One ship left port on Sunday and another will depart by Friday, loaded with food, construction material and toys, the report said. The boats would be part of international efforts to break Israel's isolation of the Gaza Strip.
"Until the end of the Gaza blockade, Iran will continue to ship aid," said an official at Iran's Society for the Defense of the Palestinian Nation.
While Israel has long suspected Iran, which rejects the Israel's right to exist, of supplying weapons to Hamas, Tehran says it only provides moral support to the group.
Israeli troops two weeks ago boarded a flotilla of Turkish aid ships heading to Gaza on May 31 and killed nine pro-Palestinian activists, most of them Turks.
Public opinion in Muslim countries was outraged by the killings. An official of the Iranian Red Crescent Society's youth organization said some 100,000 Iranians had volunteered as potential crew for aid ships, Iran daily reported.
A senior Iranian official said earlier Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards were ready to provide a military escort to aid ships heading to Gaza if Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei so commands.
But the Guards' deputy head, Hossein Salami, said there were no plans to do so. "Such a thing is not on our agenda," he was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency on Monday.
Any such military mobilization would risk a major confrontation with Israel, which fears Iran's nuclear enrichment program is aimed at developing atomic bombs.
Israel regards Iran's nuclear ambitions as a mortal threat. Iran says its nuclear program is meant solely to yield electricity or isotopes for medicine and agriculture.

Iran fears more then death is befriending Israel and fleeing Iranians. Have Israeli ships filled with former Iranian exiles, loud speakers and invite all those that wish to flee Iran safe passage. Greet the fortilla since many on board maybe seeing this as an opportunity to escape Iran than to confront Israel.

Do not let them into gaza, do not dock them at Ashdod. Iranians say they contrin toys and contrustion material etc and perhaps a nice big dirty bomb as well which they will set off once in port. Stop them turn them around. If they wont leave sink them, but do it in ISraeli waters this time
Hey, MAD DOGS & DEVIL DOGS will make HOT DOGS of the Iranian 'Basaji'...if they try something...
please. lets watch the fireworks.
Why should Israel have not recogniozed that Iran joined the Arab war against the Jewish state when Ahmadinejad called for the end to Israel?
here the iranians go again.... playing themselves into the hand of the ruthlessly decisive IDF mercenaries....lets see where this will lead the world to.
"Public opinion in Muslim countries was outraged by the killings" ? Try public opinion in the WORLD , which is only fair to say the least given the unpunished crimes commited by that ... colonial appendage we call Israel. isn't it time to just build a federal/binational/Multiconfessional nation on that land?
I would STRONGLY recommend israel take a severe posture with this and any other iranian vessels illegally trying to break the blockade and reach gaza. The ship's rudder should be damaged, with the crippled vessel taken into a safe harbor port and carefully inspected. All aboard should be considered POWs, eventually released to EU monitors. The IDF should be careful that this is not a suicide vessel laden with bombs to be blown up inside an israeli port for the purposes of killing as many israelis as possible. If iran wants to play games, nations should send aid ships to iran to help the bahai and other oppressed minority groups such as the kurds, and to the raped, tortured iranians suffering inside the iranian gulags like evin prison.
I can only hope cool heads will prevail, but have no such expectation. Come on folks, we really don't need World War III. Who will be the grownup here?
and may the israeli blockade be removed
Iran has intelligent citizenry, but their military is in the dark ages.
Not worth a comment
Turkey made a very nice show with its solidarity with the Pals. The real repercussions of this experiment are starting to materialize; Hamas will be strengthened, Abbas weakened, it will (again) become unpopular to go to negotiations on the "Arab street", the cold war with Iran will be given a chance to become hot. The real winners of this this flotilla fiasco are the war mongers who want to see negotiations dead, and a war with Iran/as many arab/muslim countries as possible. Turkey created a dangerous (and predictable) precedent. This chess game of escalation is kinda scary
"Public opinion in Muslim countries was outraged by the killings. " Public opinion EVERYWHERE was outraged. Wake up, Israel!
Lets not botch things up this time and plan a bit more carefully. On no account should we confront them in international waters but wait till they have crossed into our territorial waters. Most important keep Moshe Ya'alon out of this.
Iran has promised to destroy Israel. what if the ship carries missiles and fires them so close to Israel? The ships should be boarded far from Israel or the enemy vessels should be sunk in open waters. Turkey may be complicit as it is now Irans ally.
These misguided faux humanitarians are only interested in defeating the blockade.. otherwise they would dock in Israel and let officials inspect the cargo - then truck the aid to Gaza. Under NO circumstances should Israel end the blockade, until Hamas accepts Israel's right to exist, and settles differences peacefully. If they refuse inspection.. sink them
Sink them. Plain and simple.
im a scottish sar-el volunteer for your army and stong supporter off israel iran WILL put weapons in the cargo containers they want to gain an increase off power in the middle east , their revolutionary guard provided assistance to iraqi insurgents to kill our troops in iraq providing , ied's and sniper training .its inperative for israel to treat these ships as a threat and board them , not to do so will look weak to iran. when what will they do next !
Let us pray that this ship is not loaded with agents provacateur as the turkish ship was. And, that the interception can be accomplished within Israeli waters without having to resort to force.
Hope Iran and other countries send more aid.
good on you iran
Mediterrenean sea has long been witnessing vessels of all nationalities but Iranian. As far as I know Israelies are very hospitable, aren't they....
If I were a Gazan I would be saddened by the support of a country that is quickly becoming equally as forcefully isolated. Countries that have turned to extremist nations for leadership and camaraderie always find themselves without a friend in the world. This Iranian stunt will only bolster Israel's position, Hamas knows it and that's why they invited them.
"Public opinion in Muslim countries was outraged by the killings." Not just in Muslim countries but in EVERY country! OK, no military escort so it is just a peaceful aid ship. My suggestion for Israel is to board the ships peacefully and inspect it for weapons. If no weapons are found allow the Weapon free ships to proceed to the Port of Gaza for delivery. THATS the proper way to proceed.
What a disaster would it be if Iran`s military would escort the aidships. It would mean all out War. Hope the Gaza blockade will end soon! These aidships are certainly the way to pit put pressure on Israel to do so.
Does NOT matter who sends aid ship to Gaza. Iran, Ireland, US, Russia, China, India whoEVER it is, they have to go through the Israeli port to make sure that there is nothing on the boat that can be used as a weapon against Israel. Iranian aid ship will NOT reach Gaza skipping Israeli Port. Israel is a nation that suffered a lot and it is not going to let that happen again to their people. Israel is a peaceful nation. God Bless Israel and His chosen people. Noble South India
I think we are entering the era of wars or brobes
Instead of worrying about their own country, they're worrying about Hamas in Gaza,
Bon Voyage...Now I wonder if the Egyptians will allow the vessel through the Suez Canal ?.I very much doubt it...Long journey otherwise...
the ship will end in lebanon,it is full of weapons for kizb ..bull.. ah but if the ship continues towards israeli waters israel should destroy it .anna dina jade is a coward he would never dare to fight against israel that why he is using hizballah, and as for the syirians i never seen cowards people more than syrians ,and as for the turks they are all the children of ANNATURK,
he has to send US navy to intercept Iranians ships.
Hopefully, the world will awake a.s.a.p! It seems like we're heading a mega-war between the extremist islam and the enlightened world.
Stand up against Israel's tyranny
Do to the Iranian ships what Ben-Gurion did to 'Altelena'. Iranians boot-licking the Turks.
Its an enemy vessel putting its nose into business not of its concern. Go send aid to the Taliban, at least thats on your border.
Iran is a sworn enemy of Israel. That is according to Mr.Ahmadinejad. Will these vessels be escorted by Kilo Class Submarines.? No doubt we shall witness the first steps to all out war with the Regime. Then again it was to be expected, of course it could well be another ploy in bringing further strife with Turkey. Will Turkey join the flotilla? Could be, then Israel has nuclear subs off the coast of Iran. Maybe the Regime has a death wish. May cool heads prevail. Good day.
israel killed children israel killed woman israil killed activist israil killed peace what is israel doing
Would be nice if they include the Iranian flag i the supplies so that the people know who is supporting them - and who is leaving them to starve. My understanding is that millions of dollars have already gone through from Iran via Egypt to help pay for the governmental services.
It is obvious that the Iranians are looking for a public relations coup. It is obvious that Israel can not allow the ship to land in Gaza. It is obvious that the IDF won a pubic relations victory for the orginizers of the last aid flotila. It should now be obvious that the IDF can not be given the task of planning public relations campaigns.
To get to Gaza, either they can go around Africa and along the Mediterranean, which is a very, very long way, or pass through the Suez Canal. But, will the Egyptians let them pass through the Suez Canal ?
...is thinking on the palestinians on Gaza.
Long live Iran, let see, how far Israel would go on intercepting the peaceful cargo.
And where is the Israeli government, in trying to show the world what's going on? This is obviously a way to start a war....
and after the blockade the Gazians need no more aid? Then only weapons?
And that's the best of my two part suggestions, the first is, to sink the ship and make the suckers swim home.
