Iran: We'll 'cut off Israel's feet' if it attacks Syria
Iran's vice president defends Damascus on accusations that Syria transferred Scuds to Hezbollah.
By Natasha Mozgovaya and Haaretz Service Tags: Iran Syria Middle East peace Israel newsIranian Vice President Mohammad Rida Rahimi warned on Friday that Iran would "cut off Israel's feet" if it attacked Syria, French news agency AFP reported.
"We will stand alongside Syria against any [Israeli] threat," Rahimi told reporters during a news conference with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri in Damascus, adding that "If those who have violated Palestinian land want to try anything we will cut off their feet."
According to AFP, the Iranian vice president said that "[Syria is a] strong country that is ready to confront any threat," adding that Tehran "will back Syria with all its means and strength."
On Thursday, United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton referred to the recent torrent of allegations that Syria had transferred Scud missiles to the Hezbollah in Lebanon, and said that the Syrian President Bashar Assad was pursuing dangerous policies that could unleash war on the Middle East.
"We have spoken out forcefully about the grave dangers of Syria's transfer of weapons to Hizbollah," Clinton said. "We condemn this in the strongest possible terms and have expressed our concerns directly to the Syrian government."
She added: "Transferring weapons to these terrorists - especially longer-range missiles - would pose a serious threat to the security of Israel.
It would have a profoundly destabilizing effect on the region.
"All states must stop supplying weapons to terrorist groups such as Hizbollah and Hamas. Every rocket smuggled into southern Lebanon or Gaza sets back the cause of peace."
Clinton's reference to long-range weapons follows reports that Syria supplied Hezbollah with advanced Scud missiles capable of inflicting sever damage on Israel's major cities - a charge Damascus denies.
She said: "President Assad is making decisions that could mean war or peace for the region."
Clinton went on to defend America's recent decision to return an ambassador to Syria after a five-year absence.
"We know [Assad is] hearing from Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas, she said. "It is crucial that he also hear directly from us, so that the potential consequences of his actions are clear. That's why we are sending an ambassador back to Syria.
"There should be no mistake, either in Damascus or anywhere else: The United States is not reengaging with Syria as a reward or a concession. Engagement is a tool that can give us added leverage and insight, and a greater ability to convey strong and clear messages aimed at changing Syria's behavior."

Does the Iranian bosses think that Israel will be twiddling with its fingers while Iran attempts to cut of its legs. The Iranians are underestimating the capabilities of the IDF and the Israel Air Force which will annihilate them before they venture on any fooling adventure against Israel with or without any US help.
IDF brochures, and it shows.
in rhetoric and deploying several hundred missiles pointed at a democratically elected people. There have been times when China has turned up the rhetoric with the US about Taiwan only to be cautioned by Washington to tone down that rhetoric.
Cut off Israel's feet? Oh puleeez, they couldn't even trim Israel's toenails!
Who have to deal with their corrupt leaders, and regime. These guys want to remember, sadam's fat head snapped off at the end of a rope. You don't mess with Israel, or the USA.
Israeli warmongers have been pushing for attacks upon Iran for years. The more sane of them have been promoting attacks against Gaza or Lebanon. There has been little agitation for an attack upon Syria.
In the modern era... who talks like this. It is becoming very evident, the Iranian regime and it's officials have not progressed intellectually into the modern age. Do we ever here China, India or the United States speak in such crude and belligerently charged language. I'm not sure, if Tehran fully understands the implications... or the way this rhetoric is received in the community of nations. Tehran... winning friends and influencing people.
The question is whether Israel will attack Iran or will Iran attack Israel. Everything I have read and seen indicates the former. Even in this article Iran is saying that it will support Israel "IF" Israel were to attack Syria.
Could you please name one was that Israel started?
In the 2006 Lebanon war, Israel hardly used ground forces, and that is why, Hezbollah (although it accomplished nothing more than lobbing a few katyushas into the medditeranian) was able to keep from collapsing. Before ground forces were going to be sent in, US pressure stopped the operation. If Iran attacked Israel, it would be an existential question and no such restraint would be shown. Hizbuallah is only victorious in modern media folk/myth. In reality they could be destroyed in one or two days.
be careful! they're coming to cut your feet first. lol
Israeli do like to bluster and threaten! It must be to cover up their fear that they have finally realized that the US will not "cover" for them any longer. The world wants what the Israelis must give it: removal of the occupation and removal of all illegal settlements PLUS the return of the Golan, The Farms. Then, maybe, just maybe, the world will welcome Israel to the company of, well, theocracies!
I am amazed at the crap Ahmadenejad dishes out. If I was an Isreali I would not loose sleep over that. So what is stopping Him from doing that. So stupid
No question, culture is influenced by its language and vice versa
Without feet we'll have plenty of shoes to throw at Mr. Ahmadinajad...
Each and every week brings a new threat. One day it is Hamas, one day it is Hezbollah , and one day it is Iran itself. In the meantime Israel just needs to sit back and do nothing. Continue life as usual. Do not get goaded into making a military move. Let Iran and its proxies squirm. Let them make the 1st move.
Israel's innovation. Do you recall the IAF attack on Syria's nascent nuclear reactor ? If so, what happened to that reactor and did the IAF successfully evade the Russian-made air defenses ?
between Israel and Russia and its allies.
via its proxies by bringing offensive weapons into Lebanon. The Israel of 40 years ago would have finished that war. Today's "leaders" of Israel are confused by the definition of the word "enemy".
Israel is the biggest enemy of itself...by violation of international law, no respect to human rights. This is not about who is stronger, who poses more weapons it's about who can listen, respect, love, and help other people. Think about
Israel fought Hizbollah alone for over a month and could not defeat them. Israel used air power, armor, infantry, artillery, exotic weapons, commandos, and still Israel accomplished nothing against Hizbollah. Perhaps you may want to rethink your claim that Israel could fight Iran, Syria, Hizbollah, etc all at once and win. The joker in the pack is the Russian made anti-aircraft weapons. Perhaps the IAF would not want you as their spokesman.
"the US will cut off Iran`s head, arms, legs etc..." Paul American boys aren't going to die for war-mongering politicians who starts wars. We are still disgusted with Dumbya for starting an illegal invasion of Iraq. Get it Paulie? Salaam/Shalom
People of Iran deserve better leader than that clown.
Israel has the capability to fight Iran, Hizbullah, Hamas, and Syria all at the same time. Within a few days the air force could reduce these countries/paramilitaries to nothing. Plus, the US would get invovled and basically anihilate Iran...This bravado wont last. Iran faces a revolution at home.
Didn't they learn anything in 1967 ? Never mind, i always wanted to live east of the Golan. Maybe my dream comes through.
I thought Khameini was only interested in the chesse part. I guess I was wrong.
Syria may not be "so powerful" but Turkey is. And she does not want war in middle east anymore. We want a peaceful region like it were in the Ottoman times. So, all I can advice to Israelis is to be reasonable and not to make any stupid move.
no one is attacking anyone; no one is capable to attack anyone and most importantly no one has a permission to attack anyone
a nuclear power and now must daily suffer the worries and uncertainties that Iran poses;i.e., not knowing for sure whether Iran is bluffing or readying a nuclear strike.
who talks but doesn't offer any "action" to ward off this possible transfer of destabilizing weapons.
Well said!!!!
And they think that Israel will stand idle and let it happen. I dont think so. Before they even lift the knife they will be demolished because Isreal is just fed up with this nonsense of Iran, Syria, the proxies & Obama who had encouraged the arabs with promises. Once it starts, Israel will never stop unless thye have accomplised their goal once & for all. Calls for any cease fire will not be adhered like before. So...beware because Obama will not be able to help his 'muslim brothers", like it or not.
The Ayatollah has been threatening Israel with annihilation repeatedly. They think with their nukes they can achieved it. Ergo, they are feverishly working on their nukes. Israel would have to act quickly to insure that they don't get their hands on nukes. It would mean life or death of a nation.
'How about a face to face war on a battle field, with no civilians involved??? We already know how competent Arab generals and leaders are.... (Yom Kipur WAR: surprise attack, outnumbering israel 12 to 1) so we know why a face to face will not happen.' We have seen how Israel Markavah tanks did in south lebanon in 2006
Warning! Iran will not sit idle if Israel attacks Again. Iran will support Lebanon and Syria morally and logistically. Ignore the Cut feet translation (remember the wipe off the Map vs. Will naturally cease to exist on the map translation? Iran's warning simply says, the response to any new Israeli military adventure will sure provoke more than just a slap on the hand for a response.
The last thing America wants now is another war in the Middle East, let alone messing with Iran who is 1000 times stronger than Saddam Husein were. If Israel attacks Iran without Americas full approval (which will never happen) they will be on their own and they will suffer the consequences, on their own.
Iran's combative posture and threatening remarks are coming more often and more beligerent thanks to the US administration. Anyone knowlegeable in Middle Eastern history knows that only a bold response from the West will keep these fanatic regimes in line. The new White House policy of appeasement is as dangerous to the West as it is life threatening to Israel. The lack of a bold response from the US may turn Israel into the first ME country to use nuclear weopons to defend itself from the Iranean threat.
Israel's greatest threat is not from Iran proper, which will soon become an untouchable nuclear power, but from Iran's satellite states from which it will wage its wars.
and the US will cut off Iran's head, arms, legs etc...
LOLOL. the only thing that is saving Iran is that they are so far away and that the US controls the Airspace between them and Israel. Syria is "so powerful" that they somehow forgot to respond to three Iseaeli bombardment of their military sites, which happened in the past 10 years (first two by Sharon). Syria's way of fighting is to give weapons to Hizbulla, who will attack israel using civilian infrastructure as cover. thus buying international support when Israel retaliates. How about a face to face war on a battle field, with no civilians involved??? We already know how competent Arab generals and leaders are.... (Yom Kipur WAR: surprise attack, outnumbering israel 12 to 1) so we know why a face to face will not happen. Keep talking you cowards. Your time will come, and you will be pulled down and be strung up like a goose by your own people
