The Assad regime is an enemy of Israel, or at least not a friendly regime. But based on the Iraq and Afghanistanscienarios, if a US-backed government is installed in Syria, the later will become a fertile ground for Saudi-style Jihaddis, And Israel will have a serious security problem beyond anyone's control. The longer Assad survives, the more the US will need the help of its old strategic allies (fundementalists but with a different name than Al-Qaeda, this time).

The defections within his army and security forces are expected, as they are of a secular nature. And most high-ranking defectors end-up in Turkey (i.e. not active within Syria). The Syrian security forces are holding up together well (thus far), and the CIA cannot bribe every Syrian citizen. The war in Syria has already exceeded US/Saudi/Qatari allocated budget. If Assad does not fall within a couple of months, they will stop and look for a more profitable adventure elsewhere. So, in the long-term, Assad will most probably outlive leaders in many Arab countries.

For those in Israel who wanted "democratic change" in Syria. Beware, your wishes may come true! The fall of the evil Assad regime will be replaced by an even more radical fanatical regime. This will be bad for the Jews in Israel and for the Christians in Syria & Lebanon.

Assad is crazy. If he can slaughter his own people the way he is doing now , can you imagine what he would have rained down on Israel ?

Thats the way it goes in the middle east. Disturb the peace and cry pathetically for freedom then meet the other side. Freedom comes from inside.

but israel is in need of enemies to keep annexing so it will be no problem.

Assad will fall to defeat by the " rebel terrorists", Iran will b taken out by their ever so blessed uranium enrichment process as the USA bombs their nuclear facilities!
