France upgrades diplomatic ties with Palestinians
Foreign minister: France supports creation of 'viable, independent, democratic Palestinian state' by early 2012.
The French government has upgraded its diplomatic relations with the Palestinian Authority to help speed the creation of a Palestinian state, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Monday.
What was previously titled the Palestinian delegation to France will now be referred to as the Palestinian mission, Kouchner said in a press statement.

And the senior Palestinian diplomatic official in France will now be referred to as the ambassador, chief of mission, instead of general delegate.
Kouchner said that France supported the creation of a "viable, independent, democratic Palestinian state" by the first quarter of 2012.
The diplomatic upgrade was carried out "to contribute to the realization of this objective and to guarantee its credibility," he said.

It is all on for a one state solution. Israel wants the rest of Jerusalem. Also most of the rest of the West Bank. There is no room for a two state solution any more and Frances attempt to recognise Palestine is just trying to help Israel out. It has failed. One state it will be. Will it be Apartheid as well?
Soon Europe will recognize the Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital.

France is lost already. Sooner or later they will be in the same position like Israel in their own country with their militant islamic minority. I am Czech and I see clearly that so called Western Europe is in postdemocracy already. Appeasement like with Czechoslovakia in 1938 is everywhere. POlitical corectness is killing West Europe. Soon former socialist countries like Czech, Slovaks, Poland, Hungary, Romania etc, will be the only ones to defend true traditionial values of Chrisiano-Judaistic Europe. Hopefully US and Canada as well. But I would not bet anymore on France, Britain or other countries like that.
Mr. Kouchner is full aware that the notion which he supports will not become reality. If he is not full aware, France needs a wiser Foreign Minister. Sorry to those whose optimism I quash.
What ? an independent democratic Palestinian state with Hamas directing the state? They wanted democracy in Gaza and what they got was Hamas, a terrorist/ gangster organization.
I understand why France would proceed with this move: they must appease their Muslim community. However, I wonder how much money will France invest in disappointment (by the way things are going with Abbas hesitating and all; by the time we reach 2012 a Palestinian state will only exist in the imagination and hearts of people).

The Palestinians refuse to hold direct talks with Israel and France rewards them by upgrading relations. I guess it makes sense if your country is slowly turning Moslem.
What deeplyshocks French people and all European people whose nation used to be colonial, is the way Israel stillmaintains illegal settlements in occupied Palestinian territory. the Israeli occupation of the West bank, including East jerusalem, is an anomaly.
When one doesn't know about the complexities of the Middle East Peace Process one should refrain from making a fool out of itself by repeating the same old simplistic arguments that are regurgitated all over the world. Read more, learn more and then offer an intelligent opinion.
Israel's illegal settlements on 'occupied Palestinian land' is about as illegal as the US illegal occupation of that country on Native American land and land formerly owned by Spain, Mexico and France. Israel will abandon its land when the U.S. does the same in their country. What occupation? What illegal land? Palestinian? A deliberately contrived 'myth', an outright lie ! I believe the original land grant to Israel goes back to Abraham. There is no mention of ' Palestinian' in that original land grant ! Israel also has a ' manifest destiny'.
When Israel and the Palestinians meet, with maps and pencils and rubbers and determine the final borders, by MUTUAL consent, then you can speak of Palestinian territory, until then, it is the area between Israel and Jordan where the Palestinian people live. Good luck to both in the difficult and important negotiations to come, but, there must be face to face for this process to begin.

to start Direct Negotiations with no answers from the Israeli side..... You, Mr Kuchner, the EU and the US have left Abbas with no choice, but to resign.... the only honorable thing to do to gain his respect from his people.
Its pathetic...first all the European governments and the US forced the Palestinians to agree to the Road Map. Once PA began the implementation process...they decided that the Road map did not matter...becoz Israel did not meet obligations
There are no more answers for Abbas on this topic. The question put forarward to Abbas is start direct negotiations & Abbas wont heed. What Abbas wants to hear is Israel "will return to 1967 borders". That is not possible and Abbas knows it so they kepp on persisting on the same issue & then you have the audacity for saying that there is 'no answers from the Israeli side'...and quote. Israel will never return to 1967 borders NOR will they return the Golan Heights.
