Israel to UN: Tomorrow will be too late for action against Iran
Israel's envoy to the UN Ron Prosor levies harsh criticism at the Security Council, saying it is obsessed with Israel and ignores crimes of other countries.
By Shlomo Shamir Tags: UN Iran Israel Iran UN Security Council"The Arab world is in flames and the Security Council is dealing with construction permits in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank)," Israel's United Nations envoy Ron Prossor said in a speech at the UN Security Council on Tuesday.
Prosor used the Security Council's monthly meeting on the situation in the Middle East to direct harsh criticism at the body.

"The obsession with Israeli and the ignoring of countries where civilians are tortured and killed undermines the credibility and calls into question the relevance of the Security Council," Prosor said.
"Iran's efforts to develop nuclear weapons represent the greatest threat to peace and security in the world," Prosor said. "The silence of the Security Council will be very costly. You must act today. Tomorrow will be too late."
"The thought of Iran equipped with nuclear weapons should take sleep from the eyes of Security Council member states," Prosor said. "The international community cannot stand by idly while the Ayatollah's regime works to combine extremist ideology with nuclear technology."
Prosor also attacked the Security Council for its silence on continued rocket fire at Israel from the Gaza Strip. He mentioned a letter he sent to the council protesting the rocket fire.
"But we have still not heard condemnation from the Security Council or the Palestinian Authority," Prosor said.
On UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's expected upcoming visit to Israel, Prosor said: "I hope that the Secrtary-General's visit will provide a new perspective on the real barriers to peace and security in the region and illuminate the true problems of terror, extremism and incitement in our region."

Yet it doesn't want to fight it.
Does that mean that in 24 hours we can quit worrying about Israel's saber-rattling?
Unfortunately it is the audacious and hypocritical self-righteousness of prosor and the Israeli extreme right currently in power that is responsible for increasing antisemitism around the world. The continued subjugation, humiliation and occupation of the Palestinians whilst preaching to the rest of the world is contemptible to day the least. As an ashamed Israeli I say that only an extensive embargo against Israel will help to humble her and change this policy of abusive domination. If only America would realize this ....
The UN may appear to some as a grand and noble institution but to all those who post on this site accusing Israel of flouting UN resolutions, let them ask themselves these questions; 1.why should Israel take the UN seriously when the UN itself cannot act fairly and bona fide amongst the Nations of the World? 2. why does the UN not denounce by way of resolution the untold numbers of state killing of Moslems by Moslems? Moslems only seem interested in denouncing Israel but where Moslems kill Moslems they generally look the other way, and the UN General Assembly , in the pocket of the Moslem world does the same. Saddam murdering the Kurds, as well as his own people, the Iran/Iraq War, Assad of Syria killing and torturing his own people, to cite but a few examples . Surely it is obvious even to those blinded by prejudice , that the UN will target Israel whenever prompted to do so by the vast Moslem lobby. The ongoing plight of the Syrian people is dire, yet the UN turns a blind eye, pays lip service to Assad’s brutality and chooses yet again the easy option, Israel and the settlements . Maybe one day the Arabs will ,in Golda Meir’s famous words ‘start to love their own children more than they hate ours’ which may lead to the UN becoming a ‘grand and noble institution’ rather than a ‘theatre of the absurd’
The envoys priority should be the crimes of his own country. Otherwise we must assume that the tries to hide or belittle them by finger-pointing in the other direction.
What if the Security Council's meeting would have been held a few day earlier, last Friday, January the 20th? That day was the 70th anniversary of the Wansee conference, when the Final Solution was planned. Can you imagine what prosor would have said about the shame of the UN persecuting the poor Jews? Instead, he was reduced to diverting attention to the Iran problem which the West only recently has done something about. What a shame!
You have nuclear weapons, go straight ahead and attack Iran YOURSELF!!!
...invaded Iraq, attacked Pakistan, invaded Afghanistan, bombed Libya, use drones for extra judicial killings in Yemen..... but consider Israeli crimes against humanity as "unhelpful to peace process".
Everybody knows that both America and the UN are taking actions as if Israel has written the script. Still, eveyone can always do better and it is not in the nature of Israeli officials to act as if they are pleased. Proser is having a little fun at the UN as you can plainly see in the photo.
For Syria, for Libya, for Tunisia, for Afghanistan, for Iraq, for Pakistan, for Saudi Arabia, for Egypt, for Burma, for Sudan, for Somalia, for Sri Lanka, for Bahrain, for Afghanistan, for East Timore and for what is about to happen to Iran when Syria goes under and they dig out the dead bodies of Women and children in their thousands as you scream, "Israel"
haha what a joke, UNSC have never sanctioned Israel and are obsessed with Iran.
Damn! Ron Prosor has lost weight!!! Wonder how he did it....
Israel is like a broken gramophone record. It needs to get it through its head that NOBODY is interested in going to war with Iran to preserve Israel's military hegemony in the Middle East or provide it with a new diversion from peace fakery with the PA. Netanyahu is boring the world to death on this one. Israel is a rather small country opining rather too much about what everyone else should do. If Israel is so keen on striking Iran, get on with it, let's see how you fare with air strikes on defended underground targets 1,000 miles away - and the repercussions that will surely come follow for Israel. Anything but listen to Israel boring the pants off the rest of the world with its little nationalist hobbyhorse.
than a sound-piece of radicalism. Propagating islamic homicidal agendas and hate toward the ONLY prosperous democracy in ME.
Someone should remind Prossor that it's not the AIPAC Conference he's talking to. Israel has completely ignored 100 UN resolutions and continues to break international law every day on the West Bank. That is why the UNSC is on Israel's case about settlements and land theft and should have long ago been imposing harsh boycotts and sanctions against it to make it comply. Who does Israel think it is criticising the UN for upholding international law regarding Israel's criminal actions? What impertinent chutzpah from the Israeli representative.
How about this minute, next minute will be too late. The one Nation alone has become the sole threat to peace in the entire world.
The UN is not obsessed with Israel, but it does hold special status due to the sheer number of resolutions it is allowed to ignore. It professes to be a democratic nation, but there are very few democracies that occupy other peoples as Israel does, or possess undeclared nuclear weapons programs. Israel is governed by politicians on the right and extreme right, who honestly believe that settlement of occupied land is their birthright, who have no qualms about bombing densely populated cities or bulldozing the houses of innocents. Israel is not the UN's biggest problem, and for Prosor to call it obsessive is quite frankly narcissistic. Your country is simply one of many that regularly flout human rights and international conventions of war, and you are no different from the Ayatollahs by using religion to justify your transgressions.
Israeli politicians must have gonads the size of smart cars! The place should have walked out on his speech!
You get the badmouthing from somewhere and take it as fact. You are wrong.
Does it ring a bell in you?
If you just partially comprehend the danger of iran nuke ambitions you would of shut up and supported Israel.
It is by threatening Iran that the US and Europe are taken actions against Iran.... Yes sanctions are the solutions but they have to be effective.
This is why the world has such a problem with the Jewish state, its utter, in-your-face mendacity.
world has problem with you and your way of thinking. Israel is stunningly prosperous and highly connected specifically in HIGH TECH INDUSTRY. You are envious and that just it....
resources assets and alliances. Survival of the fittest !
This must be the current diagnosis for the current Israeli government. Yesterday, they were praising the US and EU for sanctions on Iran and for the US re-entry of TWO NUCLEAR CARRIER battle groups into the Persian Gulf. Now none of that is enough. Somebody get the white jackets. Time to put this government under restraint. It is at best bipolar and way off its meds. Or maybe it is time for the Israeli electorate to force feed the meds.
We will drive Iran into a corner. The same corner as Pakistan and China etc, by the way. And when they are in that corner they will say "Don't worry about oil supplies. Don't worry about attacks from us"?
Ron Prosor, you may be right by saying that the Security Council is obsessed with Israel and ignores crimes of other countries, but that is because Israel's crimes are far worse than any other country's crimes and to stop Israel from continuing to commit these horrible crimes is far more important at this time. Israel's crimes, if allowed to continue, will cause more damage to the entire world and could drag the world into a world war. Israel's crimes must be stopped immediately.
"The international community cannot stand by idly while the Ayatollah's regime works to combine extremist ideology with nuclear technology." Well it did when it was the Zionists regime who worked to combine their extremist ideologies with nuclear technology. And how funny that iran has signed the NPT and allowed IAEA inspectors in, yet israel still wants to play the game they call nuclear ambiguity, a game they play only with themselves since everyone else in the world knows israel have nukes - without a shadow of a doubt!
Sounds EXACTLY like Israel
I was kind of thinking the same thing about many Haaretz posters...
1. This is an Israel news website, not Syrian, Iranian, or etc. 2. Second, Israel does commit those crimes and acts innocent. I don't mind a bully-what I do mind is a bully acting like an innocent victim.
...no many people are willing to sell their souls, and thats the reason nobody applies at the foreign ministry anymore... and, btw - as if israel has had any constructive idea on the arab spring, or iran... you supplied mubarak with tear gas, and who knows what you ship to assad - your last trustworthy bastion in the middle east... the jordanian king said it all, really, but nobody understood...
the UN is keeping a blind eye on Israeli nukes and crimes against palestinians.
It is easier to be a victim and keep getting money from donors than having to produce a GDP
How about how the Israelis feel? It is THEIR land after all...has been for the last, what, 3000 years? Just because people keep trying to steal it from them and call it theirs does not make it so.
Maybe when the ICC gets through with Israel this twat will see the light.
If Iran skip their nuclear weapons, Israel will skip theirs. OK?
You should skip this world. Make it a better place.
Admits that Israel has committed crimes but thinks that the UN focuses too much on those and not enough on the crimes of others. Equates Israeli crimes with Iranian crimes. Way to go.
The role of misguided UNSC emphasis on world affairs and the coddling of a militant Palestinian agenda that had chance after chance to make true peace with Israel and still refuses to do so.
way to go
Just like Israel you mean
rub their hands together in glee at the idea of a nuclear Iran. Any enemy of Israel is their friend.
If given a choice, the majority of Israel's critics would probably choose a nuclear-free Middle East, rather than WMDs in the hands of Israel and Iran. Hard not to notice that Israel has not even considered giving up its own WMDs and proposing a WMD free Middle East.
try making peace versus stealing land which will only laed to your complete demise.
Suggestion: Don't push us !
Israel should feel lucky that the US will veto any resolution even condemning Israel, to say nothing about taking action against it. The other side of the coin is that Russia will veto any further UN action against Iran (although it allowed already a few rounds of sanctions). Perhaps Prosor should offer a deal: No veto concerning both Israel and Iran...
its insulting... the wording of this speech screams for lieberman himself...
the settlements will be dismantled as they were in Gaza- but only when the Palestinians can take care of security. The West Bank can not be a rocket launching pad like Gaza. As for the Iranian nuclear program- it's history.
" As for the Iranian nuclear program- it's history." Can you please explain what you mean by that?
round after round of sanctions imposed on Iran, yup, the UN is a great friend indeed.
