So, not a one-state solution? Seems a no-brainer to me, and others. How about a two-state solution? Seemed a good Balfour solution to me, and others, but its time has run out, only its shadow is in play because nothing else is in play. Third way? When there are 5.9 million Israelis, 6.1 million Palestinians in Greater Israel and about 380 million Arabs close by not to mention about 1.8 billion Muslims in the world, it seems to me there are many third ways but few of Israel's choosing. So the game to play with pen and paper is the Third Way game. Chose any one you like but do include the consequences of your choice.

Should the palestinians say thank you to Sharon for turning over what he stole from them ? Gaza is 1% of Palestine. Not a concession, not a Xmas present. The WB is palestinian land as well with a large palestinian majority. The disaster comes from occupation. Are settlers ready to get palestinian citizenship, learn Arabic and comply to palestinian rules ? if the answer is no they can pack their things and leave. Bye bye

- By Darth Zaider (Ed)
- 30 Oct 2012
- 01:53PM
History has shown that the two peoples cannot live together and need to be separated. The unilateral Israeli trasfers and withdrawals cannot work. What would work is population trasfers to mutually agreable land swaps. Israel agrees to this formulation while Palestinians do not. On top of that even if the Palestinians agreed to that in prinicpal they could no adhere to this for a long time since now tow generations of Palestinians have been raised believing that that israel will eventually be overcome and surplanted. So you can call it anything you like but it it ain't gong to happen any time in our life times.

How ignorant you are of Israel,s history! The land of Israel belongs and will always belong to the Jewish people. There are no people called Palestinians, they are Arabs and Egyptians. God has a serious warning to any nation who tries to divide His land " As you have done to My people(Jews) I wil surely do to you.Pharoe killed all the Jewish babies, God destoyed their firstborn along with their armies!! because why hasn't this particular Israeli government initiated a proposal to the PA of borders or stopped construction of West Bank settlements? A Bar Ilan University speech and freezing construction in the West Bank, does not convey an iota of progress. Both Israeli governments led by the Labour party and Kadima party initiated peace plans. The Arab League has also initiated a peace plan in 2002 with most of the principles giving Israel a resounding acceptance with the issue of refugees being the most contentious of all. Iran also signed onto this declaration for peace. The excuses about the other side's unreadiness, genuine interest in peace or not moderate enough is simply a stalling tactic. I think the Israeli electorate will take much of this negligence into consideration for the next election in 2013.

Whether you are in the USA, Israel, or any other part of the world with a "democratically elected" representative government, some things you can always count on are the stupidity and apathy of the electorate, and it's predisposition to be easily manipulated.

Sadly, the Israeli public has succumbed to the fear mongering of Bibiand the Right.
- By Thomas Roth
- 30 Oct 2012
- 02:10PM
Bibi and the Right have exploited the Israeli public's fears and unfortunate racism toward the Palestinians, to the extent that the public does not even remember how a responsible government behaves. All prior diplomatic initiatives are viewed cynically and the blame is conveniently passed to the other side without sufficient self-examination. Bibi has neither the courage nor the will to negotiate in good faith with the Palestinians. What Bibi is good at, is spinning his version of events and instilling unwarranted fear. This is what has kept him in power. Sadly, it doesn't appear things will change this time around.

09 0 0the threat
- By Ned
- 30 Oct 2012
- 04:13AM
The serious threat of a one-state solution is the only manner to force Israel to act for peace and let go of their oppressive occupation. If that threat does not deter Israel from continuing the occupation, settlements, land grab, and economic strangulation of the Palestinians, then Israel must be forced to accept the Palestinians as part of the nation of Israel. Enough said.

For a majority of Jewish Israelis, the whole Jewish concept is to be and remain apart and seperate.
- By Two States

- 08:23AM
In other words, they cannot be fully Jewish IF Arab or Palestinian citizens have equal rights. Therefore the one-state solution cannot be implemented with any hope of success. I don't fault Israel or Jews for this characteristic, I simply recognize it as a fact and suggest we pursue solutions that afford a preservation of this characteristic. The two-state solution is THE ONLY WAY.

Israel's greed and/or unwillingness to confront the more extreme...
- By Thomas Roth

elements in her society has possibly rendered the two-state solution null and void. Further, if Israel cannot grant her Arab citizens equal rights, than she will ultimately become an international pariah. It may take a few decades, but eventually Israel's Arab citizens will forcefully demand their rights and the international community will no longer be able to deny the Israeli government's official discrimination against her own "citizens".

The Choice...
- By Ned
- 30 Oct 2012
- 02:39PM
The Two-State, or One-State peace solution cannot be implemented in the current racist, anti-anything-non-jewish Israeli thought and policies! Israel has got to choose: Either a TWO-STATE peace with the Palestinians as the rest of the world sees it, or a ONE-STATE peace as Israel views it! Again, enough said!

05 0 0Ross is right that the 2-state solution is not dead, but he sure wantsto kill it
- By Rammer
- 30 Oct 2012
- 02:16AM
Underlying his reasoning is that the Palestinians should not go to the UN but should rather return to the table, happy with whatever “diplomatic initiatives” that Israel choses to take in order to “dispel notions” that it is not interested in the peace. He does not mention if settlement expansion should be part of this initiative. But he mentions that such an initiative would help “in the campaign against Israel’s delegitimization.” So it is the international theater that he is interested in. In short he wants the negotiations to drag on until Israel grabs enough land to reduce Palestine to a few unconnected urban centers. But it is true that the 2-state will soon enough get a new wind, though not because of what Ross thinks. To forestall the collapse of Fath and the PA, Israel will have to improve the economic and social situation of the WB Palestinians to a point which would be impossible without integrating them into the Israeli economy, and that would be a one state to all practical pruposes. Ordinary Israelis do not seem to grasp the consequences of what their government is doing. They think that the Palestinian economy can be improved and at the same time remain separate. They will change their minds when they start competing with Palestinians for jobs. An advanced economy living next to an inexhaustible pool of cheap labor. That should be an interesting experience. It will be interesting to see how long it would take the Israelis to wake up, smell the coffee, and beg for separation.

If it is anathema to him to ignore the demographic reality, why did he work so hard to obstruct the peaceful talks during his tenure under the last three administrations? Why did he pressure Obama to veto the Palestinian resolution condemning the settlement expansion? Clinton wanted to abstain but Ross talked over her head and practically intimidated Obama to agree to a veto.
