Author of The Color Purple refuses to authorize Hebrew version because 'Israel is guilty of apartheid'

To the author of "The Color Purple" - Perhaps you should find out first-hand if there really is apartheid in Israel. Go to any shopping mall. See that Arabs and Jews shop and work together. Go to any hospital. See that both Arabs and Jews are treated equally. There are many Arab doctors working at Hadassah hospital. Arab citizens vote, become members of parliament, practice law in Israeli courts, receive social benefits and much more. A smart person would find out first hand what is really happening and would not listen to unverified propaganda.

If Walker supports BDS she shows herself to be an ignorant follower of trend, rather than an astute leader of civil rights campaigns and a proponent of peace. The Color Purple was a pretty poor novel anyway.

A book about the horrors of racism not being translated into hebrew because the author wants to label an entire people guilty for the actions of a few. hmmm If she really wanted to help change she should give her book out free to Israelis. A book about ending injustice not being distributed to end injustice is as dumb as a fireman saying that since the house is already burning down that its better to let it burn then to try and put it out. Classic liberal hypocricy.

I'm an Israeli who has served in the IDF as does my son now. I am sad to say that I completely understand the reasoning that compels Ms. Walker to take this moral stand. It is upon us to make right what we can on our side rather than spend time and energy justifying our actions. We are here we aren't going anywhere. Most of us have no where else to go and remember collectively what it was like when there was no state of Israel. When good people like Alice Walker are calling us on the carpet. Maybe it's time we complained less and listened more.

Bedouin elected as head of Israeli academic institution for first time in history! Others have pointed out the status of Jews in the very countries and wanna be countries that this author seems to either have no problem with or positively supports. So much for her book and wisdom about racism.

Her book was not known until a Jew, Steven Spielberg shot a film based on it. As always, the Jews have supported the blacks in their fight for equality. They are getting paid back by betrayal... Desmond Tutu, a virulent supporter of Palestinian terrorists, acknowledged it ! When will the Jews understand and stop helping those who bite their hands?

It's ignorant people like Alice Walker that make teh Palestinians not want peace. Arabs will sacrifice their own children to prove their point. And people like Alice just fall for these tricks. A born fool will always be a fool.

I live in South Africa and here blacks see Israel only through their own unfocused glasses, hence the government is extremely anti-Israel. And, lets face it, also anti Jewish. Even though the blacks incl. Mandela had Jewish lawyers only. Well, to hell with those who are ignorant of our struggle to survive! To hell with those who support rockets being fired at us by people who treat their own women and gays like filth.

Someone should remind her that the bible she reads was once in HEBREW. Stupid is as stupid does.

Israel is guilty of apartheid. Israel is guilty of apartheid and persecution of the Palestinian people, both inside Israel and also in the Occupied Territories. BRAVO to you and all who speak the truth against Israel.

Surely, a book about racism is an important read in a society accused of racism. Now it will not be read by those m ost in a position to effectuate change. She is a short sighted thinker.

My first post was not allowed by the moderator.enough to say that this person is misinformed in Israel Arabs are allowed just about everywhere that includes mixing with anyone.Arabs can build mosques and worship just about anywhere.Arabs are well represented inthe universities and are not segregated.Arabs mix freely on public transport and mix freely .Arabs are in the armed forces are doctors shopkeepers or owners taxi drivers security guards guides etc.Wherever you go you find large groups of Arabs who are treated the same as everyone else.I have never seen an Arab abused on the stret or anywhere in this country.I am friendly with some Arabs and they call me family btw I am.a Zionist and they know it.Yes there are problems but doesnt every country on earth have some racism.Finally I cannot go to Saudi Arabia even of they allowed me to visit I could not worship openly and I could.
