane compared to Iran's torture record. Go to HRW or Amnesty International or other sources.
"if perry was induced to write this article by third parties, then there is a larger conspiracy to undermine israel's national security and to besmirch her intelligence services." I think that's the most important question. However, he was Arafat's advisor during the second intifada 2000 - 2004 and it only takes reading his blog to smell the same age-old hatred.
Balochistan.....isn't that Balochistan that Iran, the country that never invaded or occupied,is presently ehm.....occupying???
And even cofirms that announcing that for the benefit of Great israel is able to make any crime andujustice ( Liberty, "mistakes" in secret killings., UN representative killing and thousands of minor crimes )
The only true "strategic asset" America can trust in is Pakistan's ISI, :)
Mossad is in the business of defending Israel at whatever cost. ISI is deep into expording the Madrassa youth to spread Jihad, and protect them, in a duplicitous game, from America. Pakistan is a hotbed for anti-American hate; Israel is not.
israeli spies were never caught with foreign passports. indeed, no israeli spies were caught at all. and of course, that case, in which a person or persons knocked off a hamas terrorists has nothing whatever to do with the present situation.
used other people's pasports from other countries to avoid being caught. Because of the hatered toward Jews. They were afraid of using a pasport issued in Israel. They would have been killed on the spot. You clowns sure don't do anything to help your situation any.
Just google for "mossad agents foreign passport" and you will find a lot of cases where Israeli spies have been caught with fake foreign passport. Surprised?
