Israeli family 'breaks into' Jerusalem home centered in ownership controversy
The group of Jews have documents proving they purchased the building and were the rightful owners, but Palestinians claim it is their own.
Tags: Israel news Jewish WorldA group of Israelis on Thursday broke into a building in Jerusalem's Old City to which they have documents proving their ownership, but a Palestinian family claims as its own.
The Israelis broke down the doors of the two-floor, 11-room building while most of the family was not there. Only one Palestinian had stayed behind and fought attempts to evict him, the Israelis said.
They claim they had purchased the building from someone who lived in it.
The building is situated in the Muslim quarter of the Old City, about 300 meters from the Temple Mount/Holy Sanctuary plateau, which houses the al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites.
It is also the most sacred site in Judaism as it contains the ruins of the Jewish Biblical Temple.
Palestinian neighbors said the Qirrish family owned the building and had for 15 years been embroiled in a court battle against settlers' attempts to take it over.
The family said Jerusalem's district court had ruled in its favor and therefore expressed surprise at the settlers' takeover of the building, allegedly under police protection and without a court order.
A police spokesman told the German Press Agency dpa that the group of Jews who took over the building had presented documents to the police, which he said indicated they had purchased the building and were the rightful owners.
The police had taken the documents and were checking their authenticity, he continued.
Israel captured East Jerusalem along with the rest of the West Bank from Jordan in the 1967 Six Day War. Before that, Jews had no access to the Old City, located entirely in East Jerusalem, or any of its holy sites.
Ultra-nationalist Jewish organizations have for years been trying to purchase buildings in the Muslim quarter of the Old City and elsewhere in East Jerusalem.
Around 3,500 settlers live in some 75 "outposts" in the Muslim quarter under special security measures.

More evidence of the true trash of Israel...the settler scum, and their financial enablers in the US.
This is just like the "Naqba", when the Arabs were selling land to Jews and then tried to take it all back again in a war that backfired. You can't have it both ways. All I know is that real estate transactions everywhere in Israel are extremely laborious especially if there is a conflict. It is not hard to believe that the "new owners" have been trying to move into this house for years. At the end of the day though, ownership papers are ownership papers, and renters have to move at the owners whim. Even if the owner is a Jew.
Jake and Avi seem to have a problem with history and think it's it ok to make it up as they go along. It would suggest that read Benny Morris's books as I am sure they will accept the work of such an illustrious Israeli historian. He gives accounts of the ethnic cleansing carried out by Israeli forces in the 1948 war. It is indisputable !
I am embaressed to be Jewish when I read the stories of these rightwing fanatics abusing and brutalizing Palestinians.
if you are actually a Jew. there is no need for your shame. it is a legal battle for property, such as happens everywhere in the world. get over yourself.
towards the Jews. theses Jewish settlers are NOT the true owners of the land. the only real owners are the Palestinians and the Semitic Jews. Israel is an Illegal state.
Backing these thieves I expect. I just wish to God we would see the same thing from the palestinians who owned homes in Talbia and Katamon pull the same thing as these Temple Mount thugs!
israeli policy
And no matter what an Arab does , squattering illegally , not paying rent for decades , even murdering ....he is always right . It is true , a Jew is always guilty before proven guilty . I learned this while growing up in E.Europa after the war .
Papers can be forged as we all know too well. The district court ruled in the Palestinians favor! This will be spun in such a way that even the court ruling will not matter in the end. This is how your society functions.
How hard could it possibly be to doctor up paperwork when your gov't backs every move?
Terrorism against Palestinians continues. This happened in Hebron and many other areas. The rule of law is ignored by the IDF and Israeli police when it comes to controlling settlers. The IDF and the Israeli police ignore court rulings repeatedly. Palestinians are constantly under attack with very little protections.
Home in arabic is maskan, the roots of this word come from sakina which mean peace solitude and calmness... if you take maskan(home) you take peace out of me! the problem is not only where to cock and to sleep but where to have peace? what shall these people explain to there children? not only the Israeli settler but also the Palestinian. if you have children give them better future, DO NOT grow hate in this country we have enough, lets start to grow something else than hate...
It's hard to imagine the Israeli police would allow Arabs to break into a Jewish home and evict the Jews and then leave them there while the police went off to look at the ownesrhip document.
then Israel say lets talk peace what peace is netanyahu talking about be for real
First, there is no evidence of a "Jewish Biblical Temple", either there or elsewhere. Ask any archeologist. Second, this is person-to-person fascism and will be met by the appropriate response, such as Nuremberg trials for the settlers and their Israeli government supporters.
The Muslims just randomly decided to settle in an area and call it Jerusalem/Al Aksa and the fact that that exact area was also the homeland of another religion with ruins of their sacred sites was nothing but pure coincidence. To think Muslims would build a Mosque over another religon's hoyl site? Unbelieveable!
My family inlaw has documents from the turkish tabu that they own 50 dunam (1000 square meter) but the state of Israel took it. We know we do not stand a change in (israeli) court. SO WHAT IS THE SAME ???? Think before you open your mouth !!!!!!!!
You ask the UK to turn London over to Eire and I'll take you seriously.
have papyrus from over 4000 years ago.
3000 years old, huh? SHOW THE WORLD THAT SUPPOSED PAPER THEN!!!!! What a beligerent, nonsensical thing to say. Myths, fabels and legends have no place in reality my friend.
if this isnt jackboot fascism what is ? these religious nuts should be punished
I didn't know owning property and defending your rights to that property means you're religious.
Case closed. I expect people to cry due to the owner's Jewish beliefs.
Papers are important evidence. But the proof that something is yours is a court order. If the court has supported the Palestinians, this is robbery. And are the Jerusalem police experts in property law?
The police are only acting on court orders in property disputes. If you would understand property law better, you wouldn't offer your automatic support for Arab land thieves.
Documentary proof - like all those forged foreign passports? Typical....
It's alot more proof than a few rusty 'keys' which you think are all the proof in the world they own houses in Israel. Why the hypocrisy?
What about the a two year old court order to evict settlers that police refuse to implement!
In 1948, the Jordanians booted the Jewish population out of East Jerusalem and gave the stolen land to a bunch of Arab squatters. Jews own much of the land that these squatters live on. Perhaps the "Palestinians" should practice what they preach?
The number of arabs kicked out of their homes so heavily outnumbers the Jews that were "kicked" out........let say they do a swap and see what happens!
Actually, Jerusalem was a mostly Jewish city a century ago. Hebron is the oldest Jewish city, now almost perfectly Judenrein. Shilo'ach and what is now called Sheikh Jarrah were Jewish neighborhoods until 1948, just like so many other neighborhoods. As in other cities, Arabs evicted, expelled or massacred Jewish residents and since then claimed that they were always Arab cities. These Arab claims have been proven false in court. Repeatedly. You don't get it yet, do you?
Hebron contains illegal settlers protected by the IDF and thousands of Palestinians who are held captive by the settlers needs.
expelled the jews and somehow distributed the jewish properties to new owners, arabs of course. However, at about the same time we took over the Katamons, Ein karem etc, etc. Should we give it all back to their previous owners? If we do we'll be the losers, so better leave things as they are.
Hence the vast Jewish majority of what is called "West Jerusalem." Sheikh Jarrah was never a Jewish neighborhood. Reference: Martin Gilbert's history of Israel.
There are Jews in Hebron today living in their GRANDPARENTS' homes. Those houses were never sold, even if Arab squatters moved in in 1948. These Jews are NOT "settlers", and certainly not "illegal". Your claim of Arabs "held captive" is also non-factual. They create traffic jams in JERUSALEM most every day. What kind of 'captivity' is that? (Hebron Arabs are also responsible for loads of property and violent crime in Jewish neighborhoods, but anarchist apologists for the Pals don't care about law and order...)
On Jewish holidays the Palestinians of Hebron have to stay in their houses under curfew for days at a time...I'd call that being held captive, now wouldn't you?
"The family said Jerusalem's district court had ruled in its favor and therefore expressed surprise at the settlers' takeover of the building, allegedly under police protection and without a court order. "
I would be sooooo mad if I came home to a settler sleeping on my bed, using my computer and eating my left over chicken n rice. I'd like to see how this story plays out...
As it is theirs, or are you racist since they're Jews?
You see, with a name like yours you could be the President of the US and still be suspected of being a Jew-hater, Islamist, Hitler or whatever. But if you get mad because a settler takes over your house, even though an Israeli court has acknowledged this house to be yours - that would be confirmation that you are indeed an anti-Semite and Israel-basher, a squatter and terrorist. So don't ever get mad. Let's see how this story plays out, and whether Israel has indeed gone mad
Your critical thinking seems to be a bit askew...
In both Israel and the illegally occupied territories, the police escort and protect the thieves. That is, as long as the thief is a Jew and the victim is a Pal.
The Palestinians who were illegally inhabiting the house were not arrested.
Arab squatters who took over homes of Jews who were massacred or expelled from Jew-free Arab towns are NOT legal owners of the property they have stolen. The police, under court order, protect the rightful owners, i.e. those who have clear documentation of ownership. Just like in any other country. Do you have a problem with Jews owning homes in Israel? Is it legal for Jews to own homes in YOUR hometown? It isn't any different in Israel.
Do read the story. Watch for the words 'court' and 'police'. Then think about whether the courts in Israel are run by Arabs, and the police by Jews, or what else could explain the discrepancy in judgment of who is the rightful owner of that house.
The Jews illegally inhabiting occupied land since the 1967 war still have not been arrested. You people only know how to take, nothing more. Give back what does not belong to you by moving back to your 1967 borders and ask for your neighbors' forgiveness. Peace out!
let's suppose what you're saying is true. Aren't there palestinian homes in west jerusalem being occupied by jews?
here in america, we are declining loans to anyone who has a jewish last name. we dont want you here either. we dont want america to turn out like palestine.
