I'm an American reading these stories with sorrow for the losses that both sides are suffering. What strikes me in reading comments are a number of hateful and viscous statements, from both sides, that discounts human life and sees the other side as something less than human. The other observation is how religion has poisoned any possibility of compromise or reason. Both sides feel that the hear the voice of God dictating to them to kill or oppress the other. The US supports Israel for many reasons and here to we see those who feel we must help 'God's chosen people' no matter what so we will be on his good side during the apocalypse. My dire prediction is that over time the hostile states surrounding Israel will update their military with weapons that didn't exist back during the previous wars and be able to strike with little or no warning causing devastating effects on this small country. Israel will have no choice but to retaliate with their nuclear force. And all because of a lack of ability to see shared interests and near delusional beliefs in the religious area. Israel needs to stop the provocative settlement expansion and negotiate a formal Palestinian state immediately with Jerusalem as a shared capital.
