Ahmed Jabari was a subcontractor, in charge of maintaining Israel's security in Gaza. This title will no doubt sound absurd to anyone who in the past several hours has heard Jabari described as "an arch-terrorist," "the terror chief of staff" or "our Bin Laden."

Israel killed its subcontractor in Gaza
The political outcome of the operation will become clear on January 22, but the strategic ramifications are more complex: Israel will have to find a new subcontractor to replace Ahmed Jabari as its border guard in the south.

Aluf Benn 'forgot' one detail, of historical proportions, a new phenomenon that was NOT present in any of Israel's previous wars (except for the last Operation in Gaza) - the thunderstorm of various Missiles fired from Gaza on our southern settlements. To call this operation to restore some tranquility to over a million people living in the south a pre-election political move - is really bizarre.

The hundred rockets didn't come out of nowhere.
- By Jens
- 15 Nov 2012
- 02:34PM
Specifically the rocket from Gaza comes as a response to a longe range of israeli croos border attacks, which culminated in killing of 13 year old boy. More generally the rockets come because of israels occupation of East-Jerusalem and the West-Bank and it's stubborn refusal to comply with UN resolutions calling for a full withdrawal and an end to the settler menace.

It is difficult to ignore the fact that there is an Israel Election scheduled, but from the various polls it is difficult to believe that the current violence in Gaza was the result of Netanyahu feeling threatened at the polls. There seems to be a strong concensus that he will win the next elections with a commanding majority anyway. Presumably, Jabari didn't initiate this round of violence in response to orders from Netanyahu to give the IDF an excuse to asasinate him.

After vote of no confidence, supported by Israeli Beiteinu passed in Knesset
- By Miron
- 15 Nov 2012
- 01:06PM
Netaneyahoo claim to seat of PM is, how do we say it in Idishe? Schvah? As far as assassination in Gaza goes, there is only one customer in Gaza today. It's not Israel. That Barak would sell IDF for such a gnarly job is not beyond belief. If he can be threatened politically he will use IDF for anything it agrees to be used for. And frankly Gaza wasn't Israel darling... They sure did bombard South for the past years and did cause much trouble. So, the sale wouldn't be all that difficult ( at the start ). Having said that, each rocket launch is different. And the past 2 days were distinctly different in patterns of actors on Gaza and Israeli sides. Which might indicate a concerted provocation by Israel. In that regard Benn's article is right on the money and a serious wake up call. And I am neither his ideological follower or admirer by any measure. He is truly aloof in his style and analysis and was actually caught on lies in the past. While each of us separately often drills self into a hole the chance that we both, looking from totally different angles at the situation are wrong are slim to none. There is another question, what will be IDF be asked to do ( and IAF specifically ) once reserves are called in. Attack Gaza, while 5 additional Iron Dome batteries can serve deterrence better than the whole army? At a fraction of cost? And most importantly, no lives lost??? You have got to be kidding yourself.

Mr Benn, You are absolutely right,,,, Jabari was doing a bang up job.We need to replace him immediately. Full page adds in the NY Times ,Al Jazeera, etc. Concurrently ,as head of the search committee you will be immediately dispatched to Gaza, hitching aride on an armored truck loaded with $'s ,armed with a mandate that if you find the right man , you are authorized to offer him a no cut contract on the spot with the $'s as a signing bonus. Hold a gala international press conference...... and lets get things back to normal in Sderot

Jabari's assistance to Israel
- By Sohl2045
- 19 Nov 2012
- 08:25PM
You need to read the article properly before opining. Jabari did not kidnap Shalit. He negotiated his return to Israel. Here is what the article said: “Jabari was also Israel's partner in the negotiations for the release of Gilad Shalit; it was he who ensured the captive soldier's welfare and safety, and it was he who saw to Shalit's return home last fall.” Opining incorrectly does not further the cause.

since we are using business terms here, why not just say Israel 'fired' it's subcontractor after repeatedly failing to do his job and secure Israel's safety? Sounds logical to me. You don't keep the same lousy subcontractor just because you can't currently find any others.

Moreover, Jabari was not Israeli's subcontractor any more than Ahmadinejad is Israel's subcontractor. Both were simply acting in (what they considered) the best interests of their own populations to avoid unnecessary conflicts with their enemy.
