Hamas official: Palestinians should fire at Israel from West Bank
Army Radio quotes Mahmoud Zahar as saying that Hamas would never change its policy of 'resistance' against Israel.

Asked whether rocket fire against Israel should be limited to launches originating in Gaza, Zahar told the East Jerusalem newspaper Al Quds that the fact that "such launches should happen in the West Bank as well [as Gaza] is inevitable."
Zahar criticized the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority for fighting the "resistance," saying that it was not Hamas that took over Gaza, but in fact President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement that had seized the power in the West Bank, aided by the Israeli "occupation."
Abbas, according to Zahar, got "one big zero" out of the international community, adding that Arab states had severed ties with Hamas in order to avoid conflict with the United States and to "save their heads."
The Hamas leader also stressed that Hamas would never change its policy, even if it won the next elections, saying that the solution lies in "resistance."
"If we had been interested in forfeiting our rights, I would have been in Washington by now," Zahar told Al Quds.

Being a nihilistic and purely resistance/terror 9whatever you like) organisation, it needs oppression, misery and despair among the people to thrive and receive their support. Hamas fears economic developement and better life for Pals in general. Of course they want Abbas to make utterly stupid moves that will destroy the prospect for this for Pals in WB. If Israel lifts the blockade of Gaza and starts allowing economic developement in Gaza, it will create the beginning of the end for Hamas.
Turkey's PM Erdogan said that Kurdish rebels should be attacked until they are annihilated, after 11 Turkish soldiers were killed in attacks. If this is Turkey's stance, then why does it condemn Israel for wanting to annihilate Hamas due to the wanton killing of soldiers and civilians? Turkey seems to be acting hypocritically.
Israel originally did not intend to create a Palestinian state. Until the first intifada the Israeli goal was to continue the occupation with at most an autonomy. The Hamas Intifada (when military Hamas was born) brought Israel to Oslo. But then Netanyahu won (1966) and Oslo turned dead. Under the Barak interim, Arafat proved a tough negotiator (but Arafat was not Hamas). When Likud returned to power (under Sharon), and with the Hamas 2nd intifada, Sharon eventually left Gaza (so it would be easier for him to hold onto the West Bank. Hamas continued resistance induced Bush and eventually Israel=Olmert and Netanyahu to accept a Palestinian state. So why blame Hamas for their winning strategy? Instead, Israel should look at itself with disgust.

Most people familar with the Gaza situation will know that Mahmoud Zahar is a hardliner and discount any attributed comment. Facts are that Hamas has actually declared that they would join a peace deal based upon the greenline. The continued demonisation of Hamas is diversionary propoganda. Hamas leaders are not very nice people, but neither are the PLO leaders, nor the Israeli leaders. The facts are that Palestine is occupied territory, part since 1948, the rest since 1967. This is a situation the citizens of the world find outrageous, the western politicians will eventually stop being in the pocket of the jewish lobby. So Israel, few people are actually trying to delegitamise you, but the Palestinians have no less rights than you. UNGA 181 gave you your bit the pre 47 mandate, the remainder plus Gaza & the West Bank is for the PA. Egypt and Jordon relinquished their claims to the PLO, not to you. So choose offer the PA one state and equal rights or get out. The 67 border is a better deal than going back to UNGA 181.

This is what will happen if Israel withdraws on the West Bank: missiles on Jerusalem, the airport and Tel Aviv, for starters. The whole country at a standstill till Israel invades again and the Goldstones and flotillistas of the world start jumping up and down at Israel's temerity in defending itself. We've seen this movie countless times before--only idiots refuse to take the Arabs at their word, or insist that they know better what the Arabs will do than the Arabs themselves.

By firing at unarmed Palestinians from inside Israel, IDF shows the world which side is the terrorist. I realize how difficult it must be for Palestinians inside the West Bank and Gaza to always be on the receiving end of the violence, but the world sees what Israel is doing, and in the end Palestine will be free. And if we need a thousand boats and a million unarmed passengers to do it, we WILL free Gaza.

Israel ussualy acts in self defense while the Palestinians are mostly the aggressors in this conflict. Anybody with half a brain can understand this. That`s why most Americans support Israel despite Obama.

Fatah, unhappy with the results, made the coup that led to the actual situation, no doubt under heavy pressure. Israel wants to discuss with democratically elected people representative of their people. It would be easier if Israel, on her side, organized a first democratic election and got rid of apartheid. That way, all inhabitants would be represented at the Knesset.

Hamas needs some respect and recognition. They won and then overcame Bush's coup attempt. The affiliation with Turkey and ability to control the militant extreme has earned them a voice publicly acknowledged by the Quartet and Abbas as a partner in achieving peace.

Where are all the condemnations to suck a request of violence against civilians. I don't hear the voice of the UN, the Europeans but we may hear the congratulations from Erdogan. Hamas is, was and probaly will always be a TERRORIST Organization targeting CIVILIANS. Hamas is fighting for it's survival NOT for the people of Gaza and less for the Palestinians in general.

Maybe if Israel stopped the occupation than they wouldn't be attacked but as history has proven occupation never works.
If stopping the occupation was the key then why did missiles rain down on Israel when they took the steps of leaving Gaza in good faith? Maybe if the Palestinians declared that the war that they started over 60 years ago was over and that they were ready to make a peaceful settlement between the two countries, then Israel would have no reason to continue the occupation....but until the Palestinians say that they no longer wish for Israel's destruction and no longer wish for war Israel will and should continue the occupation. This conflict goes back much further than the last decade, so you should get your facts straight before commenting.
Dear Andrew, Israel has COMPLETELY pulled out of Gaza with Ariel Sharon. After the pullout Hamas launched thousands of rockets into Israel from Gaza. Can you please explain why?

Israel, along with Israeli oppression, has the worlds eye at the moment and it is likely to continue for some time. This is good news for the Palestinians. The Palestinian militants should do nothing to change the focus or to create justification for Israels actions. Take a break. There is plenty of time for resistance if it becomes necessary. Israel can usually be counted upon to be their own worst enemy.
Israel's arrogance and outlaw attitude is sufficient enough in creating it's own demise. No need to give them more excuses to continue their shoot to kill policies. Let it implode from within.

That will give Israel exactly the excuse they need to open a campaign to round up the west bank arabs, jordaian, syrians and hamas sympathizers and ecort them to the Allenby bridge for permanent deportation. Hamas is upset that life in the WB has improved dramatically in the past few years. They want to bring the same misery to the WB they brought to Gaza. The see all this international pressure on Israel and they are terrified that a peace agreement may be forced on Israel. They want to stir the pot to avoid that
