Egypt FM: Palestinians could get $50 billion in compensation under peace deal

He did say that the money – which he believes could total between $40 and $50 billion – would be designated toward building infrastructure in a nascent Palestinian state and to compensate those who lose land in an exchange with Israel.

In a separate interview on Monday with the Al-Arabiya station, Aboul-Gheit called Israel's demand to be officially recognized as a Jewish state was "a cause for concern" considering the growing Arab sector.
"Arabs make up 20% of Israel's population," Aboul Gheit told Al-Arabiya. "What will happen when they're 30%, say in 25 years?"
Aboul-Gheit also denied during that interview that there was any "political significance" to reports that Netanyahu had met separately with Egyptian President Mubarak's son's Jamal, the latter's heir apparent. "That is a lie. This is not the first time that the president's son has accompanied him, and there is no political significance."

Constitutionally laws can be edicted to favour an harmonious growth for everyone but the Arab identity cannot suppress the Jewish identity in Israel as much that even today Arab identity cannot suppress the identity of the Ancient Egyptians in Egypt... it's a question of proper policies not of number of citizens. In Quebec we had to pass Bill 101 to protect our French identity.

If any it is the chosen ones who fully appreciate the righteousness of justified compensation. The Jewish state no doubt have many who are very empathetic to this request.
The per refugee amount is about $70.000, a bit high, but not outgageous. However to be a negotiable point, such compensation must be fair. It must include compensation to Jewsih refugees as well. I think we talk about 700.000 Arab refugees and 1.000.000 Jewish. The cost of property lost must be factored in. What will be amounts due to Jewsih refugees, any Idea? Someone mentioned b100$ is it sufficient?

In 1948 had it not been for the invasion of Israel by Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan & Saudi Arabia the 2 state solution based on the 1947 UN proposed borders would probably have been adopted by both sides in the end ( gave the palestians more than 1967 border would ). The right of return idea is also a creation of the Arab League as an attempt to use the refugees as a demographic weapon which is also why they banned any arab state giving citizenship to refugees. Its not an idea that was born in the streets the original refugees just wanted a new place to live when Israel didn't want them back which is how it works with all other refugees in the world. The Gulf states have no financial troubles these days so let them pay it would also show how serious they are about peace. Also when it comes to the palestiians traditionally the arabs promise to donate huge sums but when it comes to writing the checks they are only for a fraction of that amount so the rest of then world ends up paying the shortfall. So let the arabs look after their own for once. The palestinians are arabs and we are creating another arab state which will probably join the Arab League on day 2 of independence so let them pay the bills for a change.

No one trust or respect this person. the palestinian people will never accept any amount of money in exchange for even one pal.village in occupied palestine. The right of return is essential. the jews can go back to their previous home land every where in arab countries or else where.

The Jews who have been refugees for 2000 years from their occupied homeland have returned home and liberated their homeland. The Arabs occupying the Jewish homeland knew the land belongs to the Jews. The Arab sultans and leadership of the Arabs for centuries have refered to Palestine as the home of the Jews and Jerusalem as the Jews city. Let me put it to you this way if you don't abandon the idiotic idea of right of return there will be no palestinian state full stop. Even your palls like Obama and the EU are not going to support a right of return and even the arab world is slowly coming round to reality. How do you work out that a new born palestinian baby who has never stepped foot in Israelk is a refugee with a right to return to the home its now dead grandparents and great grandparents lived in. The palestinians are the only group in the world who consider refugee status as inheritable. The number of real refugees now is very low considering if somebody was born on the day of Israels independence they would now be going on 63. My grandparents were refuges from Nazi Austria they lost everything. I am not an Ausrtian refugee with a right of return to the home of my grandparents. Only palestinians have this warped belief in this idea that no matter how many generations pass they are all refugees with a right of return to the romatic little villages where there were they had nice flowers and a wonderful community where everybody knew each other and the children all played happily together those places are gone. Those romantic places have now been replaced by industry, they are part of kibutzim, demolished and the land redeveloped or used for a host of other reasons. Deir Yassin is part of a mental hospital now .. you guys want to return and live in the grounds of a mental hospital? You guys are living a fairy tale existence and if you don't drop demands like the mythical right of return you won't get anything so you can spend another 62 years rotting away in Gaza camps. I think that the million jewish expelled from arab countries are entitled for 100 billion; it is strange that nobody , even Israel never claims these indemnity from EGYPT, LYBIA, TUNISIA , MAROCCO, ALGERIA, SIRIA, LEBANON, IRAK, YEMEN where about 1 million jews was expelled and their home and assets confiscated.....

Putting it into perspective, how much has Libya promised to the UNRWA and to the PA, and then failed to make payment? Is $50M a down payment? Also putting this into perspective, foreign aid to the PA is well in excess of $1 billion. The "evil anti-Arab" US provides hundreds of millions of dollars annually to the PA. And finally, the UNRWA is a political farce. The job that the UNRWA purportedly does for the Palestinians is done FAR more efficiently, for all refugees in the world except for Palestinian ones, by the UNHCR. The UNRWA should be eliminated and the Palestinians should be (respectfully and humanely) treated like all of the other refugee populations since World War 2, and like the Jewish refugees from the Arab world (whom Ghaddafi's father robbed and persecuted, which is why there are no Jews left in Libya): accept that they have left their country of origin, resettle them where they are or in willing third countries, and close the books. Why are Palestinian refugees special? Darfurian, Somali, Indian, Pakistani, Yemeni, Iraqi, Syrian, Burmese, Bosnian, etc. refugees don't receive special treatment. Why should Palestinian ones?
There has never been a Palestinian state, and the land they lived on belong to occpied kingdom of Judah. The Jews never gave up claim to the land, therefore, they have the right liberate their land. Is there a time period when the occupier becomes a legitamate owner of the land. The Arabs are complaining about the crusades which happened over 1000 years ago, and are asking europe for compensation, the crusaders went back to Europe, didn't occupy Arab land, therefore the Jews are entiteled to liberate their land after 2000 years

A large portion of that so called $50 billion dollar bribe should come from Lebanon, Syria, Jordon, Egypt as there failure to absorb shifting populations after wars as most countries of this world have done in the past has caused most of the harm to the palestinians. My grandmother used to say she was born in Poland but it really decided on which day of the week it was as the border kept shifting.
Germany may have paid compensation to SOME. But they robbed the real estate of Austrian Jews who owned real estate in East Germany. Not all Jews received compensation.
Israel is taken, it belongs to the People of The Nation of Israel, just as it was when King David united both Israel and Judea. After the '67 war which Israel won so handily, the palestinians were invented by Arafat. It was worth billions to Arafat and his fellow criminals who have callously disregarded any pretense of any of the basic services needed for the Pals. Hamas then supplied food, medicine etc. and the pals now owe their allegiance to them or, to Fatah which cant unite the two. It is meant at a refund for what was endured and serized. 6 millions of Jews died, the survivors have even had their entire family killed. How can it be even compared to the Palestinians? Then even my parents deserve $50 billions. They had to leave their Moroccan home. Not as bad as the tortured and assassinated ones...
