Israel Defense Forces troops positioned near the Gaza Strip border escaped unharmed on Monday after a bomb apparently planted by Palestinian militants exploded close to the security fence at the border.

The explosion occurred after a wagon rolled over the bomb some 60 meters from the fence, near Moshav Nativ Ha'asarah.

Also on Tuesday, two mortar shells fired by Palestinian militants in Gaza struck near the city of Ashkelon. No casualties or damages were reported.

These latest security incidents come after a weekend of clashes along the border. An IDF soldier was moderately wounded on Friday when a Palestinian sniper opened fire on troops securing the road near Kibbutz Nirim, where there had been an infiltration attempt earlier in the day.

The soldier, a tracker in the Givati Brigade, was transported to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva for treatment.

IDF troops killed the two Palestinians who earlier that day nfiltrated from Gaza, apparently with the intention of carrying out terror attacks in Israel.

The infiltrators successfully crossed the border and advanced several dozen meters into Israeli territory before they encountered IDF troops from the Givati Brigade and the armored corps. The troops opened fire and killed the militants.

Only Gazan farmers approach the fence according to all Palestinian eye witnesses, so Israel must have planted the device and is blaming the poor, victimized Gazan farmers. There are no militants in Gaza - just simple, religious folks who seek to till the land in peace. Sure...that's the way it is...right

That's the problem! What you have here were, through the course a one day, 1) a sniper attack that wounded a soldier. 2) An IED planted 60 meters from the fence at the Gaza border to kill IDF soldiers. 3) An infiltration by two Palestinians intent on committing terrorist acts. So three known attacks from Gaza, not including things from the WB. Israel to its credit does not go in with a massive force to root out these murderers. If they did who could blame them. Why would people condemn Israel for defending its country and civilian population. Do the Palestinians have Carte Blache permission to attack and kill Israeli Jewish people under the guise of "resistance"? Does that word excuse all atrocities the Palestinians commit? I've noticed anti-Israel writers get all worked up if a Pal civilian is killed, but on the other hand say NOTHING about these daily attacks which are planned and committed by the Palestinians. Why is that? Do you think that the Palestinians can operate under and without any humanitarian laws? It simply makes no sense. Yet if Israel simply announces a building plan in Jerusalem the world goes nuts against Israel. But let the Pals try and kill Israeli citizens and soldiers and world is covered in that deafening silence. WOW, what a double standard.

As to 1., if snipers from the IDF can shoot old men on the Gaza side, clearly snipers from the Gaza side can shoot IDF on their side. As to 2., if the IED was on the Gaza side, they have every right to put it there. Doesn't Israel have mines on its side of the border to repel invaders? If Israel, why not Gaza?

Exclusion zone applies to both sides apparently

Gazan farmers executed when approaching within 300 meters of fence; IDF soldiers bombed and shot when 60 meters from fence. All Gaza needs now is a navy and airforce to resist incursions from Israeli warplanes and gunboats.

One side is offense; one side is defence. i suspect the IDF still thinks it has the right to patrol both sides with impunity.
