Egypt warns Israel: Don't interfere with opening of Gaza border crossing
Rafah's opening would be a violation of an agreement reached in 2005 between the U.S., Israel, Egypt, and the EU; Israel official tells the Wall Street Journal developments in Egypt could affect Israel's national security.

Egypt announced this week that it intended to permanently open the border crossing with Gaza within the next few days.

The announcement indicates a significant change in the policy on Gaza, which before Egypt's uprising, was operated in conjunction with Israel. The opening of Rafah will allow the flow of people and goods in and out of Gaza without Israeli permission or supervision, which has not been the case up until now.
An Israeli official on Friday told The Wall Street Journal that Israel was troubled by the recent developments in Egypt saying they could affect Israel's national security at a strategic level.
Israel's blockade on Gaza has been a policy used in conjunction with Egyptian police to weaken Hamas, which has ruled over the strip since 2007.
Rafah's opening would be a violation of an agreement reached in 2005 between the United States, Israel, Egypt, and the European Union, which gives EU monitors access to the crossing. The monitors were to reassure Israel that weapons and militants wouldn't get into Gaza after its pullout from the territory in the fall of 2005.
Before Egypt's uprising and ousting of longtime leader Hosni Mubarak, the border between Egypt and Gaza had been sealed. It has occasionally opened the passage for limited periods.

Israel should see what Egypt allows and does not allow into Gaza. There are certain conditions that Hamas has to abide by in order to be unified with Fatah. The opening of the border has occurred as a condition by Egypt for Hamas to unite with Fatah. If Fatah and Egypt overlook and control the border then they most likely will not allow Hamas to arm itself more in order for it to provoke Fatah, Egypt or Israel. Since border is open from Egypt, Israel should stop all food and medicine supplies into Gaza and totally seal its border with Gaza until Hamas comes to have agreement with Israel.
Israel has orchestrated a campaign of collective punishment on all of Gaza for the terrorist activities of a few. As long as Israel had Arab dictators to assist in this effort it was successful. This policy was never supported by the Egyptian people and hopefully now this situation will end.
imagine if there is a jew in the world who is poor and hungry , all world jew will help them , what 1.5 million ppl are souffring every day from the siege , this egyptien decission must had being taken a long time ago ;
today is a new day for State of Egypt. Of course we will have respect for Egypt for its okay actions.
Mubarak is gone. So is the "agreement".
it's time to Israel to remember that Egypt is a independent country has it's own will and the american puppet already gone and going to jail ... now israel should cooperate seriously egypt as as it's big and strong country with strong army , so shut that thing called liberman up and talk seriously to reach what we all want '' the peace '' and recognizing the state of palestine
it says, the crossing will be monitored by EU observers... it does NOT say, the crossing has to be closed, and food etc be limited...

of the so called democratic revolution - Israel, expect the flood of weapons into Gaza, ensuing rocket barrages, and once given a proper response, be ready that your neighbouring moslem arabs, who only dare to fight from behind human shields, will once again cry about "innocent civilians" killed by the bloody zionists...
No one cares any more about what he US thinks, which means no one cares about what Israel thinks. The Palestinians are enjoying the fruits of getting rid of the dictators, so I cannot wait until Assad is also gone. Recognize Palestine

Don't interfere with our demagogery. We will continue oppressing the Egyptian People, exactly as Mubarak or even much worse, and we'll open gaza crossing to show the world who the good guys are.
The quisling Netanyahu is afraid to breath in the fear that it might anger the followers of allah. Israel has been neutered by the fake peace process and like a deer in the headlights stands paralyzed.
Deja vu 1967 Egypt is acting the same belligerent way as it did prior the 67 War. Israel needs to dust off their nuclear weapons.
Well, this is the post #Jan25 Egypt and I think you better get used to it as a peaceful yet strong, independent and fair neighbor.
and its sections on crossing between Gaza and West Bank, and the re-opening of Gaza airport were never implemented. It's just ironic that suddnely Israel's government became interested in signed agreements.
but will definitely thwart their plans to lessen Hamas' popularity in Gaza by applying economic hardships on the Palestinians. the Egyptian public opinion maybe divided regarding the peace treaty with Israel, but we ALL agree that the collaboration with Israel against Palestine must end.
If the free passage of food, medicines and children's clothes poses a strategic threat to Israel, then what does this say about the moral foundations of the state of Israel?
Glad to hear that Egypt is helping the Palestinians Mubarak era is gone..You must get ready for a new Egypt a country looking for its own interests and only that and not for your interests or whatever. No more cheap gas..No more covering up for your crimes no more silence...If you cross the line we'll attack and annihilate you !
Opening the border to free trade and commerce was obviously a term of the recent accord between Hamas and Fatah. Very likely that a deal on POW Shalit was part of this as well. The world should certainly welcome these developments. Progress on these issues will only advance the situation in this region, as well as improve the living situation for its inhabitants. When people live better, they get along better.
THIS is the Egypt that we have been longing to see for decades.
What Israel has violated so far as the Only DEMOCRACY
Egypt wants too open the Rafah crossing in violation of an agreement reached in 2005 between the United States, Israel, Egypt, and the European Union. The agreement which gave the monitors from the EU access to the crossing to prevent weapons and terrorists from getting into Gaza being null and void will given Israel the right to respond. But if the opening is to allow ONLY civilian good than it is a good move. Therefore the onus of the prevention of weapons and terrorists elements from entering Israel is utermost on the monitors. Failure to do so is a cause de belaire.
I LOVE EGYPT!
Egypts new policy: Rafah's opening would be a violation of an agreement reached in 2005 between the United States, Israel, Egypt, and the European Union, which gives EU monitors access to the crossing. The monitors were to reassure Israel that weapons and militants wouldn't get into Gaza. And if weapons and terrorist do enter Gaza than it is Israels right to fuel air bomb Gaza to wipe out the threat
problem solved ... no ?
Hope Egypt, in scrapping the peace treaty with Israel by facilitating attacks on Israeli civilians, knows what this chest-thumping will cost its people. History now takes another step backward.
Nothing to stop EU from establishing a european monitoring team and monitor the border crossing, is there?
despite the knee jerk reaction that will no doubt follow from the Israeli political elite, this will at least allow for the unfettered access by the worlds press. It will also allow for the reconstruction of this tortured territory to begin in earnest.
where does that leave the flotilla? Still going to sink it? No point now eh?
An enemy is still an enemy. Egypt is an enemy of Israel and will always remain. Now Egypt can talk and make threats to Israel; it will not take time before some problem will set in between Israel and Egypt, so, Israel must get prepared before it is too late. First, change your policy towards Egypt, treat Egypt as an enemy country before Egypt over-run Israel. Secondly, Trust no Arab country or muslim because they are together with Egypt. Thirdly, create awareness to USA about Egypt potential threat to the State of Israel. Fourtly, get prepared for all out war in all fronts because Egypt will one day be stupid to attack Israel, make no mercy at all.
Just like Europe says "Its not us its the Arabs". I think we should lift the blockade which has no real sense after all weapons will enter Gaza via Egypt. But any single rocket should be answered much more drastically than today, and "disproportionate force" is precisely the answer: If one country send a rocket upon another the answer should not be the same type of rocket sent back. Just like if there is one thief, there is no law you should send only one policeman. We lift the blockade, and after the first rocket Israel should fully reoccupy Gaza.
Talk like this, where military force is seen as the answer, and the military superiority of your side is assumed, really pisses off a large part of the world population. Not only is it brutal and insensitive, it is not even realistic. You will not forever be militarily superior to those who inhabit the region around you, and there are countless historical examples of similar arrogant thinking - like underestimation of the USSR in World War II, or the Vietnamese in the mid 20th century.
I dont`t agree with the reoccupation of Gaza.We don´t need it.But wiht the reopening of the frontier Israel should tranfer responsability for the supply of electricity, oil, medicines, medical treatment, construction items, etc inmediately and close the the frontier wiht Gaza until the Gazans decide whteter to leave in peace with Israel or not.Hamas shoulf recognize the rghit of Israel as an independent state, give up terrorist actions and start together with the OLP negotiation that will end with a paletinian state wirth borders accorded in negotiations. No more rockets neiihter to Israel no to Gaza.
Surely now, even strident Zionists can see that the will of the people World Wide is with the Palestinians and against Israel. I have no doubt that this is based on 2 reasons 1. A portion of them are anti jewish and will be against Israel whatever happens 2. Most of us are sick and tired of the double standards applied by the West upon the Palestinians. There is simply no way Israel can maintain the status quo. You wanted to strangle Hamas by punishing the population of Gaza - you have failed. Now with the Egyptian border open, your criminal actions will have been seen to fail by all. Go back to the mandated borders set by the UN. Go back or be forced back. You cannot defend a military occupation of Palestine Change or live in eternal conflict - its your call.

its about time we end the suffering of gaza
Not a matter of our concern? Of course it is. It depends on what happens. If Egypt stops the smuggling of weapons and ammunitions, and if they check and arrest terrorists, and if the find and destroy tunnels, thereby allowing an orderly and peaceful flow of people and goods - fine. But if they allow militants to bring in arms, and if these arms are used againt civilians in Israel, then we have to act. But I suggest that EU and USA will aplly pressure on the egyptians that they don´tmebark on aggressive and stupid campains against Israel. And here´s a final note: there is no need to send a flotilla straight to Gaza. You can now go to Egypt, and then pass all the goods through the Rafah-crossing.You can hang there and talk to the palestinians. Of you can go ahead with the fotilla in order to demonize me, the other israelis and the State of Israel. Good luck.
The flotilla is still needed to break the coastal siege on Gaza.. it is not demonisation to draw attention to this.
israel need to get back to it's real size, it cant pretend to keep half of the middle east under siege for it's insanity!!!!!!!!!!!
i´m waiting for the big boom in the middle east states....
And I guess it means the flotilla is unnecessary now. Everyone's a winner :-)
